BOOYAH!!! Just got a phone call from a NAPA sales representative.
YamahaLarry replied to YamahaLarry's topic in Watering Hole
I went to the webpage and looked at it and may get it. If nothing else, I can at least use it after i get thru the clear coat. I know I will have a lot of prepping and touchup to do before I can apply the candy coat (just hoping my darker gray on the '99 RSV will look ok with the candy). I have 1 crack in my front left lower ABS to repair, a small dime size dent in gas tank, a few other scratches and a crack in the bottom of my trunk. Plan is to get spray cans of OEM colors and test on scrap metal before actually shooting the bike parts. I will also have pinstriping on the new paint, but it will be paint an not vinly, and it too will be under the clear coat. -
Had a similar issue last year with someone claiming to be IRS and that we owed $2600 and if arrangements weren't made within 1-1/2 hours, an issue for my arrest would be filed and I would be arrested before the day was over. Shook my wife up. I knew I didn't owe. I didn't get arrested. And 2 days ago, I got a phone call from Washington state. I own timeshare. Guy introduced himself to be with some law firm that is representing timeshare owners concerning a class action lawsuit filed against somebody scamming timeshare owners. I told him that it sounds like he may be one of them. He said he isn't and I replied not interested and politely hung up. Amazes me that folks actually make a living doing this crap.

Mine are clearcoated over as well on ever piece. Have read some say that in areas, their's was not. I am thinking that I may have to carefully sand until I get down to the stripes, and them maybe, just maybe, I can remove them with my heat gun. I have found the factory touch up spray cans of paint online, and gonna order 1 of each of the 2 colors. My bike is a '99 as well.

Thanks puc. Even if the bike fails to sparkle, this old guy will be, just knowing that my bike is now dedicated to the greatest princess I have ever known. -
saw this and I thought i'd share ... funny ...

Yeah, I never did that either with any shipmates, back in the 70s on my Honda CB350, in California while in the USCG. -
It seems that NAPA is going to donate the paint, reducer, catalyst and clear coat for me to repaint my bike for childhood cancer patient support! The guy calls me and tells me who he is. Comes to find out, it was a guy that I took to an Auburn/Alabama Iron Bowl game as a guest in 2003, all on my dime, tailgating, tickets, etc. He was friends with my brother the mechanic, and still is, and a NAPA sales rep. My brother told him this morning about what I was doing for childhood cancer, and he has taken on the task of helping me out. Made my day for sure, and especially getting to get to tell yet another person my story concerning these children. I guess I need to begin driving on past Autozone, Advance and O'Reily's to get to NAPA to buy all my parts in the future.

When it rains it pours - and usually right on me

As mentioned by saddlebum, you may be able to cross reference that seal to another standard automotive seal. In a previous life, I worked in parts for both John Deere and Massey Furgeson, and did that daily with seals and bearings. If you can't get a direct cross reference, you can use most any seal that matches the ID, OD and thickness. Or, at least long enough to get you back home and get the OEM seal. Wish you lots of luck and keep us posted. -
I will be repainting my RSV as soon as I am done with a charity ride on 7/26 and must have it ready to roll on 8/22 for a charity ride that I am doing for a sweet little 6 year old princess that passed away last September due to childhood cancer. I became very close to her and her family during my support of them in my childhood cancer work. So close, that I was 1 of 4 pall bearers at her funeral. So, this paint job is VERY important to me, as I want the memorial for that precious girl to be special to her family. The color is Kelly Magenta Candy, the factory color for 2004 Goldwing. My primary question is coverage. To those of you that have repainted an entire RSV, will 1 quart of candy be enough? I will be using the existing colors of my bike as the base unless the darker gray is too dark, and will change that color to either pearl or gold. According to the US Paint's instructions, the candy is 2 b applied in 2 coats, with the first being 80% coverage and the 2nd being 100%. Being one that does a lot of charity work, I am pushing to try to get the paint supplied to me at no charge, or at least a big discount and stopped by a local paint shop this morning. The owner seems to think that 1 quart will be plenty. And my next question is concerning the factory pin striping. It feels as though it is a vinyl stripe under the clear coat and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to the best way to remove it? Sanding it off or will a heat gun work? To hopefully give you a feel good story to my efforts, here is a short video at the end of last year's ride for Emma. It was at the end of July and she passed away 6 weeks later. I had a special song with her. During her battles, when she was facing difficult times, I would always use the "When you wish upon a star" with the family, and would often look at the stars at think of her during my prayers for her. Emma was unable to be around people at the time of the ride, so they had her at the rear of the church so we could all ride by and wave to her and so she could see the bikes. At the end of the ride, I purposely let everyone come around me and I had the Disney When You Wish Upon a Star ready to play. Turned up the volume and started it playing as I eased down the side of the church. When I got to Emma, I just had to stop and get me one of those special Emma hugs and kisses. It was a very touching moment for me and her family. Here's the video. You may need to turn up your volume to hear us. She was a special little girl, whom I loved dearly and miss so very much.

Sounds like something I would do. Glad you found it.

I wave at most all I see, including scooters and trikes. If they choose not to wave back, that is their option. However, if I feel like they saw me wave in plenty of time to wave back, and they choose to not return the wave for whatever reason, I do often think to myself, "What an a jerk". Just being honest.

Been planning a repaint of the bike, total tear down, and flushing radiator is on the list to do when I take it out of operation for 2-3 weeks, along with new fork springs, rear shock, better front speakers and perhaps a cd changer.

I check mine while sitting on it. Just reach down with my cell phone and take a short video. Have 2nd gen and no center stand.

Sorry. Didn't realize this and in no way was I trying to take someone else's business, nor would I. Would much rather refer them to you. -

YamahaLarry replied to KIC's topic in Watering Hole
I do tee shirts, primarily for childhood cancer, but will do them for most anyone with the proceeds going to benefit patients and families of childhood cancer. What I do is vinyl mostly, but can also set up do do sublimation dye on dry fit shirts (the dye must be darker than the material). Most of the time I use the Gildan heavy cotton and depending on the design, my total cost to do a shirt is under $5 per shirt. I supply fund raiser items to childhood cancer patients at or below my cost, and items for family use is free. I use the proceeds from public sales to provide the free items, which include shirts, window decals and other items. Point is, I would be interested in providing these items to you guys on here. I sell most cotton tees in the $10 to $15 range. -
Quick question. Do either, or both, prevent gas flow to the carbs when the switch is turned off? I am considering replacing the factory one as sort of a preventive maintenance when I have it torn down for a repaint.

Installed one last year and to make it a little easier, I made a cut out in one side of the top hole to make it more of a hook than a hole for easier installation. Best I recall, it was 1/2 hr to 45 minute job for the entire process. This is the version that I have.

Candy, yes, but not apple red. 2004 Goldwing Kelly Magenta Candy. Had been looking for the right purple for some time and saw a trike in a BBQ restaurant parking lot and fell in love with the color. It (color purple) is in memory of a 6 year old girl that passed away last year with cancer. I got to get 'er done before the bike ride I put on for her in August. http://www.fotothing.com/photos/b8a/b8aab1ae35838c5463e3fc417d5bb762_35a.jpg

The RED BARON and MIDNIGHT - Bike delivered !
YamahaLarry replied to StarFan's topic in Watering Hole
2 beautiful bikes. Color me impressed!!! Love the seats and need to teach my wife how to make mine look like that. -
What speakers are you going with? I am wanting to upgrade mine when I split the faring to repaint the bike.
-
Yep, and if you ever 2nd guess as to whether it is safe to pull into an intersection, or pass a car, then don't do it. Never say yes to the 2nd guess.
-
Yep, have checked mine against my GPS and to run 70 I have to run with speedometer on 75-76. Since I know this, I don't worry about it.

I have started using QuicShine 99 on my bike after finding it in my garage a couple months ago. Works great, but like Pledge, it needs to be applied fairly often, maybe every couple weeks on the bike and weekly on the shield. It is a 1 step cleaner and polish. I like it a lot. QuicShine 99 - Can get it from Jegs for 8.99 a can.

You don't need to carry extra gas, just make sure that you have a filled tank when you take off into the mountains, and don't pass up very many opportunities to refill. Can't help you with the route from Mich to the Smokies, but once you get there you will find an almost endless supply of great roads to ride, south and east of the Gatlinburg area. Other than the obvious ones already mentioned, a must is to take Fighting Creek Gap Rd/Little River Gorge Rd up to Cades Cove. When riding the Dragon, the ride along the river (hwy 28) to Fontana Dam and Lake is nice detour. You can ride for days in those mountains.

Heart is with you and trust that you will come thru just fine, all patched up and back on 2 wheels in no time.
