Used those last night trying to get wiring harness out of the rear fender, after the previous owner had tied in 3 lights on the back. Was a mess and may end up getting a new harness, or find a way to neatly extend 4 of the wires. I am removing two of the LED light strips. Just always thought they looked tacky and surely don't want any tackiness with my new paint job.

And I've even made up a few to fit the cituation. Sounds like I may expand my vocabulary on inner front faring. Anyone with suggestions that would make it easier?

Well on my way to get all parts to the guy that is painting my 99 RSV in HOK voilette candy color for FREE, labor, paint, pinstriping, custom graphics and whatever supplies needed. I think I have the hardest part done. No way that splitting the front can be as time consuming as removing all the pieces from the tank back, taking photos, baggin and labeling as I go. Really wrestled with that back fender. Oh, and broke my CB antenna stud. But, had already purchased the 13" HD replacements, and Retired Navy Chief Joe pointed me in the right direction to get new cable and mounting stud. Will try to post a few progress pictures along the way. Paint should start going on in less than 2 weeks from now. Hopefully closer to a week. All in memory of the late precious Princess Emma Mitchell of Oxford, AL.

Mother Yamaha comes through

Same here, would love the number to call. I am tearing my bike down for a repaint and found my trunk to have multiple cracks around both back holes. -

I also got a carbtune and did my own. First time I did a RSV, or a 4 carb setup period. I had difficulties finding that first screw. Eyesight not what it once was. After I finally found it, had to jump in the truck and run to Autozone and get a longer screwdriver. That thing is tucked way back under there in the dark. Only had 1 carb out. 2nd screw I twisted on leveled it all out. -
2nd Gen Windshield Bad In The Rain
YamahaLarry replied to uechi kid's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Have ridden mine in several storms. Not sure which I dislike the most. When I don't have a coat of anything on it and the rain doesn't shed well, or when I do have a coating and the water sheds, comes over the top and down the backside. Also, have big problems with it fogging up. 2 weeks ago, returning from a bike ride, I had to lean over, look around the windshield driving in 2nd gear at about 20 mph or so. Was a little frightening. -
Not sure what gold ring, but I am going to tinker with it a little more when I get home this evening. If can't get it to work, I will perhaps follow Chief Joe's recomendation. It looks for a cleaner setup once some heat shrink is applied. The antenna's that I have are 13" long. http://www.antennax.com/p-4729-2-eurostyle-13-inch-antenna-masts-harley-davidson.aspx

From my CB radio days in the 70s, for some reason I was thinking that everything was trimmed in lengths of 118", ie. cable lenght + whip + coil (if any). Regardless, I intend on either purchasing or borrowing a SWR meter and try to get it at least close. Sometimes our bike rides get long enough that from the front to the back, depending on terrain, it is iffy on reception/transmission. My RSV has always performed well.

Where do I go from here??
YamahaLarry replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks! I had just figured it out while looking at the engine and came back to delete my post. But now that you've replied, I will let my ignorance remain exposed. -
From an old Coastie, thanks Chief!!! I had searched many options online last night, but was really unsure if the CB studs I was looking at would fit into the hole of the mounting tube on the bike. These antennas are supposedly tuned for CB radio (not sure of cable length required for proper wave length) and was unsure of the AM/FM reception. I did read someplace, that AM would be fine but it would effect the FM reception. CB radio is a necessity for me because I organize several rides a year and help escort on some others. FM radio, not a requirement. I can always listen to mp3.

Okay, I have got to show my ignorance and ask. What is the twinkie? -
Ok, on day one of my tear down of the '99 RSV for repaint, I have broken a part. I had purchased the 2 short black antennas and studs needed as linked by others on here to replace both antennas during reassembly. The radio antenna came off easily, no problems. But, when I got to the CB antenna, evidently, it does not assemble the same way. I placed a wrench on the 2 slots at the base of the actual antenna mast and a wrench on the nut under the tube mount, and was very difficult to turn. Was only able to turn it about 1/2 turn (yes, CCW) and it was very squeaky. So, I drenched with WD40 a few times, trying to be careful and not apply too much pressure. It was turning and loosening, but was extremely difficult. Well, I guess I applied too much pressure, and SNAP, the mast fell off. Finished disassembling and below are the results. I see no way in getting the HD 13" flexible antennas (along with the adapter studs as referenced by some on here) to go onto the CB antenna mounts. There does not appear to be any female threads anywhere for the stud. Looking down into the tube on the end of the cable, there is what seems to be a gold looking spring in the center, and there are no female threads in that tube. Also, the black nut/cover in the pic does not look like you can take it apart or removed the part sticking out of the top that has the screw that held the antenna. Looks like maybe it was made to fold down. Any suggestions or ideas are needed. I checked price for a new one, but that just means I would be going back with the 25' long antennas. Would really like to use these shorties. And, also, anyone else that has ordered these antennas, are yours different - radio vs CB? Both of my antennas they sent me are identical. I am no radio genius, but I am pretty sure that there is a difference in radio vs CB antennas. Here is what I have and desperately need help with:

Would love to be able to ride with some of you RS guys some day. Not may RSV's down here. I see one every once in a while. And, it was going pretty good til you got to that creature on the end of the row.

Some of you may recall me posting a few weeks ago that NAPA has agreed to supply all the paint and supplies required to repaint my bike in honor of a sweet little 6 year old princess that passed away last year with childhood cancer. I hate to turn NAPA down, but someone else came on the scene with even a more incredible offer. Sometimes you just get plain lucky, and for the first time in many many years, I just got plain lucky. Friday night, I was DANCING!!! Last Friday evening, I received a phone call from a paint sales representative in this area that wants to handle the entire process, prep work. painting and supplying all the paint/supplies all the way down to the pinstripes. He has his own paint booth and at his residence and does this as a side line in between selling paint supplies for folks like House of Kolor and 2 or the others. I could hardly believe it. Speechless I say. I have spoken to him once since and everything is a go. However, I told him that I had a few minor body repairs that I wanted to handle myself before taking all the parts to him (dime size dent in tank, cracked lower left front, small crack in bottom of trunk). I have already given him my color and we are discussing what base coats to use for the color effects I would like. The candy color I have chosen is below. This little girls favorite colors were pink and purple, so I selected a color in between (can't get the 2004 Honda Kelly Magenta Candy that I really wanted for free). There will be a memorial to Emma on the trunk lid and I have some special graphics I want to do concerning super heroes and childhood cancer. I will post some progress pics later and of course the final product. I have a charity bike ride Sunday and will begin tearing her down on Monday. Bike must be ready in time for the 2nd annual ride in honor of this little girl, and I will be unveiling the bike to show the family on the morning of the ride. Anyone close to Moody, AL (20 miles east of Bham) is invited (actually encouraged) to come out and ride with us on August 22nd in the "2nd Annual Princess Emma Bike Ride for Childhood Cancer". Kickstands up at 9:30 AM at Jack's in Moody and will take a 120+ mile scenic ride to Munford, AL (hometown of Princess Emma Mitchell). House of Kolor, Kandy Koncentrate, KK17 - Violette

So, are you saying not to put blue locktite on them?

Was it Q-Bond? My brother the mechanic introduced me to this amazing stuff to repair a gas tank on a car that I accidentally cut into with my cut-off die grinder. This stuff is strong and will stick to almost anything. Link below. Q-Bond

I haven't pulled it yet, so not sure how it all is put together, but first thoughts are as others mentioned. Drill hole at the end of the crack and repairing everything with an ABS glue. Depending on what I find, I intend on reinforcing the holes in some manner. Maybe sandwich some homemade ABS plastic washers on each side to make it thicker at the bolt holes. Will have to make a call after I get the bike torn apart. I also have a small crack in the left front lower that will need repairs. Will cut a v-groove length of crack and fill it with ABS glue.

AMEN! And another thing I always tell people, is if you ever 2nd guess a decision when riding your bike, don't do it.

Mine is cracking as well. I will be tearing the bike down for new paint job in a few weeks and hopefully can do a permanent repair on the trunk.

I checked the ones close to me, Autozone and O'Reily, and not on either website. Found it on Amazon for $10+ and on eBay. EBay seems to be the way to go. So, guess I will order me a couple of them. ML16817 on EBay -
Frog Toggs, anyone go t'em? anything better?
YamahaLarry replied to Great White's topic in Watering Hole
Wet crotch was my experience as well, but that was several years ago. Some have told me that they don't have the same problem. I love how light they are and cooler than most other rain gear and willing to give them another try. -

I used them back when I was a tournament bass fisherman, and they were great for that purpose. Tried to use them a few years ago for riding, and for most cases, worked fine. But in a down pour, the water that would run down the front, onto the seat would leak in thru the seam and get me really wet down there. Maybe they have improved in the past 5 or 6 years. I have considered giving them another try. -
True dat. I have no idea how fast you would be going if you hit the limiters in 4th gear. I have had mine 80+ in 4th a few times, and not hitting the limit. As with you, generally in 4th unless I will be cruising over 65 or so, and no hills. Many bike rides that I ride in here in Alabama on the curvy, hilly roads, I am in 3rd for most of the ride. I do travel interstate every day going to/from work, and run in 5th then, and she will set up on 80 to 85 mph, purring like a kitten.

BOOYAH!!! Just got a phone call from a NAPA sales representative.

Since the guy at my local body shop is off the hook of supplying any paint, he may offer some free labor. Will swing by and ask how to get stripes off without damaging the paint.
