  1. There is one for sale locally for $2K with fewer miles.
  2. Makes you wonder what future water cooling for all bikes to meet emissions controls will do to the Harleys. The Gen2 Venture probably would have sold much better if it had fuel injection and a few more updates, maybe even a newer stereo. But, Yamaha refused to spend any design money on it and let it die. The Goldwing got FI in 2001! 2013 and the Venture still has carbs! Emission controls was what got rid of air cooled autos. A newly designed touring motorcycle with an air cooled engine was extremely short sighted IMHO. I still have a hard time believing it.
  3. Hey Yammer, I got my first gun at age 10 also, a 20 gauge Iver Johnson single barrel. Back then shotguns were referred to as single barrel or double barrel. We ate lots of squirrels too.
  4. Yeah, many of us are "older" and we think hard before we spend that kind of money on a bike or anything else. I'm retired and even though I can afford a new truck or car, I keep my 15 yr old truck and my 12 yr old car. Same with the bike. I just can't rationalize spending that much money on a new bike. I'm not that emotional about it. I would like to ride a BMW R1200RT and a BMW 1600GTL. I might get emotional about them. I was impressed by the 2006 Wing I test rode a few years ago. The BMW R bike flat twin and the 90 degree v-twin such as in the V-strom are the only twins I could see myself buying because they are made to rev and make hp. The straight six is the best dynamically balanced of all engine designs.
  5. The dealer diagnosis sounds as plausible as anything to me. But, I'm just wagging.
  6. Surely would be nice to see a photo of that gorgeous bike!
  7. Could have kept blowing and the PO removed it.
  8. He who makes no mistakes makes nothing.
  9. Keep a level head. I know you'd like to go in Rambo style and finish the problem but we can't do that.
  10. Well, at least they aren't double baggers!
  11. The NC law protects the homeowner from druggies who break in trying to find something they can sell to buy more drugs. Your home is your castle and you should be allowed to defend it as such. My wife and I have cc permits. I got mine when I worked in crime ridden Homestead, FL. I have no sympathy for anyone who breaks into another person's home. None.
  12. Most of us aren't really in the market for a new $25k motorcycle. BUT, if the new Venture had a 1700cc V4, I might get in the market. An air cooled V-twin makes that a 0% possibility. My wife has encouraged me to sell my two old bikes and get a newer more reliable bike, so the spouse has given me permission. Buying a new bike or a new car/truck is an emotional decision, not a necessity. Yamaha makes business decisions based on their best information and I make personal decisions when it comes to buying vehicles. No meeting of the minds this time.
  13. I only have a Lowrance depth finder/fish finder on my little 18 footer Boston Whaler. And I do use my iphone google maps sometimes to find my way back to a particular spot. We used a different ramp to launch the boat last year and if it wasn't for google maps we would have had a hard time finding the ramp again the way it was located off the ICW.
  14. In NC now, anybody who breaks into your house can be terminated whether there is a perceived bodily harm risk or not. The way it was explained in the cc class that my wife took, if you come home and someone is sitting and watching tv, you have the legal right to terminate him.
  15. FlyingFool, were you taking Cipro? One of the side efffects is possible tendon rupture. Just thought I would mention it.
  16. What a trajedy! I too hope it is ruled self defense and the best resolution possible.
  17. Back in my day, in high school, I worked in a grocery store 13 hours on Saturday for $7. (age 15 to 18) Back in my day, I could buy beer when I was 18 yrs of age.
  18. Oh Man! I'm really sorry! Good Luck with the surgery and heal quickly!
  19. When I owned an 83 750 Yamaha Virago, I decided that I didn't like vibrating underpowered V-twins. Make mine a smooth, powerful, high revving 4 or 6. I too like that rush of power when it is winding out. I was an avid hot rodder back in my day and still have the need for speed!
  20. I took a boxing PE course in college. It gave me new appreciation for the conditioning of those professional boxers. We boxed two one minute rounds and we were exhausted because we went all out. I could not imagine going 12 3 minute rounds!
  21. $300 is just over 1% of the cost of the bike, pocket change for those who can afford to buy a new Stratoliner bagger.

    Eclipse

It just happened here. Supposed to have been 96% eclipse. The sunshine wasn't quite as bright as normal but not that much difference. Seemed just a little eerie.
  23. I would like it better if they had installed a temperature controlled fan on the oil cooler. That would give it some hope of not overheating the oil when stuck in traffic on a hot day.
  24. When I bought my 89 after trailering it home, the ignition switch wouldn't turn. I sprayed WD40 into the keyhole and it worked fine since then. WD40 displaces water but some don't like it because they say it builds up a gummy deposit.
