From watching the promotional films, I got the impression that they rode air cooled Vtwin Yamahas, Road Stars or something like that. That is what the films showed anyway.
-
I suppose sturgis is where they got all their advice on what to offer with a new "Venture".

Going on past memory, you need about a 12 to 1 A/F ratio for full throttle operation and that appears to be what you have or richer in the upper ranges. Those diaphragms should have the metering rods completely pulled out on full throttle runs. As I remember, you need almost 18 to 1 A/F ratio for best part throttle fuel economy. Engines with O2 sensors and computer controls control the A/F ratio at 14.7 to 1 because that is the ratio where the O2 sensors start detecting O2. And that is a good ratio for low CO and low NO. NO goes up with lean ratios.

I've put a whole bottle of Gumout for high mileage engines in one 3 1/2 gallon tank and run it through my Kawasaki and it didn't hurt the carbs. It didn't completely clean them either so I did have to clean the jets and emulsion tubes mechanically. I had let it sit for over a year without draining the carbs.

My favorite gas additive fuel injector cleaner which I also use in my bikes is Gumout for high mileage engines with PEA. I've used enough of it to be convinced it does not harm bike carbs. I just saw this test report on a F150 site. https://www.f150online.com/forums/other-powertrain/515021-win-gumout-prize-package.html

four brush starter
BlueSky replied to Shadetree's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
First Gens 91, 92, and 93 have 4 brush starters from what I've read. And all of the RSTDs and 2nd Gens have 4 brush starters. -
I would buy the Fury brand half helmet that Walmart sells but it only comes in black and I would prefer a lighter color. They are inexpensive. Ideally, I want a wine color to match my Kawa and it's close to matching my Yama. Wearing a half helmet is almost like not wearing a helmet.

So happy you survived with no injurys! I hope you have some help from the insurance co. on the repairs. I ran over a retread with my Dodge Magnum and it cracked the rubber nose. Ended up costing me over $600 to repair the damage. I was lucky I suppose no radiator hoses or radiator was damaged. The Magnum does have a belly pan that may have helped.

Maybe I should rethink this Dragonslayer thing

Well, he did have the chance when Jon left to join the Night Watch but didn't for some reason. -
2018 Star Venture

Yep, it has the rake and trail of a cruiser more so than a touring bike. -
The Scorpion EXO C110 Open Face Helmet is the one I ordered and sent back. I measured my head like they instruct and ordered a Large. I could get it on my head but it was tight, too tight. So I sent it back for that reason and because it was very thick and made my head look like a giant mushroom. BikeBandit at first refused to accept it saying it didn't have some sort of sticker. I told them to look in the box because everything was put back in the box instead of trying to stick it back to where it came off. They finally accepted it and I decided that they would be my last choice for anything in the future.
-
If you order them, check out the vendors return policy if they don't fit or you don't like them. For instance, BikeBandit won't pay for return shipping and DennisKirk will. I returned a helmet bought from BikeBandit that didn't fit and it cost over $30 to ship it back. I learn everything the hard way!

Maybe I should rethink this Dragonslayer thing
BlueSky replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
I enjoyed this weeks episode so much, I just watched it again. When I first started watching it, I would get upset when they killed off a favorite character but now it's just part of the show. The title says it all, "Game of Thrones". So many people fighting to get on the throne. Kind of like Washington DC except there isn't as much killing involved. -

Excellent episode Game of Thrones last night. I watched it this morning because we also watch Ray Donovan on Showtime and the first episode of the season was last night. -
2018 Star Venture
BlueSky replied to Rafterd's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I think it may be related to the fact that the average cost of living adjusted salary for non-college graduates hasn't increased in over 20 years and many of the potential customers just can't afford an expensive toy like a new Harley. -
2018 Star Venture

You missed "lighter" which is very important. The new BMW K1600 GTL weighs 767.2 pounds wet, about 200 lbs less than the new Venture. It is smoother, lighter, and much more powerful. Appearance is subjective to each individual but I think the Gen II with a newly designed frame mounted fairing with redesigned round gauges instead of the 57 Ford speedometer would be better looking. -

I just read an article about how the sales of large motorcycles are plummeting and Harley sales are plummeting the most. So, Yamaha decides to compete with Harley. Some things are hard to understand. I think a Gen II with the V4, made lighter, lower center of gravity, and a frame mounted fairing would have made more sense. But, it is what it is. We shall see if it is a success. I hope so. -
Some time after we bought a boat, my wife bought a Black & Decker Jump Starter, one of those things that has a built in air compressor with a claim of 500 amps on the side. I put it in the garage and didn't use it for years. This year I took it out of the box and it was dead and wouldn't charge. I took it apart and the battery inside was a 19 amp/hour motorcycle battery. I just took it to Sams Club and they accepted it as a core on a real marine battery that I will make sure it is kept fully charged. We kept the boat in the back yard with the battery disconnected and I charged it before going boating every time we used it. This year we put it in a wet slip and I have to leave the battery connected to power the bilge pump. The float switch stuck and ran the bilge pump until the battery was dead. It wouldn't take a charge, so I replaced it and now have a second real marine battery for a backup. I never signed up for Seatow and if we get stranded, they will charge an arm to get a tow back to the marina. So, I try to minimize that possibility. So, my recommendation is to buy a real battery for backup and forget about those "Jump Starters" unless it's one of those small ones for a motorcycle.
