The adventure begins! Shortly after I bought a 24' Layton TT that I towed with a SWB F150 without traction lock, I returned home right after a rain. I had a one acre yard so I circled the back yard in order to park it. There was a slight grade and with my worn down tires on the rear, it started spinning and wouldn't move. The tires didn't even dig into the grass. I just left it there until the yard dried out.

Wow! That's awesome what you are doing for your brother-in-law! :clap2:

Truth be told. Men would be happy with that attitude no matter what size she was! Now, the wife might be more inclined if we were slimmer.......

Some owners of the 6.0 diesel reprogram it for higher boost and I've read that this is what causes the head gaskets to fail and causes the need for different head bolts. The egr causes overheating when it gets under load. I would be skeered of buying one.

I usually hear that from the opposite side. Why would a woman get married and spend all of her time making one guy miserable when she could stay single and make so many guys happy!

When I was working temporary contract jobs around the country, I started thinking about getting a 5th wheel camper to live in. I looked at one that I really liked. It was a used Grand Teton or something like that, really nice. I was thinking that I would enjoy living in it. Then I found out that the GVW was over 28k lbs. It would have taken a really big truck to tow it.

When I got a job after graduating, I rode that same CB750 up the ramp into a uhaul truck. It wasn't that bad because I put the ramp end on the porch so the grade wasn't too bad. When I got to my new apt. I unloaded it by backing it down the ramp. I had to keep both feet on the ramp balancing the bike so I could only use the front brake. The front wheel wouldn't hold the bike so I backed down the ramp with the front tire sliding all the way down the ramp. I was fortunate that the bike came down slow enough that I was somewhat able to control it enough to keep it on the ramp without falling off. Whew!

Can't have fun like that everyday! Reminds me of when I rode my 73 Honda CB750 up a board that I placed on the steps leading to the porch between my apartment and the next apt at NC State Univ married student housing. I was parking my bike on the porch out of the weather. I didn't build up enough speed to make it up the board and gave it some more throttle while on the board. The bike spun sideways and I fell into the bushes beside the steps with the bike falling on top of me!!!! Luckily neither I nor the bike was injured!

When I bought my Kawasaki ZN700 in 2009, it only had 1,054 miles on it. Number 2 cylinder was dead. I verified spark by grounding the wires to the block. Turned out the original 24 year old plug was completely dead. That is the only time I've ever had a completely dead plug, NGK of course.

When I lived in Raleigh and my kids were small, I bought a used 24' Layton TT bumper pull. I towed it to Myrtle Beach quite a few times. One time I towed it to Orlando for a Disney World vacation. I loved having it and I love the campground atmosphere, but when the kids got older and didn't want to go camping with the old man, I sold it. I was divorced during that time.

83 venture vs royal
BlueSky replied to Matt_P's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
In most cases, couldn't you just clean and repack the existing bearings? Doesn't seem to me they would get much wear. -
Don't know about that. Looking can get you all fired up to buy something you don't need. I used to have a really bad habit of looking at cars. One year I owned 6 different cars. They were all used and it didn't cost me much if anything to buy and sell them. I never traded with a dealer. My wife is still working so a MH wouldn't get utilized that much right now unless I toured the country without her!..... Since she is 17 years younger, I will probably be too old when she does retire! So I just need to go through my Venture and start riding to all the meets!

At the retiree luncheon Tuesday, I talked with a old co-worker who is handling the estate of another co-worker. He's selling a 2002 37' Newmar Class A motorhome that is on a Freightliner chassis and with a Cummins diesel pusher. 45k miles. Asking payoff of $27,500. Tempting to at least go look at it.

I'm still wondering what else you received that day besides coconuts!!!?? Sounds like that woman was really turned on!

Congratulations! Working on the Plan!

Yesterday I went to the retiree luncheon for people who worked for nuke plant where I used to work. Talked to a retiree who tours a lot on his Wide Glide, whatever that is. He said he takes it easy on it and doesn't exceed 60 or 65 mph even when touring out west. And, he had over 180k miles on his bike with no engine rebuilds. Never heard of a Harly lasting that long.

In 64, the 327 engine was rated 250hp. It had smaller valve heads.
-
Yep, it was available in the Chevelle and the Corvette too I believe. In 66 it wasn't available in the Chevelle and the 300hp engine was downrated to 275hp (lie). In 67 it was available again as a 325hp engine in the Chevelle, 350hp in the Corvette. I personally saw two of those 67 325hp chevelles set up for drag racing in the "stock" classes turn 110mph in a quarter mile at the Kinston NC dragstrip. They were running low gears, maximum width 7" wide slicks and headers which were allowed in "stock" classes. I'm sure the engines had been gone through and probably were not stock. They beat all of the 396 Chevelles that day.

I lived and breathed Chevys back then and I never heard of a 350hp 327 in a 64 Impala. They were still offering the old truck blocks that year, the 409cu in. Are you sure it wasn't the 340hp 409 cu in engine? In fact a high school friend's dad bought him a new 65 Impala with the old style 425hp 409(427)?. They switched to the new angle head 427 block in the same year 1965. Anybody remember the Nascar 427 mystery engine? Junior Johnson was unbeatable in his 63 chevy with that engine if it didn't blow up. It was the new engine design that had the angled valve heads with the straight valve covers. the old style engine has valve covers that were not straight on the bottom side. We were so curious about his engine that we climbed up on the back of one of his flat bed trucks at Darlington and pulled the tarp off one his engines and looked at it. If his crew had caught us??????:Avatars_Gee_George:

My 65 Chevelle that I ordered came with the 12 bolt 3.31 rear. It also had the Muncie aluminum case 4 speed transmission. The next year, Chevy started putting in saginaw cast iron case 4 speeds

AT&T recently bought DirectTV and now they are trying to buy Time Warner unless our corrupt Congress denies them of their desired monopoly. I hope they are denied.

I went to Sturgis this past August driving my truck on the way back from Wyoming and I found parking just a few blocks from the middle of Sturgis every time. Wasn't bad at all.
-
That brings back memories. I ordered a new 65 Chevelle like I wanted as far as I could afford. It had the 300hp 327 cu in engine, 4 speed trans, posi-traction rear and the factory tachometer. When you got the tach, the clock was mounted on top of the dash. Sticker was $3098. I always kicked myself for not ordering the 350hp 327 engine. It was about $60 more. I did later install the 350hp cam in my engine. I put 100k pleasure packed miles on that car, many drag races, some even on the drag strip with the exhaust caps removed. Sold it when the Army shipped my butt to S. Korea. Part of my misspent youth!!

I'd love to go also, but I don't want to deal with all the crowds. I also read that the hotel rates are horrendous for the time around the event.
