  1. When my red fuel line caused problems, it was a direct starvation issue. I gather what was happening was at high speed or under acceleration, the carbs would run out of fuel due to the line collapsing... Hence the scoot would bog down immediately. By the way you described your problem, my first thought was spark. It's easy to understand an engine bogging down at a certain rpm/load every time when you think electrical. But replacing the tci should have cured that. Stator not putting out enough volts? Don't think that would be an rpm issue unless something in the stator case is shorting out due to centrifugal force or high heat. But can't say I've ever heard of that on a non- points system. This is interesting... For sure. Hang in there... You'll get it!
  2. You've done a good job of searching for a cause of your problem. I have to go with fuel filter, fuel pump or fuel line breaking down. There just isn't much left. TCI can't be the problem as you've installed two of them. Plugs and wires would cause missing but not complete high speed failure. Especially with four spark plugs to work with. So I'm thinking fuel. Trace out the fuel lines .You might as well replace them. @MarcarlNew filter and pump. Just read your last post. That red fuel line must be replaced. It has and will cause issues. It did on my 89. It was collapsing inside. I forgot about that! It may/may not solve your problem, but it was for me.
  3. I like the Grasshopper! Works well for me on the RSV.
  4. @Rick Butler...my friend. Are you out there? As far as the seat getting wet. Yep. I used cat pan liners to cover them. Worked great. Xtra large size, If memory serves.
  5. Don't know about Rick, but a message to him through this forum would be appropriate. He did my VStar seat and did a great job! As far as seats, the normal pillow seat would be the best bet for you. All the others, push you forward...includes Mustang, Corbin, etc.. It's also quite comfortable. I'm 225 and 5'10" and can go all day on it. Your pegs could use some extensions....as you can see on my RSV, I have mine adjusted rearward. By just moving the mount 180 degrees I could gain about 4 more inches. Hope this helps....
  6. Confirming the fuel lines are 5/16id for the RSV? Also, is that the same size for the carb drain? TIA, david
  7. No I don't. But looking at the knob.... Any old time tape deck or audio board for electronics have those same knobs. Look like the same size innards! I would go cruising pawn shops, etc..
  8. Well...I just can't see myself doing it. To many idiots out there and getting worse every year! To the air cooled idea....yes I get that. In 1969, I was riding outside of Parsippany, NJ, when traffic stopped due to construction. It was a hot June summer day. I was riding my Yamaha YDS6C. Air cooled 250 street scrambler. Daytona racer derivative for the street. I shut the motor off and sat in traffic. Finally decided to go to a gas station, take off riding gear and get a coke. I pushed the bike on the shoulder to the station, about 150 feet. Parked her and took off helmet and jacket.. Cop pulls up and gives me a ticket for driving on the right side shoulder. Really??? Thankfully a lady friend's mom was a judge there. One phone call and mom was laughing. She told me don't worry about it and wished me a safe journey. I was heading to Mississippi from New Hampshire to help a buddy build a house for his wife's parents. Motor off. Aluminum engine. Pushing bike. Ticket. Ok.... D
  9. Congrats, Paul! I haven't been riding much lately...and now the heat wave hitting us. BUT, do have the Fall and Winter booked for RV camping! Whee! We start the end of July up in the mountains, boondocking at Dairy Springs Campground with our sailing friends....
  10. @cowpuc put a drain tube on the carb bowl drain, opened the screw, drained the carbs, then shot some carb cleaner up intro the bowl through the tube. Filled the bowl with carb cleaner. I believed this was/is his method for cleaning up junk in carbs that have been sitting... He should chime in at some point! D
  11. Did you ever figure out the CB issue?
  12. I have the Scorpion as well. Nice helmet. But yes, Do wear ear plugs. Etymotic Research ear buds. Isolation and music. Thank you!
  13. As usual... Well done. BUT... Inquiring minds want to know what is the quietist modular you've come across? D
  14. I too went with a wire. BUT, I added a "Y" connector under the front fairing that splits the Aux input into 2 sources. I then added XM radio and Garmin gps. The gps had an sd card slot. I loaded that with a couple of thousand oldies from my collection. So now I have radio, tape deck, XM and the gps all available to listen to.
  15. The main fuel line was replaced before I bought the scoot... as the P.O. moved the fuel filter to under tank. But... Cheap and easy to check again! That said...I now wonder if all the line was replaced?
  16. Final update: Finally got back up to Phoenix where the RSV is. Went over this morning, and put the ignition switch back in. She fired right up! So the problem was the two contacts in the main switch that tell the igniter to work. The solder joints had broken internally. A quick jolt of a hot soldering gun took care of problem. I'm still getting overflow out of one carb on left side. Only at idle and only when first run....after I turn off choke and she idles for a few minutes. Will start to stumble then overflow will appear on ground. Once she warms up, the problem doesn't happen. Can ride all day without an issue. Guess it's time to go back through carbs. They sure looked clean when I went through them a few months ago. I should probably check tank for corrosion and fuel lines for issues...although I did that a few months ago. The gas was clean in the jar. Always something!!!
  17. My 89 runs Shinkos just fine. The Tourmaster 230s. My RSV has a 777 in front and a 230 in rear. My 777HD in the rear got a nail so all we could find to replace at @cowpuc's home town was the 230. Still running fine after 3 years. BTW, I learned a great deal from Puc about changing tires! He's good!
  18. Congrats! That's so nice to hear.....now just keep it up (so to speak). Keep that lady Smiling and Happy! Ride more! LOL!
  19. I use to do that all the time with my bicycle wheel spokes! Forgot all about that trick! Thanks @cowpuc!! There were times after a rough ride in the woods, I could play a tune on those spokes. Poor things! LOL!
  20. Thanks, Ron. Hopefully I won't need it. UPDATE: Again, the switch fought me every which way. Took an electric jack hammer(kidding) and a drill to get the other 2 screws out, to get to the switch assembly. Finally got it apart. The contact were clean. On both sides! Contact were nice and shiny. Not bad for 16 years. Meter time. Wait a minute... No continuity between 2 contacts and their wire ends! Brought out the large soldering gun. Zapped them both. Continuity! Put switch back together. There now is continuity between the 2 little wires that I didn't have before. The blue/yellow and the blue/black now are bridged electrically when key is on. (Thanks, Ben for wire education. Interesting how much I've forgotten!) SO...my educated guess is...the switch will now work. Unfortunately, I won't be back in Phoenix for a couple of weeks to see if that's the cure. Thank you to everyone with ideas. The forum works...again!! (and of course, I forgot to take pictures)
  21. Good article, Neil! Guess I need to add that gadget to my Christmas list for this year. I can see lots of uses for it.... Thanks!
