Do you feel like you waste your breathe.

First I will start out by saying I am to the point I just want to scream. For months now I have been taking my Daughter to the Doctors for my health. I tell the Doc what she is doing and continue with getting same medications. Now I am I highly against giving children Medications, My daughter is autistic tho so she does need something to stabilize her moods. I have told her time and time again that its like she has a three way switch that has shorted out. She is happy one second, then in total anger the next, or sad. It is litterallly like you are flipping a switch. Today I took her to the Dr. for yet another headache accompanied by a fever and vomiting. This is the 5th time in total she has been complaining about headaches, the times I know she is having them she will go in her room turn the light off and don't want to be bothered. A little family history here, Me, My Mom, Grandpa, and Uncle all suffer from Migraines. All of her symptoms kind of mimic this. But it just feels I am wasting my breathe on the whole situation. For years I complained of these headaches I had and to no ovail I could not get help with them, I would lose jobs because I could not go to work because when I would have them I would experience double and blurred vision. I finally was diagnosed with migraines 10 yrs ago, I know doctors don't want to order nothing they don't see fit. When you tell them over and over what your hearing and observing how do they get a diagnosis of Stomach Virus? I am sure there are many others out there that have been thru this one. On a side note my 18 yr old was diagnosed with osteoporosis when he came down to stay with me for moral support. He moved back home, and the Dr.s up there told him he doesn't have it!!! I asked if they did test and he said nope. They keep telling me I got weak muscles or torn muscles in my back. So I guess 2 Drs. and 1 specialist don't know what they are talking about down here, one of the Drs here ran test on me and told me I had degenerative disk disease, While I was up visiting my older son a few years ago I threw my back out and the Drs up there told me I had strained my back and there was no evidence of me having the degenerative disk disease. So anyhow end of my rant for the day. Write in the comments below if you have ever felt like you have been talking to the wall at the Drs office. Sorry had to on that gave myself a chuckle.

YES!!! I actually had a doctor tell me "when you decide you are willing to work for a living, your pain will go away"!!!! Well second opinion and an elctromilagram later. I was braced and doped for almost three weeks while they moved a vertebrae back into place. Guess what I worked fro my bed. 12 years of school and internship don't necessarily make you smart

Sometimes if it does not fit their specialty they really do not want anything to do with you. When I had my ankle problem last year I had to get a referral from my regular Dr, he sent me to an orthopedic surgeon. He took and xray as said that i have a mild sprain and gave me a cordizone shot in the ankle. well a month went by and I still could not walk on it well and got my regular doc to refer me to a podiatrist. She took one look at it and wiggled it around and said there is something really not right in there, she did an MRI and it was obvious that two of the 3 ligaments that hold the foot bone to the leg bone were torn. Doc was amazed that I could walk on it at all. She did surgery to put it all back together and I now have a functional foot again.

Bottom line is the ortho guy fixed bones, because it was not a bone problem, he really was not interested.

You hear all the time of people that have to go to many Drs before they find the one that specializes in what your real problem is. the rest just try to fit your symptoms into their specialty and if they can not make you fit they are not interested in your problems, but will still try something to get the paycheck.

OK my rant off too now.............

snyper316 ... have you considered medical marijuana?

Nothing to do with that but ... most of my life, even while growing up, I've always had difficulty breathing through my nose. Years ago (around 1974) I went to a Dr. and had a bunch of tests done including xRays of my sinus. He said there was nothing wrong and I was just congested due to a cold. Yasureright I thought. Again in around 1978 I went to a different Dr. ... more tests ... same response from Dr., same thought from me. It was about then a product called Otrivin came available ... remember the commercial .... "ohh dri bid" ... "oh dri vin" ... "otrivin". so I tried it ... worked wonders and then I could keep my mouth shut and breathe thru my nose.

I've been using the stuff regularly ever since. Yes, some say (including Drs) that it does more harm than good, that one becomes addicted to it, that over time it takes more and more to attain the same result. For some, maybe... not for me.

I've tried other, similar products including stupid inhalers prescribed by Drs ... either they didn't work or they worked too well and I wound up with severe nose bleeds.

I don't use the stuff any more frequently today than I did at any time during all those years and in fact, probably use it less often (3-4 times in a 24 hr day). It still works. Crazy now though ... they've come up with all kinds of variations of it but the old, original formula does the job.

I hesitate to go again to a Doctor simply because the times in the past were .... a big fat waste of time.

@SilvrT I advocate for the medical side of it. I won't touch till it is legal, however my first doc for my migraines. He diagnosed me with post traumatic headaches. He was also working research in Columbia MO told me to try some to help with my headaches. At the time I couldn't smoke because I had D.O.T drug test. 5 yrs later I tried it man was that a beautiful 2 yrs. Responsibilities arose so I do once in a blue moon if my headaches get too bad. As far as that stuff goes I believe drug corps are gonna fight at every turn to keep it from becoming legal. There is so much this stuff would help with, it would bankrupt pharmaceutical companies.

We are on the verge of it being legal here in Canada. Even though it isn't, some localities "approve" of it (medical version that is) and here in Vancouver we have several "authorized" dispensaries as well as medical grow-ops in the area. Almost anyone with some kind of symptoms can get their Dr to "prescribe" it and from that a person gets a card that allows them to purchase and consume it. Of course, the strains are cultured for medical purposes as opposed to "getting high". Certain chemicals in the plants that cause a person to get high are eliminated whereas other chemicals that help suppress various symptoms are enhanced (based on my somewhat limited but un-tested knowledge LOL)

As I understand it, several US states have also legalized it.

Some states in the US have legalized it for medical and also some for pure recreational use. Ohio has legalized it for medical but you can't buy the kind that you smoke. Only oils and etc. with no THC to make you high.

BUT....at this time...courts have ruled that companies still have the right to their own no-drug policies so even if it is legal, it can cost you your job if it is against your companies policies.

The company that I work for has strict no drug policies. We are subject to random drug tests. Also, if you have any type of accident in a company vehicle, you are required to get a drug test immediately, regardless of fault. I was hit by a semi in my company car a year or so ago. I was not hurt but had to immediately go get a drug test. Had I tested positive, I would have lost my job.

This hole thread was mainly about my daughter, which I have fought for years to figure out what was going on with her, but still feel like noone is listening to me. She is 8 I just want her to be happy and healthy. I do not believe in drugging kids at all, I just want her more stable then what she is. Common sense would tell me if something isn't working you try something else.

I have very little faith in this medical profession. Doctors used to be looked up to, and respected in the old days...not any more. All they have turned into is commisioned salesmen for the drug companies. If I broke a bone or two...yes, I would very quickly run to the hospital and get it looked at and fixed. But when it comes to taking drugs prescribed by them,or vaccinations, they can shove them up their you know what. Am 72 and I don't take ANY pills! When my time comes...and it will....even for the ones that visit doctors every week... I will gladly accept it and go. There is no getting away from that fact. And don't ever believe pills are making people live longer, as they will try and make u believe. For all I know, they are shortening your lives. Certain kinds of surgeries might give you a bit of extra time on earth, but is it worth it? Does quality of life matter, or as long as one is breathing, its all good??:confused24:

My dad lived to be 99. The villages he spent most of his life, didn't have a single doctor, of pharmacy. His mother lived to be a 100. I give credit to the fresh and healthy food available in those days. If our governments cared about the general population, they would make sure we eat healthy foods, inhale fresh air, and drink clean water. Not rely on useless expensive drugs they shove down our throats....that make us more sick, so they can sell us some more.:bang head:

I chuckle when people say," LISTEN TO THE DOCTOR AND FOLLOW HIS/HER ORDERS" :confused07:

@Freebird It don't have to be a company car, you get hurt or say hit a big yellow pole:Avatars_Gee_George: with a fork truck. I ended up taking a drug test on that one. I passed of course that counts as one of my responsibilities. They did end up firing me but not for drugs, but for hitting the big yellow pole. I wasn't the only one who hit them but I did break an empty pallet and knocked dirt off the bottom of the forklift. My problem was I was honest, told the boss. I just didn't see it around the mast thought I had it cleared and turned to soon. Then another time I listened to an idiot boss who told me the forklift could handle two pallets at a time. I tried to tell him it wouldn't lift that high because the height he wanted me to put them up would void the counter balance. Needless to say the forklift tipped forward on me so I dumped the load. Milnot Milk stinks when it goes splat by 1,000's of cans.:bang head:

I would search out for a homeopathic/natural Dr and see what they can offer to your daughter. Much of what they do is very cheap and non prescription and the Medical Dr are not interested if there isn't profit involved. It is called practicing medicine, because it is not an exact science. Best of luck with your daughter.

I was raised on Homeopathy. Like cures like. I also had my first classic migraine around 10 or so. The first one knocked me on my butt, and I suffered with them for the next 10 years or so. Massive headaches and super sensitive to bright lights for a few days. Then in my early 20's they disappeared and I didn't have another until my mid 40's, and occasionally thereafter every couple of years or so. What I did is start to fight them. When getting the prisms I would tough it out and just keep going. The prisms would disappear fairly quickly and the headaches wern't nearly as bad.. They also became less frequent. One thing I did notice is just prior to having an episode I was mentally sharp as a tack. Quick thinking and all. Brilliant!! After the attack.... pretty slow and mentally confused for a few days until I settled down to my normal average baud rate... My 2¢

Gregory

Best of luck with your daughter. Keep searching until you find a medical professional whose diagnosis and treatment makes sense to you. And check what is written in her records.

My Two Cents.

First penny. Doctors generally try their best. But they actually don't know everything. With every product reminding us to 'talk it over with our doctor before use' we often expect them to be expert on every subject. But in the end they are just people like everybody else. It is my firm belief we are each largely responsible for our own treatment and our doctors are trained advisors.

Second penny. Doctors read copy and repeat medical charts. Some where, some time some doctor wrote I had an appendectomy and gall bladder surgery along with some other medical procedures. I have no idea where that came from but these things now keep showing up everywhere. So check and correct your chart from time to time. You might be surprised at what it says and how often it is repeated. And wrong information could be hazardous. Suppose I developed a sharp pain in my side with doctors thinking my appendix had already been removed. How would that affect their diagnosis?

"Put the lime in the coconut" and then you'll feel better. Keep looking for your daughter. She souldn't have to live with her syptoms the rest of her life. I have a grandson who takes a behavior pill every morning. Without it he is very "mean" for lack of a better word. I don't like it but it works. We went with a natural remedy for a while and could see that it worked but being it was not recognized by the Medical profession it was not acceptable to the school system here. We worry about the long term effects of his daily dosage. But seems we are the only ones that do. Some doctors have never seen a pill they did not like. Hang in there and good luck.

Sounds like the melatonin that my son takes to help him sleep, I for one believe herbs work. I am not sure about melatonin being an herb but that's the section of the store you find it in.
