I have already removed the sticker from the tank and the 'Yamaha' from the trunk. For those I used WD-40 to get the glue off, then used wax to clean up the mess that the WD-40 just smeared around. First off, are the tank badges just double sided taped on? Or, am I going to have to fill holes like in the old days? Secondly, is there something out there better for getting the glue off than WD-40, that won't hurt the paint? WD-40 and wax does do it, but it takes alot of elbow grease too. And lastly, is there and easy was of getting these chrome items off without damaging them? - Just in case I want to put them back on at a later date. craigr Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Squidley Posted September 23, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 23, 2009 Just reread your 1st line, the tank badges are easy to pull off, the eyebrows or "Whiskers" are not so easy. The chrome piece will come off the tape, but the tape sticks like nothing you have ever seen. gunboat Posted October 6, 2009 Share #19 Posted October 6, 2009 i removed the whiskers by using a plastic scraper that is beveled on the end. then i used some isopropyl rubbing alcohol 70% to soften up the double sided tape. continued using the plastic scraper to remove most of the tape. i tried some "gunk liquid wrench" but that didn't work real good. so i tried some lighter fluid it contains ( napha ) that did the job of getting the rest of the tape residue off. this combo worked for me. don c. At first I didn't like it but now its grown on me. Plus it's good fun to have people walk up and say "wow, that's the quietest Harley I've ever seen":rotfl: Mine's not black/blue but here's a pic of it. Judging from the Harley showrooms and all the accessories, I couldn't get away from having to have the logos all over my bike if it was a Harley. I like a lot of their over prices accessories but wouldn't want them on my bike simply cause everything has a Harley emblem on it. Talk about going overboard! catalyst Posted April 28, 2012 Share #25 Posted April 28, 2012 Yep, love the clean look! Took mine off... Used Goo-Gone but removing all the residue was a pain! I found that using a hair blow dryer helps a lot. Just ran an extension chord and heated up the adhesive residue and scraped it off.
