Our trip to the Horsepital....

So last night I hooched my youngest son off to the local Horsepital as he was running a Temp of 103. Approached Nurse Ratchett at the Counter in the ER. She looks at me,then looks at son. First words outta her mouth was "Do you have Insurance"? When I indicated YES she cordially handed me a REAM of Forms along with a clipboard and TWO ink pens.

After 40 minutes of writing furiously I anxiously waited for her to come get a DNA sample from me to prove that I was a real hard-working American Taxpayer...with viable Income....and my picture was not featured on the walls of every Post office in the Noo England area.

Long story...short....Last night was such an enjoyable experience that I am now contemplating capping a round into my left foot and blowing my pinky toe right into oblivion....just to get back to Nurse Ratchett and bask in her warm personality and true caring for all who appear before her.

Have a nice day all.

Boomer.....who is rounding up the paperwork for his Legal name change to "PONCHO"...And says don't blame me...I didn't post signs with Spanish Directions to the Horsepital.:missingtooth:

Hey now, don't go blaming that pretty little nurse,,, after all, she was just told yesterday by her boss that they have a business to run, and it needs to make money, so don't be doing anything stupid like taking on non paying customers. Yep, that's the way it is,,, she might want to care for you,,, that's why she's a nurse, but she wants her job more,,, after all she needs to pay bills as well. Did I say this was right? NOPE, but that's the way it is. Around here, it's all 'Free', you just have to show your card,,,, but you'll wait until something freezes over before you get looked at, unless you have chest pains, then they get to you in time.

Enough soap box.

Carl,,,, who can't wait for the next life, but is totally enjoying this one anyways.

If you want to blame for all that rediculous paper work, you can put the blame where it belongs. Trial lawyers, they have caused it all.

They claim they have made better health care, and safe products, when in reality all they have done is made thing cost 10 times what it should especially in the medical field.

Boomer,

I had a similar experience recently. Went to a specialist. I filled out the ream of paperwork about who and how payment would be made. As I was waiting to be ushered into the lavish examining room (not), a thought crossed my aged brain-pan . . .

What other business in the world can demand payment before service and offer no guarantee?

There is a reason doctors are said to "practice" medicine

So Boomer besides all the fun you had filling out the paperwork how is your son? I hate going to emergency rooms anyway.

Margaret

They made a quick determination that he was not suffering from that N1H1 Flu. A variation of a milder Flu nonetheless. They gave him a shot of something I cannot even pronounce without hours of practice. He's doing better this morning. Has his color back and walking around a bit. I'm keeping him inside and warm for the rest of today. He's chomping to go on a Patriot Guard Mission with me tomorrow with a KSU time here of 5:30AM from home. I'll see how he does for the rest of today and tonight before I rule on his attendance.

Thanks for asking Margaret. Yer a Keeper in my book sweetie.

Boomer....who'd like to be a Horsepital Chief Administrator for just 1 month.... to shake things up and re-set the priorities at that place.

I've been going through a bunch of tests for the last month to figure out what's going on with me. Specialists finally got a diagnosis yesterday.....sent me to pick up the prescription. 30 days worth of drugs (1 prescription)

Total cost:

$1,132.03

Had to pay out of pocket as I have a huge deductible. Guess we'll be eating beans and weenies for a while.

Merry Christmas to me.

I'm having my own little pity party today.:bawling:

Thanks for the sympathy. I'm just getting tired of being middle income where you take it in the shorts from both ends. I'm starting to realize that being hard working, honest and beliveing in paying your own way doesn't work.

Thanks again for the ear.

Hope your son is feeling better!

Glad your Son is better Tom and that it was nothing more serious then what it was, bad as it may have been.

Also, Sorry to disagree with you on this one Marcarl. But I firmly believe there is no excuse for not makeing "May I help you" or "What seems to be the problem" to be the first question out of her mouth.

I went on vacation to St. Maarten in August. Anyhow, I fell on the beach and busted my head open on the rocks at the beach, 5 inches and 1/4 inch deep. My wife, in nursing school, paniced and rushed me to the hospital. I filled a beach towel full of blood in the 15 minute ride. Walked in the door, offered my insurance card (they declined), gave them my name and where I was staying. The doctor came and got me, examined me, put 5 stitches in my head, and sent me to the counter. The "nurse" said $100 for the visit and stitches.

All that in under 20 minutes.

Now, why is it we have the greatest healthcare in the world, and some almost 3rd world country has a hospital that runs like that?

And to note, my wife works for a high profile general surgen in DC so I had him check the stitches. He said "Damn fine job he did on that". I was very impressed when he said that, and my scar is very small!

By the way, concussions aren't fun, and I just had a minor one!

The cost per (same) medical procedure or non-generic drugs in the USA is over twice as expensive (on the average) as it is in any other top 20 economic country according to a study I read recently. Over 50% of the personal bankruptcies in the USA involve medical bills.

I'll say no more.

Yep, that health care in Canada sure is awful compared to the Private, For Profit, care in the USA. I went for a check up and was diagnosed with multi tumor very aggressive cancer. I was given 24 months to live. I was sent to a specialist in Duncan who started immediate treatment with injections and drugs and ran more tests. I was then sent to the cancer clinic in Victoria where I had radiation treatments 5 days a week for 7 weeks. I don't know what it all cost, medical paid for it all, and my transportation costs, and lunches because I had to travel from Saltspring to Victoria. They also paid for the ferry rides. It is awfully expensive though, it costs me about $120.00 per year for premiums.

On the other hand, sometimes nurses can be a bit officious. I had acute appendicitis and had to book off work and get to the hospital in Saanich. My parents lived over there so I called for a ride from the ferry to the hospital, about 4 miles. I would have taken a cab but I had no cash. My father very reluctantly agreed to pick me up, seems I was interrupting their bridge game. He dropped me off in the parking lot and took off. I walked into admitting. I was the only one there. I told the nurse I needed to see a doctor. She told me to go sit down as there was an emergency on its way in. I sat for about ten minutes and was still the only one there. I went back up and said I really needed a doctor. She checked the waiting room and finally asked what my problem was. I said I was supposed to be operated on for appendicitis. She said " OHMIGAWD YOU'RE THE EMERGENCY" From then on things moved real fast.

Now into year 4 and going strong.

Hmmmm.

The Aussie health care system may be in some degree of shambles, but at least IT'S FREE (to a degree.)

A visit to outpatients at my local hospital for suspected H1N1 would be covered by Medicare.

I know of a guy who went to the good ol' USofA for a holiday, and got horribly sick whilst he was there. Spent a week or so in ICU. He did not take out travel insurance prior to flying out, and had to sell his home in OZ to pay for all his medical expenses.

Did you have to wait at the end of the line while a bunch of losers who should be at the doctors office are waiting in the ER for a minor ailement. No money down and come right in. A classic case is my EX Son In Law who fell to his knees at the ER doors to get priority treatment while his wife who was sicker then he was stopped to fill out paperwork and wait.

My insurance says STOP you cannot receive treatment at the ER until you pay $100.00 co-pay.Glad your son is OK.
