  1. Greetings! So, I'm thinkin' I need to lube my throttle cables to see if that keeps my Cruise Control from disengaging right as I start to scratch that itch on my... face. Please allow me to 'splain: No, I don't have fringe on my clutch/brake levers. I've owned this 99RSV since early 2007(ish) and as long as I've owned it, the Cruise Control will randomly disenguage on me. ususally within seconds, but sometimes as much as a several minutes after I enguage it. Originally I just assumed it was my... generous surface area adding wind resistance causing the CC to quit. Then I started testing it more sceintifically. It doesn't appear to be wind drag on my beer gut. I proved this by going 55MPH with a 45MPH tail-wind, giving me much less wind drag (going on a diet would take too long). I next thought that maybe one of the cancel switches was just reacting to a bump in the road. Soo.... I picked a nice, level, recently paved stretch of road (which is VERY hard to find in this town) with no bumps or asphalt-snakes. The CC disenguaged at seemingly randomly intervals. I did however notice that my throttle does tend to drag just the tinyiest little bit. Okay... now that I've gone through all that, my ACTUAL question is, what kind of lube should I use on throttle cables. Sorry all, but my wife already beat all of you to the smartarse "throttle cable lube" response. Since tomorrow is Sunday and the scoot-store is closed on Sundays here and I'm entirely too impatient to wait until Monday, I was wondering if there were any good/bad substitutes for throttle cable lube. Discuss...
  2. I've got 20K on the ole 06 RSV now and had never pulled the shaft out. Well, while I had the rear tire off for a change, I decided to pull the shaft to lube the splines. Glad I did, there was no lube on them that I could see, looked completely dry from the factory, but that's another rant altogether. Once started, it took only 15 minutes to pull and lube the shaft...and 2 1/2 hours to reinstall! My question is: What rocket scientist came up with that u-joint configuration? OK, now I'm done venting and I understand why they wanted 3 hours labor to do the job at the dealer. I just had to walk away a couple of times or I was going to throw the shaft across the garage... I got it all back together and all is well, but did I miss something? Other than that little access hole, a coat hanger, and 3 six foot long arms (one to hold the light, one to hold the hanger-turned u-joint hook and one to hold a light), is there a better way to line up the u-joint and shaft?
  3. I've noticed that my front brake lever kind of "catches" as you pull on it, not a smooth pull. Seems to be due to it rubbing on the actuator/plunger in the master cylinder and not having lubrication there. It appears that there is a slight depression or cupping in the actuator where the lever makes contact. I sprayed some dry lube on it and it smoothed out for a couple of days but is back to catching in increments again. Is this normal and what do you guys use to lubricate that contact point?
  4. I got my CT on last Saturday and did the full driveline lube while I was at it. It's the Kumho 165/80R15. I static balanced it with 1 oz. First of all, I would probably order a Vredestien if I did it again; just to see if it's any better. The Kumho took 110/112lbs to seat both sides and the sidewalls felt a little thin. On the wheel with air in the tire the sidewalls don't feel too bad. I'm running 42lbs right now. I finally got it all back together last night and rode it about 4 miles around the neighborhood. This morning I rode to work the long way 'round which included about 2 miles on the interstate up to 75mph. I'll be riding a bit more today. My first impressions are that I can't tell much, if any, difference between the handling of this and a MT. So at this point I have a tire that handles the same, cost a 1/3 of the MT I would have put on, has a 25% higher weight rating and should wear out 3-4 times slower than an MT. I may hate it tomorrow but I'm happy with it today! The driveline lube made the biggest noticeable difference. Much smoother and quieter now. (Stabbing the driveshaft was a PITA though.) If you haven't done it, I suggest you do it, asap. Made a world of difference. Now I gotta find me some RK mufflers!
  5. Plan for this weekend is to change gear lube on Venture and Stratoliner. As Amsoil preffered Customer i have to chose between diferent lube weight. Definitly I'M going to Change with Full Synthetic Gear lube. Amsoil have six or seven diferent type of lube. Just Wondering what is your expirence with Gear Lube? SAE 80w-90 SAE 80w-140 SAE 75w-90 SAE 75w-140 SAE 75w-110 Marine Gear Lube
  6. I did and used transmission fluid. I think it is too thin as the fluid "bounces" around a lot. Has anyone tried gear lube? I figure a 75 weight gear lube would be better than the water thin ATF I used. (I now clearly understand why Mercury is used in this application. ) I have about 2-3 feet of hose between the fluid & the carb so I'm not really worried about it being sucked into the engine.
