  1. Hey all! I hope everyone has been well. I have not been around much lately - busy, busy, busy... The attached pic os of my father in 1952. Can anyone ID the bike he is on? Thanks for any help!
  2. Well, due to some health problems, we had to make a sudden change and move in with the Father in-law. We were offline for a week or better. ( wife killed the cable service a bit to soon) But now we are cookin with gas again.
  3. There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.. He said, 'You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. But It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Remember that friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.'
  4. Has anyone heard anything from Black Owl. Last time he posted was the 19th about going for Blondie Burgers. His father was having health problems. Just hoping everythings ok.
  5. I talked to my Son tonight, He's heading out to boot camp:pushups: in San Diego Ca. on May 4. I'm so proud of him yet I'm scared as well - being a Father. He said he wanted to go in the Marines. So I gave him my full support:happy34:. He was kinda shock that I backed him on his decision. Told him I wanted to go in when I was 18 but my football days ruin that idea - knees. So now my Son is going to serve our Country. Sorry this is not about motorcycles, Just wanted to tell everyone how proud I am of my Son...... Buddy Father of a U.S. Marine
  6. My father in law has been a machine operator for GM for 37 years. He decided to take the retirement package. Part of the package is a $25,000 voucher towards any new GM vehicle. His employee discounts still apply. He isn't really interested in a new vehicle, and offered to sell me the voucher for $20,000. I would have 18 months to use it (from Mar 1st) Looking at the 2010 Camero SS, base MSR price $32,000. Employee discount would be about 1,000. What do ya think? What car would you buy?
  7. Picked this up in an email today, wanted to share it. One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, 'How was the trip?' 'It was great, Dad.' 'Did you see how poor people live?' the father asked. 'Oh yeah,' said the son. 'So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?' asked the father The son answered: 'I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.' The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, 'Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.' Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have. Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends! Pass this on to family, friends and acquaintances and help them refresh their perspective and appreciation. "Life is too short and friends are too few!"
  8. I was just thinking what can I say to thank all of you Veterans out there? I never served in the military. I actually wanted to enlist in the Navy when I got out of nursing school and be a Navy nurse, but my Father would not let me serve. My Father was in the Army and Ron was in the Army too. I want to just say I appreciate the sacrifices that you made to serve our country. And I think we all need to take a moment from our busy lives to think of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice serving the USA. To all the families that have lost a loved one in the wars in the past and in the present. We have this day to think of them all and to pray for them all. May God Bless the USA and all our Veterans. Thank you. Yama Mama:325:

  12. Happy Father's Day to all dads out there, whether brand new ones or very experienced! Hope you have a day of great weather for riding, going out for an ice cream and having time with your family! Something to share: My Father My Father When I was: Four years old: My daddy can do anything. When I was: Five years old: My daddy knows a whole lot. When I was: Six years old: My dad is smarter than your dad. When I was: Eight years old: My dad doesn't know exactly everything. When I was: 10 years old: In the olden days, when my dad grew up, things were sure different. When I was: 12 years old: Oh, well, naturally, Dad doesn't know anything about that. He is too old to remember his childhood. When I was: 14 years old: Don't pay any attention to my dad. He is so old-fashioned. When I was: 21 years old: Him? My Lord, he's hopelessly out of date. When I was: 25 years old: Dad knows about it, but then he should, because he has been around so long. When I was: 30 years old: Maybe we should ask Dad what he thinks. After all, he's had a lot of experience. When I was: 35 years old: I'm not doing a single thing until I talk to Dad. When I was: 40 years old: I wonder how Dad would have handled it. He was so wise. When I was: 50 years old: I'd give anything if Dad were here now so I could talk this over with him. Too bad I didn't appreciate how smart he was. I could have learned a lot from him. By: Ann Landers
  13. I don't wan't to short any of my children. They all make me a proud father. But two of the have put it all on the line, so to speak. Most of you know about Jake and his joining the Marines. (By the way, he left florida tonight headed out to New River S.C to continue his training in his MOS) My Oldest boy has joined the Mississippi Army National Guard (full time) and will be going to boot camp at Fort Jackson S.C. 2/12/08
  14. My father passed away peacefully on Wed morning with all of his immediate family by his side. He truly was a good man. One I was proud to have as my father. Throughout my life he was always there to help, encourage and even criticise both my brother and I. He lived a very full life of 83 years of which 62 were while married to my mother. He retired from the Lexington KY police dept with 29 years of service. Fortunately he was able to enjoy retirement for 25 years. Attached is his photo taken in about 1974. He will be missed. Dennis
