  1. TCI issues? I don't think so, more likely carb or fuel ratio issues. Carb synch done? What was the high vacuum reading when sync adjust ended? -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  2. NEVER use a common cheap trickle charger on a motorcycle battery, especially if you can't activley monitor the process. That's why most of us use a 'smart' charger so we can set it and forget it. The 'Battery Tender' 1.75Amp unit seems most popular. Got mine at a garage sale for $5 but they sell new for around $50-$60 -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  3. I used a 3 gas analyzer for years but found that I could better tune the engine the old fashioned way... 'ear', 'nose', and 'feel'.... and checking the plugs. The machine could only be used stationary. The analyzer was finally stolen from my garage and I don't miss it, besides, the theft saved me from having to get rid of it. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  4. "Clacking" sound is starter clutch disengaging as a result of most likely a weak battery charge level. Clutch gets thrown into release because starter can't overcome compression. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  5. iSimple is a Premium Factory Radio Interface for iPod, iPhone or iPad, Android and Other Smartphones -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  6. Mix a batch of dishwashing liquid soap, about 1tsp / qt. and use a spray bottle to wet the tire/wheel/valve assembly. With the bike up on centerstand, you can easily rotate the front wheel and watch for any bubbles forming. That's the way I found a rim leak caused by wheel corrosion. I deflated the tire and used a large 'C' clamp to compress the tire bead away from the rim enough to clear the corrosion out and reseal the bead. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  7. I've been out in thunderstorms where it poured so hard the cagers pulled off the road leaving me the only one moving. The windshield design worked well on my 1st gen VR to stream the water off the shield and up over my head. I was amazed that I could see well when car drivers had to stop because their wipers couldn't keep up. I did look over the top edge when the w/s got dirty enough to not see thru. The main problem I had was water pooling in the seat and soaking thru the seams of my rain pants.... 'Seamseal' cured that. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  8. I'm gonna spray paint my house soon........can I borrow them for a bit? -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  9. All fixed!!! Did what you suggested, lifted out the CB and checked the DIN plugs.... and one was not connected.......plugged it in, secured the wire and tested and works fine again. 10 minute job. Many thanks for the responses and suggestions. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  10. No Sound. CB unit powers on, displays frequencies, rotating squelch control knob causes Rx display to go on and off, Tx indicator goes on when transmit button pressed. All the headset buttons and mute buttons for the audio system in correct settings. Still no sound, but the rest of the audio system works fine. Troubleshooting tree in manual is of no real help. What should I be looking for? -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

  13. Awesome concept. Running on pavement may not be so good for those flotation tires. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  14. You said: ""The only one they aren't sure about being able to get is the one on the bottom of the thermostat housing that holds the bypass tube."" Yamaha part 93210-14104-00 O-RING...........those are generic and easily found at auto and hardware stores. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  15. Anyone have a five pin 1/2 helmet audio headset they can part with? For use on my '88VR 1st Gen MKll. PM me. (4/23/14) -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  16. I've looked for the o-rings at several parts stores plus a few specialty stores, and found none. Finally ordered from Partzilla.com/Boats.net and they were not that expensive, just had to wait on shipment. Dealer is the way to go if you need them right away. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  17. Too lean causes popping.......lean causes unburned fuel mix to enter exhaust....then when it is exposed to open flame from another cylinder....KA BAAAM!! -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  18. I've been reading many of the posts here on the subject of touring. I once took a 10 day mc camping tour of Banff and Jasper Parks in Canada with my woman on a first gen VR. We packed all our gear-for-two into the hard bags/trunk and tent gear on the cargo rack. Worked out that we did laundry every 3-4 days, stopping once for an overnight motel stay to dry our wet tent from a late summer rain torrent. If two of us could travel easily this way within the confines of the bike, you can too. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  19. Any idea how to convert the microphone for use with an open face half helmet? -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  20. Fun... fun. Sure reminds me of the '48 Harley, the first motorcycle I learned to ride out on the Canadian praries as a young 10yo.and that was an adventure in itself. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  21. If that were the case, the fuse for that circuit would blow......... buy you knew that already. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  22. A good battery will produce around 9-10v while cranking. --Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  23. Working from MEMORY of repair work a couple years ago, I often use Partzilla or Boats.net, but may have found new old stock parts on e-bay. Despite others experience, I've used Partzilla for several years for all my bikes with zero problems, including order cancellations. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  24. REPLACE IT! They are only some $30 new, and easier to replace now when everything apart rather than later. Also replace the T-stat housing for the same reason. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  25. Keep the bad nasty fumes from escaping? Without a lock, those fumes could undo the cap and dissappear. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
