  1. Perhaps its time to trade to something newer! Works for me.
  2. How about some foot board brackets for first gens? Or something that would pop out and catch the bike when I do something that would result in scratch and dent moments.
  3. There's three guys I know that can help with pain, Jim, Jack, and my favorite, Mark. After my accident last summer (not on the bike) my shoulders and neck have bothered me. Turns out I have arthritis in my spine.C-5 and 6. The accident just brought it out. They decided not to repair the Park Service truck I was driving. Sorry, your taxes will have to buy a new truck for whoever takes over my job. We decided not to go back next year and we will tour New England instead. Hope to see some of you as we will travel from L.A. across the southern states towards Florida then as it warms up , north to Maine. Then back towards the west coast as the weather cools. Looking forward to the trip.
  4. Where's the best place to stay in Vegas? Stay on I-15 and keep going. Its too crowded, too expensive and traffic is terrible. As far as gambling is concerned, they did not build the casinos because they want you to win.
  5. The best part of deer hunting for me was the week away from my first wife!!!!
  6. I find it interesting that the spare tire is covered with an "Indian". Is he saying he would rather have an Indian motorcycle? I do love the look of the sidecar.
  7. Instead of looking for cheap hotel/motel/notels, don't you have friends all over the country? Throw a sleeping bag on the bike then "visit" friends everywhere.
  8. Sorry to hear about your uncle. The squadron is still active, but stationed in Japan somewhere. VA-192 was also the squadron that bombed the bridges in the movie called "The Bridges of Toko Ri". 192 was called The World Famous Golden Dragons. Sometimes called the Gaggin Dragons. Their sister squadron VA-195 was also in the movie and bombed the dams on some river. They called the squadron the Dam Busters.
  9. Great report. Happy to hear no injuries, other than EGO type. Send a copy to First Gear. They might be able to use it in advertising, and maybe replace your slightly used gear.
  10. I also have stories, but some should never be repeated. I served with VA-192 aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard CVA-31. I made 2 cruises, 62 and 64. It still exists, but as cars, pipe , maybe even my Yamaha. It was terribly disappointing to watch it being scrapped.
  11. Riding is very nice here in Palm Springs this time of year. Had to take the liner out of my coat though. The only snow to be seen is on the mountain tops. Now if i can just get the brakes redone.
  12. While visiting The Wall I got in a conversation with an employee about articles left at loved ones names. A great number of items have been warehoused because of lack of display space. He told us about one couple who drove to the wall and unloaded a Harley Davidson, then walked it down to where their sons name was engraved, then walked away. At the American History Museum we found another exhibit containing items left at The Wall. One item that left me in tears was a wreath left by a mother of a fallen soldier. It contained all the items he would never use. A wedding ring, baby shoes, you get the idea. I had to leave, crying. If you ever get to DC, it is an excellent exhibit if you don't get too emotional.

    So??????

We had a little bit in Wyoming, that's why we are now in Phoenix!!! Got cold last night! about 50 degrees.
  14. That must be whats wrong with my 88. My magnetic intensity is too low! I get spark in all cylinders, but left front does not fire. Already done SEAFOAM. As far as new colors on this site, how about the 88 model white?
  15. You people make me feel so young! Thank you.
  16. Three days in DC is not near enough time to see all there is to see. When the wife and I took our granddaughter to DC I figured I could go to the air and space museum for a week and the "girls" could go see everything else. I learned that was a silly thought. A month in DC would not be enough. Also, if you drive to DC, parking is almost impossible to find. Good luck with the trip.
  17. I also have a 88, and am a scandahoovian as well. Not from Ramsey but down Maple Plain way. Not anymore though. The snow is too cold for me. You would think science could come up with a way to make it snow at 70 degrees. Why would you want to remove the trunk? I took mine off to give it a real good clean and didnt like the look at all. I dont know of any aftermarket fenders but i dont know everything. Good luck with finding one.
  18. Grandchildren are great, despite the circumstances of their birth. Enjoy your new family member!

How about "all of the above"
  20. bought my 88 vr 4 years ago and got it for 2800. It had 29000 on the odometer. it runs great, just does not like cold weather. gets a little hard to start around freezing.
  21. How about a 1955 Jaguar XK-140 convertible? Paid $700 for it, then traded it for a 1955 Mercury Montclair. If I still had the Jag it would sell for nearly 100 grand. I could buy several new Ventures for that!
  22. If anyone will be traveling through the Grand Tetons this summer, stop by the Colter Bay Visitor Center and ask for Barry. I would love to meet some real live VR riders. 1st gens would be preferable, but I'm open to 2nd gens too. If you can't find me, my 1st gen will be in the NPS shop area. I'm looking forward to meeting you.
  23. If going to Grand Canyon North Rim in June you better have your reservations already. The lodge there will be booked solid from the day they open until they close for the season. Taking the mules into the canyon from the North Rim will only get you to Roaring Springs, not the bottom of the canyon. As far as staying overnight in the canyon, you will again need reservations! I have heard how beautiful it is in the canyon but have never seen it firsthand. I did however work at the North Rim for two years. First for the concessionaire, then for the National Park Service. Lots of hiking trails, beautiful scenery. It will be cool up there in June since summer arrives about July 2nd or 3rd, then fall arrives 4 or 5 days later. No long summer. You will enjoy it I'm sure.
  24. What ever happened to the 250s for starter bikes? Assuming your son has no experience with riding. My first bike was a cb 160. I thought it was fast. To have someone who has no riding time at all to jump on a 1000c bike to start is asking for an accident. Just my 2 cents.
