I have had my 02 since I bought it new in April of 03 and it has had this whine from the start. I didn't think much of it as it was there when the mechanic at the dealer turned the bike over to me and when quetioned he explained the square cut gears. After 20,000 miles the bike is still going strong and I have not had any problems. On my bike this whine is most noticable during decelaration. You will not regret buying one.

Tire manufacturers spend a lot of time determining what pressures will provide the best compromise of performance and tire wear on the street. While some manufacturers recommend running the same pressures listed in the owner's manual for the bike's OE tires, a significant number-such as Metzeler and Pirelli-have proprietary pressures that should be run on particular tire/bike combinations. Be sure to ask your dealer or check the tire manufacturer's product literature for specific numbers. And check the pressure before every ride! Cory Johnson from Metzeler/Pirelli says between 75 and 80 percent of the tire warranty claims he reviews are caused by underinflation. When the cost of today's premium rubber is considered, investing in a good tire gauge-and using it religiously-is cheap insurance. Feb. 2000, Sport Rider Mag.

I would question what is stated here. The attached was posted in the Feb 2000 issue of Sport Rider magazine. With this in mind I would wonder if V7Goose really knows what he is talking about and why he would make such a post. Actually it was not the factory rep that I was talking to, it was the dealer who has been in the are for 40 years or longer. He said the 880 was a 50 PSI tire which is what I have seen others here say they are running for this tire. This is also what it says on the tire. He actually steared me away from Avons and recomended the Metzler as being the right tire for the Venture.

I had a problem with the first Metzler tire on the rear which was the replacment for the original Dunlap that picked up a nail at about 3000 miles. The Metzler developed a crack in the tread, which I thought was a bit unusual. Upon taking the tire back to the dealer he was quick to ask what tire pressure I was running. I told him I was following the sticker pressure that was inside the trunk. Right when I told him that I relized that was the wrong answer. What I should have been doing was following the recomended pressure on the side of the tire. I put another Metzler back on the rear and have since replaced the front with a Metzler. I have also crossed out the information on the tag in the trunk and the manual and wrote See Tires in its place. Live and Learn I Guess.

I have owned my 02 Midnight since new in April of 2003 and have put just 16,000 miles on her with no problems what so ever. Sure there are some things that Yamaha could do to make this bike even better, and hopfully they will. However, even if they didn't and I had to replace this one for whatever reason. I would do it again in a heart beat. There are not any other bikes out there that I know of that offer a 5 year unlimited warranty which should tell something about the confidence that Yamaha has in this machine. -

LEDs on the dash would be nice. OEM lights are hard to see on sunny days. More gages, water temp, volts, oil pressure. -
Spark Plug Question

I'm wondering the samething regarding plug changes. My 02 has the original plugs with 14,000 on them now and they still look new. Sure they are cheap to change but why spend the money if you don't have to. -
Yamaha passing/driving lights screws don't fit

I agree, they are a bit hard to get to but had no fit-up problems. -
I would agree, whenever there is an accident in my home town I am always interested in the details in order to educate myself in accident avoidance. In many many of the cases what happened, heppened because the rider was doing something stupid. What upsets me even more is when I see some young buck with a sweet little chicky poo on the back and the moron is riding like an idiot.

So is this something that should be considered routine maint. Even for a bike that only has around 11,000 miles on it?

I ride a 2002 Midnight Venture with a little over 11000 miles on her.

I know most of us don't ride around without our hands on the handle bars, but on occasion when I am riding with one hand or if I let go of the stearing my front wheel will start to shimmy. Once I grab on it will go away. Has anyone else exeperianced this? Is there something that I sould look into or is this normal?
