  1. bought a 5 wire powered adaptor at a local auto parts store. I didn't purchase the adaptor cable, but should have would have been cleaner and easier. Plug in is below the seat. Wrapped the wires black spiral wrap from Radio shack( my bike is black) but they have clear and white as well. Al
  2. 1 use your Credit card as much as possible. your credit card probably is not chipped so there will be a little more fuss but not much 2 Canadian side of the Falls is much nicer 3 Enhanced Drivers license should be enough, but passport speeds things up 4 Bennington, Eat at the station house restaurant 5 get the forms for rebate of GST for goods you buy in Canada 6 Eh is a form of punctuation, not a question Enjoy Al
  3. I recently purchased a Piggy Backer XL trailer, which came with a swivel mount hitch. Although I have assembled the trailer, I have not used it yet as I have a couple modifications I want to make. I will let you know at a later date how it holds up and if it really offers anything better than a standard hitch. Al
  4. low fuel light comes on at 180 to 200 miles, ten miles or so have to switch to reserve, have gone 260 to empty but tht was intentional and was carrying spare gas, just to check how far I could go if needed. if I fill up when the light comes on I can only put in 4.5 gallons 2007 midnight Al
  5. Sold my Florida 2004 Goldwing, happy to be rid of it, not that it was a bad bike, it just didn't fit me as well as my Northern Bike a midnight venture. Now my dilemma, my wife has more motorcycles than me, anybody interested in a 2008 V-Star 1100? another option would be for me to buy another Royalstar, I kinda like that idea:lightbulb: Al
  6. If you want to get access to the demo rides you need to be a registered guest, the vendor area pass will not get you in there. Skip the escorted rides they are slow cumbersome and often accordion or slingshot a lot. get a good map or local advice and do your own rides. head up past Brant lake nice curvy road or past ny rt 8, or up the lake Luzerne Road and continue up to Great Scanandaga lake. if you register take the Yamaha boat tour around the lake, or one of the several other manufactured boat trips, but don't expect much from the dinners themselves. The BBQ on top of MT prospect werte pretty good, but Don't think they have those this year, nice ride up the mountain anyway. The Friday night dinner at Great escape was pretty good, but you can watch the fireworks from anywhere. In any case enjoy. Forgot to mention Skip the parking pass, if you have a registered wrist band, park in one of the tour expo lots and take the shuttle or walk, just about everything is within a mile radius. Parking on the streets is crowded and prone to scratches Al
  7. Been working on how to breath through my Butt for years. So far I have exhaling down pretty good
  8. although I don't care for the looks, I do like that Honda is at least trying to release something innovative in the 1300 size range. I always hoped Yamaha would develop a luxury touring bike from the FJR engine, along the same appearance as the Venture. Al
  9. but after they forced the suv to a stop, I feel he had every right to run right over those bikes, and when they were chasing him, he should have just started bumping them into the guardrails, he was in fear for his family's safety. we need to ride respect for others above and beyond what we expect from others if bikers ever expect to get past the biker gang stigma
  10. I have used it on my 2007 Venture, without any problems, I Do not do it often , just every couple weeks, so maybe a dozen times a year. My windshield is still clear and scratch free. I suspect many of the dire warnings you hear are not from first hand experience. Al
  11. Mike: at the meet and eat last spring at Siebring, the guy with the old classic Goldwing, had just shipped his bike down on the auto train. I don't remember his name but one of the guys at lunch that day should remember him. He had some damage on the trunk, caused by rubbing after one of the stabilizing straps broke. Al
  12. Illogical as it sounds I find it easier to step over the seat from the high side, if that fails let all the air out of the suspension and then get on. or get a buddy to get down on his hands and knees and use him as a step stool Al
  13. This dealer sells vehicles on consignment, has several real nice classic cars in the yard asking 100k or more, and a few fixer up roadable classics. I already have a 2007 Venture, and a 2004 Goldwing, which is ok but I like riding the Ventures a lot more, was thinking a possible replacement for the Goldwing (which resides in Florida) but I will wait until I get back down there and buy something Maybe a Royalstar TC or a Valkyrie. Know anybody who would like to swap a VALKYRIE INTERSTATE Low miles excellent cond FOR A 2004 GOLDWING in very good cond Al
  14. nice looking bike, but I will pass they want $8950 for it
  15. http://plattsburgh.craigslist.org/mcy/4010925253.html This ad claims this bike to be a 1993 Venture Royale, but it obviously is a Royalstar Venture. This appears to be at a well known trusted and respected Classic car dealers location. I might try taking a look at it, only an hour away, and I need another bike, my wife has 3 and I only have two:no-no-no:. Anyway I wonder what they are asking, might be priced like a 93 the phone number matches this dealer, not usually motorcycle related but fun place to window shop http://www.anbclassics.net/ Al
  16. I have a 2007 venture midnight, typically I get 45 to 50mpg. I ride very differently than the way most on this forum will tell you to ride. most would say I shift way too early. But then they say they get their best milage by riding in 4th most of the time and not shifting into 5th until around 65+ mph, I do it about 40-45mph I can always shift down if I need the performance. On a trip riding 2 up from Plattsburgh NY to Billings Montana I got anywhere from 45 to 50 mpg riding Highway speeds all the way. there is one fly in the ointment, as we got to the high plains a mile or so above sea level, my MPG dropped to the low 30mpgs. when I got back down to a couple hundred feet above sea level everything was back to the normal mpg. so if you are riding high altitudes expect significantly lower mpg. I had a 2001(I think) Royalstar TC with BuB pipes sounded nice but would pop on long deceleration runs or going down hill under compression. I had the bike rejected suggested by the pipe manufacturer and the popping was gone. Al
  17. ok best choice get a single head set system give the wife the earphones you get the microphone second best My wife and I bought a pair of modular helmets with built in Bluetooth communication. my phone, gps and probably any other Bluetooth device communicates with this helmet. We also use it as an intercom while riding 2 up, I know the venture has this feature built in but you need a compatible headset and a cable to connect and disconnect. We also use the helmets for bike to bike communication this also works well up to about a quarter mile separation, then cuts in out before disconnecting. while we are using the communication feature if I get a phone call I can just answer bu tapping the button(about the size and thickness of a quarter) on the side of the helmet. as an intercom it works great. for bike to bike it is great from my Venture to her vstar 1100, from her bike to mine we get more engine and wind noise, sometimes enough to make conversation difficult. under normal cruise speed it is ok from hers to mine. Even when ambient noise is real high I am aware that she is trying to contact me, since I hear a beep in the helmet when she tries to transmit. It appears more than two bikes can use this for bike to bike communications, I think the limit is 3 bikes, but there is a 4 bike mode, but one then becomes the master(whatever that means). In short works well, cost $179 two years ago( through leather up). battery life is about a day of use, a few if only turned on but no conversation. Battery will hold a charge for a month or more if turned off. it takes overnight to charge from fully depleted. you charge the batteries in the helmet using a small phone sized charger
  18. With your arms up there the wind can blow right up your sleeves and dry the sweat, people could go months without taking a bath.
