  1. Rather than using that mickey mouse set up in the picture to connect the wires, I would use one of these. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?137711-Aux-lighting-harness-for-2nd-gen-ventureBut that is just me.
  2. Basically yes, for the ground what I would do is to take both of the ground wires from the modulator and put them together on the tag wire I have coming off the ground circuit, that way you provide a ground for the modulator with out interrupting the ground circuit to the other lights. For the brake circuit, yes determine which connector on the bike is coming from the main harness and which is going out to the fender harness. Put the input side of the modulator to the main harness side and the out put side of the modulator to the fender harness side. If I still had my Venture I could tell you which is which, but it is long gone and I was not smart enough to write that info down before I sold it. Send me a PM here on the forum or email me at stevemarilyn@Hotmail dot com and we can work out the details. Have everything I need on hand and could ship on Monday.
  3. Jay, easiest place is under the seat, the brake circuit is yellow, the ground is black. This may sound a little self serving, but I never recommend cutting into the bike's original harness. It is always best you build or buy a jumper that has the correct connectors on each end and plug it in and cut / splice or tap into the jumper. That way the bike's integrity stays intact and if the unit goes bad or you want to remove it for any reason , like take it to a new bike you can do it easy. Now for the self serving part; I make and sell jumpers that will do exactly what I suggested above. Typically my jumpers are used to provide a convenient location to splice in for adding lights, but the owner could also cut the jumper wires as needed and splice in the device he has , or can build one special with the brake and ground wires pre cut ready to splice into. Here is link to my basic jumper http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showproduct.php?product=4&title=aux-lighting-harness-for-2nd-gen-venture&cat=18 I also have some other products you may be interested in to increase the rear lighting, just check out the member vendor section of the classifieds and look for my screen name.
  4. My concern is that if the OP can hear the fan while riding, then maybe the temp switch that controls the fan is stuck on and the fan is running all the time. That would cause premature failure of the bearings, as the fan should seldom operate on these bikes. Even here in Florida in the summer, I had to be in very slow heavy stop and go type traffic before mine would come on. I agree with going to Pinwall or any other reputable salvage yard for the part, but do ensure the temp switch is not malfunctioning also. If it were me I would order the part from Pinwall with delivery as fast as you need it, pull the fan from your bike while waiting and determine if the bearings can be removed and replaced, if they can, I would find a bear supplier and have them replace the bearings. Bearings are generally a set finite size, folks like Yamaha pick them off the self and design the applications around the available sizes, so replacements should be available, if they are sealed bearings, squirting oil or WD40 on them is unlikely to have any effect. Oops , just saw the post where it was fixed.
  5. That is one amazing airplane, I worked on them for about 7 years between the Air Force and McDonnel Douglas. Watched them do Viking take offs many times. A Viking Take off is where the pilot pulls the aircraft up vertical as soon as it lifts off the runway. When the F-15 beat the soviets in the time to climb record, the aircraft went down the runway at full afterburner lifted off and then went vertical and broke the sound barrier while in vertical flight. I believe it could probably fly with both wings gone, the engines are that powerful.
  6. I got tired of trying to keep my white walls clean , so I went with black side wall Dunlop E3s, good tire and great mileage.
  7. Here try this link it may help, http://www.airbagcenter.com/faq.aspx
  8. Well those of US that have a birthday today also celebrate it with Emmy Lou Harris, one of my favorite singers.
  9. Baron's was making some as well as Gen Mar, no cable change required, but you may have to fiddle with them, especially , the throttle cable to get it just right. I think I removed a few tie wraps to losen up the throttle cable so did did not stick when the bars were taken to full stop either left or right. One thing you will find is that the risers will touch and rub the black console that is around the ignition switch when the bars are taken to full stop left or right, as long as you still have the stock black one there will be no real problem it will flex out of the way and eventually there will be a little mark on the cover. If you have gone to the hard plastic chrome cover, those will crack when contacted by the risers on full stop.
  10. I bought a rubber lined clamp that would normally be used on a wire bundle, fashioned an aluminum tab for the voltmeter to stick on and put the clamp on the handle bars just a little right of the left hand bar support. As I recall it took a bit of fiddling around to get the angle just right, but looked OK when done.
  11. no help here, I did just what you are talking about back in July of 2014, for the same reason you are looking. I really loved my Venture, but it just got to where it was to top heavy for my old knees. The Goldwing is different, the ergonomics are different, but the balance and power in my mind make up for the differences. One of the first things I did was to install a set of Kuryaken floorboards they let you more your feet a bit more forward than stock pegs. Later I installed a set of mini-boards that mount to the engine crash bars, they let me stretch as much as I need when the need arises. I will say this, the fit and finish on the Venture is better than on the Goldwing and the ride is not as soft or plush as the Venture, the suspension on my 2013 is stiff, which improves the handling, but the ride quality suffers some. Do try and get a test ride, you will probably be hooked if you do.
  12. I started with a 750 Virago, forget the year, but probably a 1994. Then a 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic Thena 2007 Royal Star Venture All were trouble free.
  13. If you do not have these you will nee them to properly hang the mufflers. http://pinwallcycle.com/product_info.php?products_id=47548&osCsid=k3c0cs1ro5d0s9n3a5gm2ta5j3
  14. So I looked at your profile and the bike in your photos is a 4 pipe exhaust se up, the stock 1999 Tour Classic was a 4 into 2 pipe set up similar to the Venture ones you are buying. One of two things has happened, the previous owner took the 4 into 2 pipes off the bike or the model you have is not truly a Tour Classic. Yamaha put out up to 5 or 6 different models of the Royal Stars each year from 96 to around 99, some models were pipers others 4 x 2 set ups. I know for a fact that starting in 1998 the Tour Classics were all 4 x 2 set ups coming out of the factory. Looking at the photos in your profile I would say that you do not have the stays for the saddle bags installed , those are required for the 4 x 2 mufflers to hang on. Those are way to heavy and long to just let them hang in the breeze off the header pipes, the mufflers have to be supported.
  15. cowpuc asked Sort of, the diode will only let one half of the sine wave through, so you will get a pulsed or chopped DC signal , to make AC into DC with minimal pulsing or chopping you need 4 diodes in the form of a rectifier bridge. Go here http://newton.ex.ac.uk/teaching/CDHW/Electronics2/SimSheet-02.html and go to milestone 4 to see a typical bridge rectifier circuit.
  16. As long as your Tour Classic still has the stays for the saddle bags the only issue you will have is fabricating an adapter plate to hang the mufflers. The Tour Classics that had the 4 x 2 exhaust systems have a straight vertical tab off the top of the mufflers that aligned with a tab on the bottom of saddle bag brackets. The Venture style mufflers use a tab that goes up and bends over (as I recall) so the mufflers will not be a direct bolt on replacement, but I doubt that it is rocket science making an adapter. (I am doing all this from memory, I do not have my old Tour Classic or my Venture any more to verify my memory so I could be a little off on the details) but I do know the mufflers on the two models attach differently.
  17. Well I can use them to build my light bars, I can use them at $0.10 each (while supply lasts) to replace the ones I have been buying from DigiKey for$0.37 each plus shipping and I get the benefit of poking around this great little surplus shop that just opened in town, check it out https://www.facebook.com/Planet-Surplus-1611291625785081/
  18. Perfect, thanks guys.
  19. I picked up some through hole mount style diodes at a local surplus store yesterday, couple of pennies each, so I figured I would just search the internet when I got home , using the info printed on the diode to get the specs. Well no luck, I have searched every which way I can think, I looked at DIGIKEY's website and MOUSER's website both with no luck. Hoping that some ore knowledgeable electronics guru can help me out. Standard bi-axial design (leads in each end) Physical size: diameter 0.197" (5.0 mm), length 0.36" (9.0 mm), black with silver stripe Info on the body: S3A2F SI 8318 I have more invested in time searching for info on them than time to find them in the store. It has now become a quest to find the information more than just idle curiosity.
  20. Here is a video up date to this thread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kubMa4Q5Jjc&feature=youtu.be I like it!
  21. If there is oil left in the shock or if the oil has leaked out into the dust boot around the shock and it lets go while riding, all that oil will dump out in front of the rear wheel, could be very exciting for a few seconds.
  22. Eck, what about that flat woven lacing cord the aircraft / military use for binding wire harnesses ? It is really tough in a static application, not sure I have ever used it for a dynamic application like your beaded seat. 23. Our thoughts are with you and yours, very sorry to hear such sad news.
  24. Most everything you will need for tis bike is in the technical library section. here is a link to the library http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?14-Second-Gen-and-Royal-Star-Technical-Library-READ-ONLY! Here is a link to changing the fork oil. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?57207-Changing-the-Fork-Oil
  25. Yeah Yamaha has dropped the STAR name as a product line, they will continue to brand certain models as STAR but they will be sold under the Yamaha name instead of STAR name. There cruiser line showing was nearly non-existent at Bikeweek in Daytona last week. I do not know what the are thinking, the only bikes they have now that even remotely interests me are the FJR and V-Max, they can keep everything else as far as I am concerned.
