  1. Sounds a lot like Kitchener Ontario. I am pretty sure they just paved over the rabbit runs to create their roads.
  2. My first thought was right there with Carls. Rubber gets harder with age and therefore looses grip. Two good signs of the tire getting hard which I have learned first hand are. 1- the tire starts to feel like it wants to slide every time you make a corner even on dry pavement. I even had the entire bike slide sideways on a ramp one year coming home from a WNY rally, to which the Count, who was behind me witnessed. Thankfully I did not go down but it was a wake up call 2- You start to notice that tire wear slows down and begins to exceed its normal life span. Initially you think great, but then you come to realize there is a very bad reason for this extended tire life. Even though the tire has lots of tread left, when it gets to this point change it. THE HIDE ON YOUR RIM IS NOT WORTH THE HIDE ON YOUR BACK . Hey @cowpuc I think I just made up a new slogan for your collection.
  3. @fool is probably the only one that still plays with marbles. Ask him if he can spare a few.
  4. Check out this old thread of when my bike was written off. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?28291-0n-the-road-again All the repairs were done using Plastex also sold by aircraft spruce under the name Plasti-fix. I embedded fiberglass drywall tape as reinforcement. It weld the plastic builds up the plastic forms tabs and sands as smooth as a babys bum. check particulaly post #1 and #15. That was in 2008 and its still holding together.
  5. Your kidding ....right!!!..... Did you forget it was Yammer that posted the question? .......He's probably sniffed 3/4's of the fumes before he even got started.
  6. You and me both buddy - Does it in the middle of the week when I gotsta work. Guess its exclusive to old retirees young bucks like you and me not welcome.
  7. Are you sure about that. Your not confusing that with I surrender cause you know ya can't win any how.
  8. It is also very easily done in Microsoft office picture manager or Photo Gallery. Oh and by the way Puc ....thanks to those selfies of your self I now have nightmares.
  9. I also have a deka AGM battery in my bike which is currantly on its 4th year and still going strong. I bought it locally for $84.00 from ACME Battery in Hamilton. At the time it was the best deal I could find on either side of the border. I have heard that some of the different brand names are actually Deka Battery's which have been relabelled. In either case the specs apear to be the same and that is why I posted it.
  10. I happened to stumble across this amazon.ca link and thought I would share. For venture 1st gen http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B014GBW3KS?refRID=ZS9EF7WEK3AP8F6XF4DZ&ref_=pd_rhf_se_p_img_3 For Venture 2nd gen http://www.amazon.ca/Maintenace-Performance-Replacement-Maintenance-KMG/dp/B00JH23AE0/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1442161126&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=Battery+for+yamaha+royal+star+venture
  11. If you have the old style main fuse with the replaceable blades check and make sure the screws which hold the fuse blades are secure. This is the plastic box which is on the red wire coming right off the batt pos. and is right beside the battery. Be careful you dont spill out and loose the spare blades stored in the black half of the cover. I have twice run across this problem on two separate bikes were the screws have backed off allowing an intermitttant connection which caused the battery to go flat while riding for no apparent reason.
  12. How do I go about making this request? when I click on awards request it comes up as though I am requesting an award for myself.
  13. I totally agree. this not the first time Paysaw has helped out the last time he helped out a friend of mine who rode a venture but not a member.
  14. Thanks to Paysaw I am back on the road again. I was in need of a stator as mine quit on the way home from the WNY rally. I had ordered one but was not going to see it until end of Sept. Ray had an extra one which he was kind enough to give me and in between hectic pre daughter wedding stuff I was able to squeeze in some time to swap it out and get my bike running. Ironically after finishing the bike this morning I went for lunch and when I got back, the ricks stator I ordered , which was not due to arrive until the end of the month was sitting on my front porch. More importantly I am back on the road.
  15. Haven't decided yet. I am thinking I may have to wait until I get some feed back from Cathy before I come to final decision ..................
  16. Could not have put it any better. Fortunately I have only run into the undesirable officers very Rarely. 99% of the time the officers I have come into contact with throughout my life have been more than deserving of the utmost of respect.
  17. Thats not camping thats Gypsy moteling. Get enough of you guys together and you could re-invent the wagon train, Dang did I say train:doh: I hate trains:bang head:
  18. Even though the stator quit my trusty old stead got me over the hump at the peace bridge and limped me all the way down to Canada customs. I would say thats not bad for an old gelding with 26 of years of wear on his teeth.
  19. Good point. Also aproximate Date as already mentioned could also be a factor for many.
  20. Would have but my trusty old steed its still sitting in the garage waiting for a new stator to arrive.
  21. You two leave many wonderful memory's behind as well Annie. Its been a pleasure to once again spend time with you and enjoy your carefree outlook. If ever I do get the chance to make it down under you can be sure you will be at the top of my visitation list. You two take care of each other and have a safe trip home.:bighug::bighug:Gotta get my three hugs in before that Marcarl guy comes in trying to hog all the attention.
  22. Oh MAAAANN ----why didn't you bring this up sooner. I just ordered a new Ricks stator through Amazon. PSSST Fool this is just between you and me but if in a reasonable amount of time I don,t manage to sell it ----Its yours You just have to pay the shipping
  23. See this is why I put it up for sale. VR has so many smart and handy people :whistling:that I was sure someone would be interested in picking it up at a bargain and resurrecting it. I tried to do it myself, but no matter how I looked I could not source a smoke injection tool. I tried to do it myself manually :scorched:but but it kept leaking out faster than I could blow it in and then I found out that apperantly using cigarette, cigar or pipe smoke is not the same.
  24. Ok so I voted for WV but now that I see the links for Maggee Valley NC and Canaan Valley WV, I am at odds with myself :confused24:since both look very enticing. I am thinking whichever is chosen for 2016 that the other becomes an option and gets chosen next year for 2017. Not that I have anything against my home province of Ontario being chosen. Just that it is home for me and I like to go to places I have never been. However if Ontario does end up being chosen, and though I may or may not have the time to be part of a committee, I would certainly help out were and when I can.
  25. Then too thee is the other side of the equation. A battery may show 12.5 volts with a volt meter but may not be able to maintain it. A soon as a load is put the the battery those 12 volts suddenly disappear, so if if you dont have access to a load tester you can get a somewhat idea of the condition of your battery by checking the battery with a voltmeter then while leaving the voltmeter connected, flip on your high beams and see if the voltage drops right off or whether it seems to be able to hold it or just drops off very slowly. Best to fully charge your battery with a charger 1st but even if the voltage is down to 10 volts when begining your test the rate at which it drop further will give you some indication as to the health of the battery. Hey Dave after having said all that I do actually have a proper load tester if you want to drop by with your battery and test it properly.
