Yup that is the same type of injury I had, just 1 vertebrae lower. The right side of the picture is the front of your spine while the left side with all the facets is the back of your spine. The idea behind the exercises I described is to force or move the disc forward and reduce the bulge at the back taking pressure of the nerve column. I too was told if ever I looked down and found I wet myself and did not feel it coming to head for emergency but that was 20 years ago and so far nothing of the sort has occurred. I continue to fix transport trucks for a living and help friends and family with renovations, So think positive. Oh and with regards to the squirrels remember you never see a motorcycle outside a psychiatrists office

GW, is your disc bulging to the front or out the back? I am by no means a Dr nor a back expert, can only speak from personal experience. If it triggered while bending forward I would be inclined to think the disc would bulge out backwards and to my understanding the nerve bundle runs through the spin behind the discs. Twenty years ago I was 25 feet from the ground when the scaffolding I was on toppled over, due to another individuals stupidity. I landed on my feet in a squat and there I stayed. The Emergency Dr miss-diagnosed me stating it was a muscle spasm. When I saw my family Dr He sent me home and I was to stay in bed for two months laying on my belly. He also sent me to a Physio therapist Who diagnosed me correctly stating I must have landed squarely on both feet as I herniated my L5-S1 disc straight back rather than to one side or the other which apparently usually happens in this type of fall. A follow up cat scan proved she rather than the Dr was correct. Any way I credit her for putting me back on my feet, (unfortunately near the end of my sessions I lost her to the Canadian Women's Olympic soccer team.). Any way to continue, One of the key exercises she made me do and I still do to this day is what in yoga they call the Cobra. The purpose is to stretch the ligaments that run along the front of the spinal column which is supposed to allow the discs to move more to the front of the spine, moving them away from the nerve column. At first I could barely do them. not just because of my injury but also because I am basically about as flexible as a 2x4. at 1st she wrapped a belt around belt line and the bench so I had bend rather than do what amounted to a perfect push up. at home I got one my kids to sit on my back to keep it down. eventually I got to the point were I could bend all on my own. The other one she had me do was called a superman fly were you lay face down then raise one arm and the opposite leg off the floor at the same time and hold. I had to alternate between these two exercises ten time a day. I did go to a surgeon but he deterred me from surgery saying that time and her exercises would give me the same results and be less intrusive which it did. Today I am doing very well though I use more brain and less brawn when I do physical work. Look into those exercises and discuss with your care giver. maybe they will help you too.

Happy Birthday Steamer. Hey Robin If Chabicheka is right, and your taking the Day Off ........Does that mean I don't get my nightly intimate phone call tonight.

I am all tooo familiar with back issues, and all I can say is No two people suffer the same but they all suffer. Just out of curiosity were you bending over the bike in a cold garage? If so you may have caught a cold in the muscles and they are never fun, just pretty much got to ride it out, as in my experience there isn't much you can do about it. Despite your circumstance I wish you a Happy belated birthday and a quick recovery. As far as #2 goes trust me your not going to like it, Sorry Just had a thought while your wife had you down on the floor sawing the helmet off your head ....You don't suppose she may have sneaked in a few back and rib shots with her knee, Do you.

You might get slammed anyway. my windshield from clearview came to $450. by the time I paid shipping Canadian exchange and good old Canadian customs fees. -

Hey GW what was your original helmet? Mine is about 3 or 4 years old and I have noticed on the odd occasion the catch can get a little temperamental. Just wondering if I should "A" replace it or "B" lavish my wife with extra praise and attention just in case. -
Very Sad story I often wonder what drives a person to such extreme measure's. I usually succumb to the notion that it is today's world that is the culprit. I have had a similar experience as a client of mine who became a close friend also gave up on life, as well as two of my daughters close friends. It really is a shame and I hope and pray that some day the world will become a better place for all, so that struggling souls do not feel the need to leave.

Sounds a lot like Kitchener Ontario. I am pretty sure they just paved over the rabbit runs to create their roads. -
My first thought was right there with Carls. Rubber gets harder with age and therefore looses grip. Two good signs of the tire getting hard which I have learned first hand are. 1- the tire starts to feel like it wants to slide every time you make a corner even on dry pavement. I even had the entire bike slide sideways on a ramp one year coming home from a WNY rally, to which the Count, who was behind me witnessed. Thankfully I did not go down but it was a wake up call 2- You start to notice that tire wear slows down and begins to exceed its normal life span. Initially you think great, but then you come to realize there is a very bad reason for this extended tire life. Even though the tire has lots of tread left, when it gets to this point change it. THE HIDE ON YOUR RIM IS NOT WORTH THE HIDE ON YOUR BACK . Hey @cowpuc I think I just made up a new slogan for your collection.

@fool is probably the only one that still plays with marbles. Ask him if he can spare a few.

Check out this old thread of when my bike was written off. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?28291-0n-the-road-again All the repairs were done using Plastex also sold by aircraft spruce under the name Plasti-fix. I embedded fiberglass drywall tape as reinforcement. It weld the plastic builds up the plastic forms tabs and sands as smooth as a babys bum. check particulaly post #1 and #15. That was in 2008 and its still holding together.

Your kidding ....right!!!..... Did you forget it was Yammer that posted the question? .......He's probably sniffed 3/4's of the fumes before he even got started.

Canadian Riders looking for a motorcycle battery
saddlebum replied to saddlebum's topic in Watering Hole
I also have a deka AGM battery in my bike which is currantly on its 4th year and still going strong. I bought it locally for $84.00 from ACME Battery in Hamilton. At the time it was the best deal I could find on either side of the border. I have heard that some of the different brand names are actually Deka Battery's which have been relabelled. In either case the specs apear to be the same and that is why I posted it. -

If you have the old style main fuse with the replaceable blades check and make sure the screws which hold the fuse blades are secure. This is the plastic box which is on the red wire coming right off the batt pos. and is right beside the battery. Be careful you dont spill out and loose the spare blades stored in the black half of the cover. I have twice run across this problem on two separate bikes were the screws have backed off allowing an intermitttant connection which caused the battery to go flat while riding for no apparent reason.

How do I go about making this request? when I click on awards request it comes up as though I am requesting an award for myself.

I totally agree. this not the first time Paysaw has helped out the last time he helped out a friend of mine who rode a venture but not a member.
-
Thanks to Paysaw I am back on the road again. I was in need of a stator as mine quit on the way home from the WNY rally. I had ordered one but was not going to see it until end of Sept. Ray had an extra one which he was kind enough to give me and in between hectic pre daughter wedding stuff I was able to squeeze in some time to swap it out and get my bike running. Ironically after finishing the bike this morning I went for lunch and when I got back, the ricks stator I ordered , which was not due to arrive until the end of the month was sitting on my front porch. More importantly I am back on the road.

Haven't decided yet. I am thinking I may have to wait until I get some feed back from Cathy before I come to final decision ..................

Could not have put it any better. Fortunately I have only run into the undesirable officers very Rarely. 99% of the time the officers I have come into contact with throughout my life have been more than deserving of the utmost of respect.
