  1. Wow, I just saw this as well. I wonder what this means for the long term outlook of the Indian brand? And the Slingshot for that matter??
  2. Sending prayers and happy thoughts your way. Wish I were closer, would have helped in a heartbeat. Hoping for a speedy recovery
  3. Hi Don, Could you get the pics put back into this thread for me. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?19621-KuryAkyn-Grip-Install Thanks
  4. I have this exact same problem. Every time one of the kids uses something from my tool box or workbench it never seems to make its way back there!!
  5. Are you sure your friend doesn't have a 1200? They are notorious for charging system problems. I put 30,000 miles on a 98 1500 that I bought in 2004 and had not a single problem with it before I was t-boned on it. One year I wasn't able to ride more than a few 100 miles because of a surgery, I had to have the carbs cleaned the following spring, let me tell you, that is not a job you want to pay for. It is very labor intensive and if I remember correct was something close to $500. This of course was before I knew of the magical potion SeaFoam which I now run through the bike a few times a year and of course put in when she goes into hibernation. My brother has a 97 1500 and he has well over 100,000 miles on it, again, with no problems other than general maintenance.
  6. Add me to the list voting for this one. While we are on the topic of Honoring our Law Enforcement members, found this last week on facebook, thought it was very nicely done. https://youtu.be/Mp03eKouOiY
  7. Current prices here 20 miles south of Boston are between $1.889 - 2.199 per gal. The most I've paid per gal since the first of the year is $2.079. Prices bottomed out here the first week of March when I filled up for $1.299 / gal. It was kind of like being back in the late 90's for a few weeks!!
  8. Hey all, I just wanted to post publicly how much I appreciate this forum and all the members here. I have learned so much by reading through the years and years of excellent posts and I am so grateful for all the knowledge that is available here. Without this group I would never have had the confidence to attempt a clutch upgrade, or ignition bypass, or any of the several other projects that I've done over the past 5 years. I hate taking my bike to a shop to be worked on, one because of the outrageous cost of shop time now, and two, because it seems that no matter what you have them do, it is seldom done to the level that you personally would like to see. My 05 RSV has the "click" coming from the splines of the final drive, when I had tires put on last spring I took in the printout from the tech section and asked them to please make sure when the wheel is off they greased the hell out of the splines. They wouldn't even look at the papers. I should have walked out then and gone elsewhere, but there are so few options around here for Yamaha service. I have a friend with a lift, so I think after my trip next week to NY I will be spending a day at his house, with my laptop, and taking the wheel off and greasing the splines myself. I've never taken a wheel off, but reading the tech section here I am not afraid of doing it, in fact, I'm kind of looking forward to backing into the garage when I get home that day and not sounding like there's a baseball card in my BMX bike spokes. So, a heartfelt Thank You to everyone here for sharing what you have and listening to my novice mechanic questions and answering them honestly and with the patience of a teacher. Hoping to make it to MD in Ohio next year, it just wasn't in the cards this year. Joe
  9. I was just looking at Amazon to pick one of these up and do it myself when I saw this review! Made me think about how you guys have installed this, if this isn't installed to a switched power source it will always be on. Not sure what kind of draw it would have, but I'm sure it could kill the battery if the bike was parked for an extended stay. Just something to think about: Warning - Unsuitable for Constant 12v Source - Parasitic Battery Drain Risk, March 30, 2016 By Edgar Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: JL Audio MBT-RX Bluetooth Audio Receiver (Electronics) The product description omits a material fact which could put your car battery at risk of being drained. The receiver does not enter low power mode after disconnecting from a bluetooth source. This is not necessarily an issue if the receiver is connected to an ignition source or accessory source. Why? Because the power to the device is cut once you remove the key from the ignition. However, if the receiver is connected to a constant or quasi-constant (e.g. sleep mode disables power) source, it could drain the battery. I discovered the above issue shortly after installation in my foreign car. I tapped into the 12v cigarette lighter in my arm rest console. The cigarette lighter is a quasi-constant power source. It remains on until the car enters sleep mode (which occurs several after ignition source turned off, and power draw is below a certain threshold). The cigarette light socket was ideal because of its close proximity to the AUX port. I took the key out of the ignition, locked the car with the remote, and went out of bluetooth range for about an hour. I was surprised to find that the receiver automatically connected to my phone when I came back in bluetooth range. My car was unable to enter sleep mode because of the high power drain from the receiver.
  10. It should work just fine inside the fairing. I have a bluetooth receiver hanging on the wall of my garage connected to my old pioneer stereo, I have outdoor speakers on the patio and I can walk around the back yard with my phone in my pocket while it's streaming. The range on that particular receiver is listed as 50ft in the manual, but in actuality it is much greater than that, even through the garage wall.
  11. When I do this mod, I will use one of these connectors.
  12. I'll be doing this upgrade next weekend, hadn't thought of this before. Should the bike be in gear or in neutral before opening up the clutch?? Or does it matter? Thanks guys
  13. I remember following the thread you had up about the ordeal you went through to get the replacement. I saw these guys (http://www.nhproequip.com/pro-1200max-motorcycle-lift-package) up at Laconia a few years ago, I am saving my pennies, this looked like a quality piece of equipment in person. Hopefully will be picking one up later this year. Edited: Put the wrong link in post, that went to the ATV / Riding mower lift.
  14. Just ordered a set of those pouches on Amazon, now I just have to figure out what I can put in them to make the bike safer for me....you know.....so I can justify the purchase with the beautiful wife! LoL :rotf:
  15. Oh I like the looks of that a lot! Is it just attached to the mounting hardware for the shields? Could you have the bag on when the clear shield is up as well? Appreciate the info Joe
  16. Could you possibly post a picture of the bag you have installed? I finally got my baggershield put on in April and I'm very happy with it. I would like to see the bag you have, I'm very interested. Thanks
  17. That's some story!! Wow, after towing a travel trailer all over the east coast I learned real quick that big rigs aren't your friends on the road and to avoid them as much as possible. The wind they kick up, rain water off the road, vacuum they cause when blowing by you at high speed. I do my best to stay in front of them or well behind them.
  18. I have run Rotella T6 in my 05 since I got it about 6 years ago. I have never had a problem with it except that the motor always had something I would deem as a "knock" to it. Didn't matter what fuel I put in, she always just had a knock at idle. Started having clutch slipping last year and took some advice from the braintrust on here and switched my oil to Valvoline 4T 10W-40 full synthetic oil last week when I changed in hopes of helping my clutch a little (didn't help, still slipping, going to install the new clutch next weekend), but I did notice this weekend that the knock at idle is gone. Did several hundred miles this weekend with the wife and no knocking at all. So yes, I'm crazy because between oil, filter, and taxes I spent $60+ dollars on my oil change last week, but, my motor doesn't knock anymore! Just my
  19. Thanks for the advice, I'm not much more than a novice mechanic here, but I'm learning and this place sure does boost the confidence. You guys are so helpful and I know if I have a problem all I have to do is pop out here and I'll have an answer in just a few minutes.
  20. I'll be putting mine in as soon as I have the chance, it's sitting on the kitchen counter just waiting for me to do it. This post makes me want to go home and do it tonight!
  21. Love the color!!! Very nice looking scoot. I just did my rear shock a few weeks ago, went with a Hagon and am really happy with it so far. Now if mother nature would just get back on her meds and warm it up a little bit around here I'll get to ride it. Been cold and rainy the last 4 days, predicting the same the next 5. Feels more like November than May around here. I mean the heat is still on in the house! Next upgrade for me is the SkyDoc clutch upgrade. It's sitting in an envelope on the kitchen counter at the moment. I think I know what I'm doing this weekend.
  22. Wow, I am jealous! That looks like an amazing trip, I'll definitely be following along on the blog.
  23. Ok, I think you guys convinced me, I'm going to switch to the Valvoline Motorcycle Oil 4T Stroke Full Synthetic 10W-40 I already ordered the clutch, so I may just go ahead and change it out when it arrives as well. I'll have to think about this now.
