  1. As a front line worker at a major metropolitan health care facility, and a father with two young children at home, this is a very concerning development. I have contact with literally thousands of individuals every week, and have physical contact with a good number of those people. I am not in a position to be wearing exam gloves or precaution gowns, in fact, it would be very frowned upon by administration of the facility, we have to create a warm and welcoming environment, certainly not take into account the idea that someone might contract a life ending disease by simply shaking a hand or sharing a pen. I for one hope that the government takes this threat seriously and becomes very proactive in the handling of it. If they do not, I truly fear this may become an existential situation.
  2. It's just a fun show to watch. I have enjoyed it for several years and will miss it when it's gone. On another TV note, this Thursday Sept 11, the History Channel is running a new 2 hour documentary on the rebuilding of the World Trade Center, I'm very much looking forward to watching that.
  3. I agree, can I forward my mortgage bills to you for the next couple months? That sure would free up so saddle time for the wife and I!!! Again, thanks to everyone for chiming in, I really appreciate the advice you guys provide. I've learned a lot and have done a lot of my own work because of this forum!
  4. You guys are great! Thanks for all the input, I'm going to take a good look at them and as long as there is no apparent rot on them I'm going to have them put on.
  5. Thanks Gary, I expect to get some varied opinions and I'll read them all. I tend to agree with your line of thought, but wanted to hear someone else say it. At least I didn't ask what oil I should use!
  6. I bought a set of E3 tires for my baby in March 2011 from Jake Wilson just after I brought my new to me bike home from South Carolina. She came with Michelin Commanders on her and after riding her for a while I left them on and left the E3's on the shelf in the garage. Now it's time for a tire change, have a nail in the middle of my pretty worn out front Commander. I haven't even opened the packaging on the E3's yet to get to the date code, but given they are at least 3 years old, what are your opinions on putting them on the bike now. The prices have gone up considerably since I bought them and if I can avoid buying a new set I sure would like to. I'm in Massachusetts so the tires have seen summer temps in the garage in the high 90's to low 100's and winter temps in the teens to single digits. Not sure how this is going to affect them. Thanks for your input, as always, you guys are the best.
  7. What an awesome story, and those pictures!! :wow: My step son is in the Air Force in an intelligence unit out of the Otis Air National Guard Base here in Massachusetts. I have more respect than I can show on here for anyone willing to put on the uniform and stand up for the rest of us. Many prayers that your son stays safe and has a long and successful career!
  8. That looks like one heck of a trip! Enjoy, I'll be following along on FB, looking forward to some great pictures!
  9. Thanks Jeff! That's exactly what I thought, but I don't like trying things without asking!
  10. Hey all, I bought a little homemade trailer over the winter and finally got to test it out last week. The lights on the trailer wouldn't stay on consistantly. If I wiggled the connection the lights would come back on. The connector on the trailer end is very similar to the one pictured below. My question is if I remove the wires currently in the connector, make new connections inside the plug, and then put a couple drops of solder on each connection is it going to work and be more reliable than just sticking the wires into the blades again? I'm not exactly an electrician, but I can usually get most things done with a little direction. Thanks for your help guys http://www.cequentconsumerproducts.com/Products/images/Professional-Series-Insta-plug-Connectors.gif
  11. That was awesome! Thanks for sharing, and Merry Christmas to Everyone! :sleigh:
  12. Got this info from the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association today. Sharing as I know some of our members are on the Dark Side! MMA Safety Alert: Harley-Davidson recalls some 2014 motorcycles FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE On October 16, Harley-Davidson announced a voluntary recall of over 25,000 motorcycles spanning several models of it's 2014 touring and CVO (Custom Vehicle Operations) product lines. The Massachusetts Motorcycle Association (MMA) wishes to share with its members and all riders the specifics so they can spread the word to all those who may possibly be affected. Also, please note that the MMA will ensure that it's own 2014 Harley-Davidson raffle bike is also corrected under the recall. The voluntary recall requests the existing owners do not ride their 2014 affected models until they are inspected by a Harley-Davidson dealer and if necessary, corrected. The problem revolves around the 2014 model's hydraulic clutch system which may prevent the clutch from disengaging, resulting in an inability to properly slow the motorcycle. The specific details, including the models affected, are outlined in the Harley-Davidson press release below. To make it easier for riders to recognize their own motorcycles or those of their friends and family, the effected motorcycles are: FLHTCU (Electra Glide Ultra Classic), FLHTK (Ultra Limited), FLHTP (Electra Glide Police), FLHX, (Street Glide), FLHXS (Street Glide Special), FLHRSE (CVO Road King), FLHTCUTG (Tri Glide Ultra), FLHTKSE (CVO Limited), FXSBSE (CVO Breakout), and FLSTNSE (CVO Deluxe). For more information, please contact your Harley-Davidson Service Agent or SafetyDirector@MassMotorcycle.org. ### http://www.MassMotorcycle.org MMA 2014 Harley-Davidson Bike Raffle Tickets are available NOW! There is a limit of only 2500 being sold, so Click Here to purchase yours! Have you renewed your MMA Membership? Click Here to renew or join today! Harley-Davidson Press Release: Harley-Davidson (NYSE: HOG) is acting quickly to address potential safety issues by voluntarily recalling certain 2014 Touring motorcycles equipped with a hydraulic clutch system that may pose a safety issue for riders and/or passengers. The recalls include a Do Not Ride notice to owners and a Do Not Deliver notice to Harley-Davidson dealers until the motorcycle is fixed. “The safety of our customers is our highest priority,” said Tony Wilcox, Harley-Davidson General Manager of Motorcycle New Product Delivery. “We have identified potential safety issues and are moving quickly to notify our customers and dealers. The inspection and repair of these motorcycles is extremely important, so it’s critical that our customers with affected vehicles contact their dealers immediately. We apologize for this circumstance. The company is committed to correcting the issues and providing customers with the quality experience and service they expect.” The recalls affect 25,185 Touring motorcycles, models FLHTCU, FLHTK, FLHTP, FLHX, FLHXS, FLHTKSE and FLHRSE, and 3,861 Softail® CVOs and Trikes, models FLHTCUTG, FXSBSE and FLSTNSE, built between May 3, 2013, and Oct. 14, 2013. Some of these motorcycles may exhibit a condition in which the hydraulic clutch system may lose the ability to generate enough lift to disengage the clutch. If the clutch does not disengage as intended, the rider may have difficulty slowing or stopping the motorcycle, which could result in an accident. Harley-Davidson has initiated these recalls to correct the affected motorcycles. The company is taking the additional measure of issuing a Do Not Ride notice to riders given the potential safety issues. The company wants owners of affected motorcycles to contact an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer immediately to arrange for an inspection. The dealer will pick up, inspect and make the necessary repairs at no cost to the owner. The repairs have been identified and should take less than one hour. Although the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration is closed as a result of the partial government shutdown, Harley-Davidson is proceeding with these voluntary recalls consistent with NHTSA’s process. About Harley-Davidson Motor Company Harley-Davidson Motor Company produces heavyweight custom, cruiser and touring motorcycles and offers a complete line of Harley-Davidson motorcycle parts, accessories, riding gear and apparel, and general merchandise. 13. I bought my 05 RSV 3 years ago next month from a Motor Officer in South Carolina. I drove down to get it and dragged her home in a trailer. When we got home I didn't give any thought to the tire pressure, I had bought the bike from a police officer who had been riding for many years, so I assumed the tires were good. Got home and was so excited to go for a ride with my bride, we went out and put close to 100 miles on the bike and I hated every minute of it. I described it to friends that the bike handled like a cement truck, just wouldn't turn at all. Turns out the front tire had a whopping 8 lbs of pressure in it. It appeared fine to the eye, but man did it handle like dog crap. What a difference 28 more lbs made! I Love my bike! Check the pressure at least once a week now, and always before riding two up. Better safe than sorry. Glad you guys are ok, hope your back on two wheels soon!
  14. I'm getting my test ride a week from today! I am really looking forward to it, and will for sure be reporting back here what I find.
  15. I knew you guys would come through with some great ideas! I'm stuck at work all day today, but it's off to advance auto tomorrow for some Evaporust and PB blaster. I'll keep you updated on my progress, and I know, this thread won't really be any good until I get some pictures up, I'll work on that tomorrow too!
  16. Dragged my old 93 Virago out of the shed at my parents house yesterday and am starting the process of getting her running again. She has been sitting for 11 or 12 years now and is going to take a pretty good deal of work to get roadworthy again I'm afraid. If the whole project goes as good as it has started, it should be done in 5 or 6 years! I know she needs the carbs done, there was a stuck float when she got put away all those years ago, so I imagine they are awful right now. Gonna need new fluids all the way around, tires, plugs....and who knows what else. First problem I have encountered is the gas cap is stuck in place. The key lock will not turn at all, I've forced it as much as I'm willing to for fear of breaking the key. I imagine there has to be a trick to doing this, but I have no idea what it might be. I'm sure I'll be looking for a lot of help / advice over the next few months so thanks in advance and sorry if I get annoying with the questions. I am by no means a "mechanic" but have accomplished so much with the help of the folks on here and the tech forums! I'm confident I'll get this bike back on her wheels, just may take me a little while!
  17. Yup, would love to see some pics of the bike with no shield
  18. That's really nice looking! Great Job!
  19. Looks like a great time! Hope I'll make it out there one of these years. My inlaws are in Dayton, OH, I think I may be able to use that to my advantage to get the wife to make the trip. "Come one Honey, we can stop and see Mom on the way home!" LOL Thanks for sharing
  20. What a great rescue story! They are really good looking puppies, boggles my mind how some one could be heartless enough to just dump them on the side of the road like that. I kind of wish I lived a little closer, I might have been able to make the wife angry by adopting a new fur baby!!
  21. Thanks for clarifying, off to the tech section for instructions then out in the garage I go!
  22. What type / brand of antifreeze would you all recommend for an 05 RSV? Thanks for the input Joe
  23. I had the same feeling after putting my H-D pipes on that had been drilled out. I solved the problem by buying a set of used Barons Nasty Boys from a fellow member on here and man am I happy. Glass Packs was the first thing that came to mind when I heard it running after the install.
  24. Great news guys, thanks for your help! I'll go order a couple of plugs from Yamaha and get him back on the road!
