  1. Thanks for the idea, but yes, I've used the Rotella T-6 synthetic oil in her since I got her. She's got just under 35,000 miles on her and really hasn't given me any trouble at all.
  2. Thanks for the help! I just ordered the full upgrade kit from Earl. Hopefully it will get here soon and I can get it all taken care of before I head off in June. Does his kit eliminate the need for that little wire in there or will I have to replace that? You mentioned I may have scorched the discs and steel plates a little....should I consider ordering a new set of steel plates too or will the new discs be ok?? The steel plates are relatively cheap, so if you guys think it's in my best interest to replace them, I'd just assume do it all now instead of having to pull it all apart again in a few months. Thanks again everyone!
  3. This is great! I'm absolutely going to use this video! Thanks for the link
  4. Ok guys, I've been mostly a lurker here for the past 5 years or so, but have started to get my $12 out of the site over the past few weeks with all kinds of questions and good advice coming from you guys! So thanks for everything so far, and I'm hoping to get some more good advice now about my clutch. Once a year in June I pull a pretty heavy trailer on a group camping trip, about 500 miles round trip. Last year as we were running out the Massachusetts Turnpike, we had just pulled out of a rest stop and merged into traffic on a pretty good uphill grade. When I kicked the bike into 4th gear and got on her a little bit it felt to me that the motor was winding up but the bike wasn't getting any of the power to the wheel. I am far from an expert, but I have put a lot of miles on several different bikes and have never had this sensation before. Was this my clutch slipping? Rode for the rest of the season and never experienced this again. Didn't think to much of it, until the other day. Got out with a buddy on his 30 year old new to him Goldwing 1200 and he decided to stretch her legs a little bit when a traffic light turned green. I didn't realize he was going to do this, and when I finally figured out what he was doing I got onto the throttle pretty hard, and had the same sensation as I had felt last year on the highway, only in third gear this time. Having said all that, my June trip is coming up pretty quickly here, and if I'm right about what the problem is, I think I want to do the clutch upgrade before I leave. Can anyone offer some advice as to what I need to replace, I've read people doing all the plates and springs, others just doing the spring, and I'm not sure what I need to do to fix my problem. I really like the feel of the stock clutch, so if I can keep that and rectify my problem I'd love to. Sorry to be so long winded, thanks in advance for your help again.
  5. Thanks Fool. Any suggestions on helping get the hot air / cool air exchange on the housing? I wasn't aware that I needed to do this. And I don't want to burn up the bulb. Thanks again
  6. Just upgraded to the Pathfinder LED headlight yesterday! Wow is this light bright, very pleased with the upgrade. Want to make sure I was correct leaving the rubber boot off the back of the new light. I don't think it would fit over the fan on the back of the light, but just want to make sure I'm right. I taped the connection between the light and the bike. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Just replaced mine at 34,600 with an aftermarket
  8. Thanks guys, I'll look up the torque settings then check the bolts.....with my history though I'll be SHOCKED if it's as easy as this!! LoL Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. She's got just under 35,000 miles on her. Any thoughts on how scary will it be for a novice to try and change the valve cover gasket? Thanks for the reply
  10. Hi guys, I noticed this for the first time late last summer on the left side of the motor, cleaned it up without really investigating it, and kind of forgot about it because I hadn't noticed any change in performance or mileage or oil level. Yesterday when changing the rear shock I had the bike on the lift at eye level and noticed it again. This time it was on both sides instead of just the left side like last year. Again, haven't noticed any change in oil level or performance of the bike. Any ideas offhand where this might be coming from or where I should start looking? I'm a very novice mechanic, but have gained a lot of confidence doing most of my own work with the help of this forum. I'm hoping we can figure this out and not to have to take it to someone else to work on. I hate the idea of some one else wrenching on my bike, I just don't have any faith in anyone. Thanks in advance for any help.

  12. Thanks for the replies guys, got it done yesterday in a little over 30 minutes! This forum is such an excellent source of information for me. I never would have attempted this before, the knowledge on here really gives me a confidence boost and the feeling I get after doing something like this is so satisfying. Thanks again!
  13. Hi Guys, Going to be replacing my stock rear shock with a Hagon on Sunday, wondering if anyone knows what size socket I need to remove the nut holding the schrader valve on? I know it's big, just not sure how big. Also, all i need to remove is the side cover, as well as the rear passenger floorboards and mounts in order have access to the top nut / bolt on the shock, correct? Want to make sure I have everything I need in advance so I can get this done then get out riding. Going to be 70 on Sunday here! As always...thanks for the help!
  14. I will use the Gas Buddy app when I am traveling, quickly helps find the cheapest gas in the area, can search by price, grade, diesel, or distance. Has saved me a lot of money when I am on the road out of state and not familiar with the area.
  15. Only problem I had when I upgraded my personal laptop from 8 to 10 was my wifi would not stay connected no matter what I did. Changed power save settings to keep network controller from going to sleep, changed my network settings on router from hidden to not hidden, this perplexed me for weeks. Finally after searching forever I found someone who said they had to roll the driver back on their network card, I did that and poof, I'm connected and it holds the connection now. Now my only problem is that I have to manually connect to the network each time I power up the machine. It seems to forget the network even though I tell it to "connect automatically" every time I manually do it. Other than this one hiccup, I have to say I like it so far. Seems a little less clunky than Win 8 did.
  16. Wow Puc, so generous of you to offer this for all of us. I have to say there isn't a machine out there that I'd trade my 05 RSV for. So if you wouldn't mind helping me out with a new paint job for her and maybe a time out camper to pull behind her the wife and I sure would be grateful! I'd like to say we'll be able to make it out to share a hot dog with you and the rest of the crew, but somehow I don't see that happening this year.
  17. Would love to see some pics of this meter, installing one is on the list of things to do this winter
  18. I'm on the South Shore, not going to be doing much pleasure riding over the next few months, just not going to have the time with work. But, I'd love to meet some fellow Venture lovers later in the spring to ride with. Keep me in mind if you put anything together
  19. Wow, let me see what I can give you to look into for destinations: The Kancamagus Highway is a great little ride, not very long but very scenic in NH The Kanc Acadia National Park in Maine is a very beautiful National Park on the Maine coast. Acadia NP The Mount Washington Auto Road is in my opinion a must. It is a challenging ride, but wow, nothing I've ever done on two wheels has compared to it yet. Mount Washington Auto Road This site has a lot of rides already planned out for you, for all 50 states and around the world. Best motorcycle roads in the world Hope this helps you out a little bit. Sounds like you have had quite the adventures over the years. I hope to be able to say the same of my travels someday.
  20. I just bought one of the baggershield screens during the black Friday sale they had. Can you share some of your concerns with the shield, I'm curious to hear them. Thanks Joe
