I would think it is more likely the shock. I had a noisy one on my last bike and shortly after it started leaking. Was replaced under warranty for the leak but it fixed the squeak also. There are several pivot points in the linkage at the shock and these are easy to access and lube so I would start with them. Having said that I just finished cleaning and repacking my swing arm bearings. Just like my last bike there is very little grease in them from the factory. There are just two - one on each side. I did this just in the interest performing the routine maintenance but especially since I was aware how Yamaha skimps on the grease. Factory recommended lube interval is 24,000 km so I can see the dealer wanting to charge you for the repair due to lack of maintenance assuming you hadn't performed this. On the subject of scheduled maintenance and bearings, two weeks ago I pulled the triple tree off to clean and repack the steering head bearings. Just like the swing arm bearings they have very little grease from the factory and also are due at the same time as the swing arm.

I believe the concern is where on the bike will there be an additional stamping of the VIN number. I just checked my service manual and it only shows the one location on the neck. It also shows a model label on the left portion of the frame under the rider's seat. It only states model at this location, not serial.

gggGary. If you need help with a carb sync, I live in Madison part time and can give you a hand.

You can buy a cheap charger to wire into the bike inside the fairing and run the cord up to the handle bar for no dead battery worries. I used one of Steve's (@M61A1MECH) harnesses to tee into the 12V wire to the fairing plugin.

How long has it been since you sync'd the carbs? That usually takes care of backfiring

I added a fuse block under the rear of the fuel tank. It will hold up to five fuses and is maybe 4 inches long and a little over 1 inch wide. It has a clear plastic cover that makes it maybe two inches tall. There was room behind the air inlet plastics. There was no need to mount it.

If hydro lock is suspected you should remove the spark plugs and try cranking it over. With the plugs removed hydro lock will be relieved and the fuel will spray out of the spark plug holes as the pistons come up to TDC

Regarding 3D printing: There are companies printing with metal. The plastic used in the "at home" 3d printers may have trouble with heat and fuel.

Agree on the braces. If those front guards move much they break the lower fairings. And they do move without much pressure

I had 4-2-4's and they are loud. I liked them but they were too much for my wife. I sold them and switched to the Harley takeoffs which were free and I am happy with them. Just enough rumble and after making the bracket and purchasing a couple of chrome clamps were really easy to install.

There was a tornado a half hour drive north of my house and no damage here. Still waiting to hear from a co-worker that lives near the worst of the damage.

Guy working the Yamaha booth yesterday at the International Motorcycle Show in Chicago said this year in "June" when asked if he had any knowledge of a new Venture. When asked what engine can be expected he said "they aren't telling us". Do I believe him about June? No. But thought I would share anyway

A couple of batteries ran it and a few drops of some kind of oil kept it from seizing. If I dug deep enough in the attic I may even still have it from probably 50? years ago.

Yep, it should come out the left side. Make sure the wires and/or the holders are no longer attached
