  1. Hi guys, It's been a bit since I have posted. I have a problem with my footpegs. I have a pair of Kuryakyn 1" offset footpegs for my highway bars. The problem is I can't seem to get them tight enough. The minute I put my feet on them they spin. Anyone have an suggestions. I tried tightening them real good. Just can't seem to get it tight enough. Thanks for the help Christopher
  2. Just a thought... what do people think of using shrink tubing or some sort of sealant on the torn boot? Is this a suitable fix or should I move forward with a replacement?
  3. Ok so I need to make a change with the windshield. Currently stock height. Right now, I look through it. its about 3 inches too high (forehead height). I dont mind seeing through it. Although I would like to be able to sit up to see over it in rain. So I was thinking of a shorter shield. Im hesitant though because of the wind buffetting on the back of my helmet. It gives me a headache. Now I am thinking taller. Should I go taller or shorter to solve the buffeting? Will a vent help with the buffetting? Thoughts appreciated.
  4. Ok... So I did the Seafoam with no change. So i pulled the carbs. Cleaned the carb/jets and reset the float levels. Some of the jets were completely plugged. The floats were all set way too high (Thanks Goose for the post). Everything else was good. While putting it back together I found an electrical plug that was disconnected. It was to the coil for the right front jug. My problem found! I still have some tweaking to do, but it sure runs sweet now.
  5. Got a problem. Been diagnosing my engine problems and found a badly torn spark plug boot on the right front cylinder. Must have happened with previous owner. Do I have to replace the whole coil or can I replace the wire/cap?
  6. Two of the plugs were black. The front 2. Also, I did a cold temp check. After 10 minutes the front cylinders were 85-100 degrees. The back cylinders were around 300. Im guessing that aint normal?
  7. Thanks for the input. The bike has 5600 miles on it. i bought it at 4800. Its a 2011 (originally sold the same year) so it probably has been sitting a while. There are small indications that it was stationary. Ran sea foam through it. Not much change. The carb sync modestly helped performance. Doesnt seem to be leaking. No vacuum leaks that I can find. it definately does not pull the front wheel up.... it almost stalls in first gear, feels like its taking off in second.
  8. Hey gang... This bike is frustrating me. I replaced the plugs and sync'd the carbs. Plugs were fouled. Looked rich. I turned the screws in to 2 turns out (Was at 2 1/2). I rode 120 miles yesterday and I got an underwhelming 26 mpg. (15 miles at 75mph; rest under 60mph). So I used a heat gun and checked the cylinder temps. All the same around 220 at the time. It seems to be firing on all cylinders. At the same time, first gear has no torque and I wondered if it was the nature of the bike. Now I think something else is going on. I wish I had a comparison to know how they are supposed to run. My comparisons are a Road Star which is Vtwin and a Valkyrie (Boxer 6). I don't know what to do with it at this point. Suggestions? Do you think a 2011 needs a carb rebuild already?
  9. So, I synced my carbs today and it took care of a majority of my problems with afterfire. I am pretty sure it hadnt been synced since it was assembled. Had a tough time getting the plugs and hoses off and it was way out of sync. I think the rest of my problem is exhaust related. I noticed that my stock mufflers have 2 holes on the bottom that vent alot of exhaust. Is this normal? I also think I have a leak on the right side junction.
  10. Hey, Larry! Thanks for the offer! I may take you up on it after I try some of the things mentioned here. I will keep you posted.
  11. Thanks for the info! I only need to choke for a few minutes for a cold start. I need the choke far longer on the Roadstar. I purchased a carbtune and will sync it as well. My guess is that it hasn't been sync'd in 6 years. I am planning to work on this this weekend. I need to do an oil change very soon and will add a little seafoam to that for a hundred miles. No warranty on the bike. Sold the first time in 2011. It only has 5000 miles on it and it has been sitting for a couple years. Suggestions for sealing an exhaust leak? Right side (sitting on the bike) at the junction point.
  12. Giving it some thought. I have to work it out with the ol' lady. Are non-Royal Stars welcome? Also, there are some nice roads down your way that I want to try out.
  13. Hey gang! Two questions. First, I purchased my RSV a couple months ago. Its a 2011. Its been sitting for 3 or 4 years. I changed the tires and gave everything a once over. Ran some Seafoam through it. The problems... bad backfiring, low gas mileage (26-28), and slow throttle response. I am going to pull the plugs and take a look. Thought I would shim the needles. Considering a jet kit. Its 100% stock. My question is what are your thoughts on shimming and on Ivans check kit? Should I rejet or does it cause more problems than its worth? Second, what is maintenance day? Does maintenance actually occur there?
  14. That saddle is hilarious! Lol. Dennis, I will take you up your offer. Thank you very much! Any idea how much shipping is to Michigan (49004)? Christopher
