    has anybody else tried this? I bought 1st gen clutch basket off of e-bay a week ago, all excited when it arrived. Only to find out it was damaged in shipping. One of the crowns on the basket broken off. Worked a deal with sender got some money back, ordered another one should be here tomorrow.

    this is the place for fooling around, not in the tech forums. I have a limited amount of time to spend digging through all of the FUNNY comebacks to try to find what I am looking for. Last night was the first time I have ever looked in this forum. There are only three forums that I look at, Ebay links, 2nd gen tech and classifieds. If I wanted to run my mouth this is where I would do it. Not in the tech forums where people are trying to find useful information. I have gleened alot of knowledge from alot of the people on this forum. Like most things in life a few can make it hard on the majority. I will probably never come to this forum again, the other 3 are my main interest.

    When I get on the 2nd gen tech forum, I don't need or want a bunch of smart #ssed 1st gen remarks I haven't even opened that forum 1st gen stuff. I am looking for usefull information not blah blah blah stuff. thanks

    Have appointment for next week, will let you know what they think the problem is. The mileage deal very flat central Iowa. Had a 5 speed car years ago, got better mileage in 4th instead of 5th at regular cruising speeds 55-65. Seemed like when you shifted into 5th you had to press the footfeed down farther to maintain the same speed? I think this may be similar

    I told the service mgr about the forum, and all that was said about I basket. He siad that the whine was definatly not clutch related. He had not listened to my bike at all. Am supposed to make an appointment for them to run a couple of tests on the bike. Then they will talk to Yamaha. Unrelated I have been running in 4th gear 60-70mph getting around 42-44mpg. Running 5th gear same speeds same route to work 30 miles one way 38-39mpg.

    Went to my local dealer to transfer warranty, no problem there. Asked service mgr about whine, he agrred that it was anoying. Asked him about I basket he said that at their shop the ONLY thing that got rid of whine was working on or replacing the rear end. Going to make an appointment to have it checked out. He also stated that Yamaha only replaces rear end in about 50% of the cases submitted.

    First I would like to thank the guy who asked if I had the lower cowlings off. I synced the carbs last night, rode today no better. On the test ride held my hand over left air box opening bike immediatly ran better. Came home took two shop rags folded in half and taped over front of air boxes one each side. Bike now runs great. Either forcing to much air or creating a vacuum and starving the carbs of air.

    cowlings are off waiting to buy a set. can't think of what that would do for driveability?

    I think I have hit rev limiter in first three gears.

    bought it wrecked laid down anyway don't know how long it sat. Seafoamed twice no good. had carbs off and cleaned they looked good. have not synced them yet. felt the pipes all getting hot now. cleaned the plug caps no good. it seems to run real good through 1st and 2nd after that popping and backfiring. idle seems fine as does revving it up while parked.

    I just bought a 06 rsv midnight, 5000 miles, runs good first and second after that not so good. Anybody close to central Iowa who wants to show how to sync carbs thanks for the help.
