  4. Started riding late in life after my dad passed away...wanted to do things before that happened. Started with a Yamaha 1100 and sold it after a year. My wife did not like riding with me much as it was not comfortable for her. Wanted a RSTD with the V4 and never thought I would need anything else. Ended up getting a nice deal on my 2nd Gen RSV and happy I got that. Took me several months to learn how to ride a V4 compared to a v-twin; now highway I'm in 3rd gear mostly (unless passing) and 4 lane is when I hit forth. The weight struggled early a few times not having my front tire completely straight; the 1100 was far more forgiving. Never dropped it but came close a few times. Comfortable at slow speeds but its still a pig and can do U turns and all. I have switched bikes with buddies (harley riders) but don't do it anymore. Mine rides way better in my opinion!! Looked at Goldwings but did not like the feet position, i can stretch out on mine. Looked at the new venture, if I would pull the trigger that would be the bike for me but not spending the money. Stay with it; the two of you will become close friends!!
  5. First test complete. Put 195 miles on and they performed well. Still playing a little bit with the settings for optimal sound (LOL, how many eye rolls did I just get). I chose them because of they were made with polypropylene woofer cone with rubber surround which is exactly what each of the marine speakers started with in their description and they were less expensive then marine speakers. I'm willing to pay more for red wine, rye whiskey, beer and motorcycle oil but went economical on the speakers that had good reviews. Did not treat with water repellent; just letting them go. Also, someone installed them on his KL1100 and was happy with them at least in town. First ride was a success...thanks for checking in!!
  6. Finally had it with my speakers on my 06 RSV. They were tolerable up until the last ride where they sounded horrible. Ordered the Rockford Fosgate R14X2 from Crutchfield after much research. Just finished with the install and I will tell you sitting in the driveway with the motor reved they sound way way better then the factory installed Clarions. Taking a few days vacation this week and hoping to hit the road (my 5 day road trip was delayed but that's a whole other story) and I will report back for anyone looking at upgrades. Yes I know they are 4" and limited because of size but something is way better than nothing!! Linl: https://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/r14x2/

  11. Thanks for sharing. Thoughts and prayers sent for a speedy recovery!!
  12. Not gonna like the Goldwing. Try a RSV and I will say the Star Venture was quite comfortable.
  13. I use Redline 22W50 and believe that the bike runs better and quieter with it.
  14. Now that's funny...I have been looking for a 73 Malibu as that was my first car. Nothing special about it but it was mine. Long story short it got totaled one night when a drunk pull out it front of us...of course I was not driving at the time...oops...thank God my dad calmed (cooled off) before I got home. For a factory stock car it could get down the line...not that I raced anyone
  15. Cedar Rapids...been awhile since we had a meet and greet in Iowa...probably about time we have one...will look at the calendar.
  16. Test road the Transcontinental Friday afternoon. Matter of fact it was the wife who made me go. I have been thinking about it but not wanting to go in case I liked it. I will admit to watching the unveil at home on my PC and was disappointed that it was not a V4. We all try to make these our own and its easy starting off with something that you don's see very often. But that being said I have always liked the looks of the new bike...YAMAHA, YOU SHOULD HAVE ROLLED IT OUT 6 YEARS AGO!!! I'm afraid that you missed the market. The TC was a very easy riding bike with plenty of power especially in the sport mode!! Handled well at low speed as well as on the highway doing 85!! I thought I was getting more wind (that's ok) and the stock seat needed to go. Did not play with the stereo a whole lot as I was enjoying the ride. If ever there was a bike to replace mine that was it. Still thinking about it as mine is bought and paid for. These days I just don't seem to get to ride as much as I want and living here in Iowa; 6-7 months at best!! If you have a chance, ride one!!
