  1. Hello Everyone: I did speak with my wing riding friend that lives in Whitewood SD. I asked his advice on a location for a rally. He indicated if he were planning such an event in the Black Hills area he would consider the Elk View camp ground just down the road from him. I believe it mentioned by another member in a previous post. Tony described the location as having 50 rental cabins for those that do not tent like me, as well as numerous tenting campsites. I have not had time to do anymore research as of yet. Great ideas in regards to next year being the 75th with high attendance expectations?? My preference would be a late June or early July time frame to avoid the chaos of Sturgis. We met a few Canucks in Custer over the 4th of July this year and had a blast!!! Great riding with little traffic. More investigation is needed if this area is to be considered. The other locations of MO and CO sound wonderful also.
  2. Another Aussie couple are also planning to be here in the states during the same time frame
  3. Welcome to the site. I am happy with my Bubs.
  4. A few years ago a dealership did a brake inspection on my front brakes and forgot to tighten the front caliper bolts. I discovered it after only a few miles. Lost the bottom bolt and reflector kept the top bolt from falling out completely. Not happy. No one but me has touched my bike since.
  5. Thanks everyone: we had. Nice trip to SD. Caught the last few days of the rally. Great memories!!!
  6. Birthday wishes for you from Custer SD this morning.
  7. We arrived last night about dark. First late afternoon early evening trip. Beautiful!! Amazing day of riding. Johnson Siding for breakfast. Memo Road to Vanocker Canyon to Sturgis. Rode in rain on the way back to Custer. Later cleared. Sunny evening. Great meal. Ice cream at Purple Pie Place this evening. Spotted a 2009 RSV from Nova Scotia parked at Cattleman's restaurant as we were headed back to our motel. Great day!!!
  8. Don: Thanks for the suggestion. The dealer did not install the driving lights on a relay. I too suspect the source of the issue is in the driving light circuit also. Brought on by the rough road. It will likely reappear. I have since learned about the relay install and may consider that if it does. I will keep looking for the source to the problem. Thanks for the suggestions. This site rocks!!!
  9. Hello: I removed my seat on Saturday. Checked battery connections and coolant level just as a precaution before our annual Run to Sturgis. Used my battery tender overnight. Checked tire pressures and inspected anything else my heart desired. Put the bike away on Sunday. Got the bike out last night. Did not notice anything wrong. Rode west and partnered up with fellow VR member Patrolman 46. He wanted to change oil in his RSV. Met at his rural workshop. Had to ride a few slow miles on a washboard gravel road to get there. Pulled in the overhead door and went to work. Finished quickly as rain approached. When I went to leave I noticed my Headlight and taillights did not work. Had dash lights, brake light and Horn. Not sure when the headlight quit. I feel I would have noticed it when I left my storage unit, but the sun was blasting in to my west facing unit when I backed out. Possible I could have missed it? I suspect the rough road was more likely the cause? Found a burnt 15a fuse? I inspected the wiring under the seat for a wear or pinch spot as well as the dealer installed driving lights. No problem found. Replaced the fuse and chose to ride 20 miles home with only the stock headlight just incase the issue is in my driving lights. The trouble shooting delayed my ride home and put me in early darkness. Just wanted to be on the safe side. Purchased mire fuses and stashed them in my side bags. I rarely ride in the dark, but curious to see if the issue returns. First real issue since so purchased the bike in 2007.
  10. Lee and I are celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary today. Planning a two night get away to the Custer SD area as we have the past several years. We enjoy riding together. I am so blessed. We make a great team.
  11. Sad. Our Son in Law is a wild land fire fighter based out of Saratoga WY. He and his other comrades have been to Fires in Idaho and Nevada so far this season. Has been gone most of this summer. Got home last week for two days. Currently in Idaho again.
  12. I live in a town of under 25k people. I am fortunate to know a lot of people I spotted a shiny 07 RSTD with intransit plates. Naturally I stalked them? Lol. Turned out to be a local couple that I have known for years at their work places but did not know they were riders until yesterday. They traded their 01 Vstar 1100 for a 07 RSTD with 15k miles. Showroom condition. The used bike dealer here had not even unloaded it yet. $6800 was the purchase price before the trade. A few add ons. Driving lights, battery tender, red accent lighting under the bags and a sweet set of arm rests attached to the stock passenger backrest as well as a drivers backrest. I invited them to join our VR family.
  13. Thanks for your input Bill. I admire anyone that has undertaken such a task. I only wish I lived in the Black Hills rather than. 4 hours south. I am checking with other members via text messages this morning to get their take on things.
  14. Great feed back. If something does not get decided upon in the next few days I intend to check with two other VR members near me that are currently in Custer taking in Bike week at this very moment to see if they would be willing to help coordinate a black hills rally for 2015.
  15. Hello Helmet: I am so honored that you took my advice and became a trial member. Impressed you posted so quickly. I can see that you are receiving helpful suggestions from several of the other members. Did your new to you 06 RSTD make those sounds before you added the lowering kit? Welcome aboard!!!
  16. Great discussions and ideas. As far as the Black Hills go, I prefer Custer SD rather than Surgis. Good riding all 4 directions on two lane roads. Great amenities. In my opinion the only direction out of Sturgis is south. Otherwise all you get is I-90 or flat lands to the north. We know the manager at the Holiday Inn personally. She went to school with our kids. We have experience with at least two other mom and pop motels that are great. I do not know of any VR members in the Black Hills area? Maybe that is why no one has stepped forward? I am 4 hours away not sure that would be beneficial? I do have a Wing rider friend that lives in Whitehead and he might be willing to lend his help? He has lived there for many years. That is what I can possibly offer.
  17. I enjoyed reading your update.
  18. Hello Everyone: I met a nice older couple yesterday when I stopped at their retirement apartment. We got on the subject of motorcycles after looking at pictures on their wall. The husband told me that in 1947 he bought a 1937 Indian Chief in Omaha for $400. He rode it back home 400 miles to the Western end of our state. Eventually sold it a few years later for $300. Fond memories of younger days. Made me smile.
  19. My pump hangs at 375'. 200' should not take them long. Hope you can still make it.
  20. If you choose western Nebraska. Let us know ahead of time. Always like to meet other members.
