SaberWing has Narcolepsy!
GAWildKat replied to StormRaven's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I may as well update this thread since Mike didn't. The horns had shorted out from the wires rubbing together and rubbing the insulation off. This caused the short for everything else. Mike has a new set of horns to replace the old horns, but hasn't gotten around to buying the wire yet. He has unplugged the horns and separated the bad wires for the time being. Tonight he changes the oil and replaces the starter before going to the b2's on fri. He's still planning to trailer the bike, but time is getting short. So you may see us there towing the bike or not. -
1st Gen Oil filter
GAWildKat replied to BlueSky's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Advance has the k&n filter for $14.99. I forget the part number but it can be ordered for the 1st gen. It's never in stock at my local store. But I get it in 2 days. I ordered one last wed and it was ready for pickup on fri. I read on the forums it's the preferred filter for both venture generations so I go with the mass experience on forums. Go in store if you can't find the k&n online. Hope it helps. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk -

You missed Annie at the 2011 Vogel. Mike was on his Volusia and had only been riding 4months at that point. We lost the group in front of us so we decided to ride into Robbinsvile NC and hope we found them somewhere on 129. Annie was directly behind us and was told to follow us so the group could find us down the road. Poor Mike got scared out his mind because he wasn't used to riding as hard or fast as Annie is on those curves and such. He finally decided she needed to take lead before his nerves got tthe better of him. To this day he still says riding in front of her was the most white knuckling time of his life lol. Yes Annie he's more terrified of your riding than my driving lol. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk

Need advise reparing cracked fairing
GAWildKat replied to ediddy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Eddie, I have plastic to fix on the 1st gen soon ish, wanna get together and hold a plastic fix party? I'll see if I can get Mike to ride to Albany (insert evil laugh here). Joe's right about the jb wield stuff for plastic, but if you want to keep a larger supply on hand, get plastex. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/606-493?utm_source=none&utm_term=adwords_labels%3DHardware%20and%20adwords_labels%3DTools&device=c&network=g&matchtype=&gclid=CLyglJWDgb4CFRQV7AodvRMAcw -

I bookmarked that for future reference. I think in this case it won't help him, but could be useful later for someone.

I asked him about it before I made it public here as he is not a VR member. He said she wanted it kept away from mutual friends we all have. Only myself and my husband have been told so far. I was allowed to make a plea for assistance on facebook again without directly mentioning her. I made sure when mentioning it places to keep mutual friends off the posts. I wasn't aware about the caregiver option but I will pass that along to him. Sadly last week she had surgery for a hip replacement and was told in recovery that she has stage 4 cancer. Even if our mutual friends were told about his needs and why not a one would do anything to assist him. (Yeah, I know, they aren't really friends) My husband and I owe him a lot and I'm tired of him never getting a hand up after all the times he paid it forward. This on top of him going through testing this week for cancer himself, along with his mother ill and such.

I second that! I can only hope Mike and I can have that many years together. Hope it's a wonderful day to take a bike ride!

Mike and I have a local friend that we've known almost as long as we've been together. Howard is the primary reason Mike rides now, in fact. And is our local guru when we need bike help that he can assist with teaching us. Yesterday he asked me to drop by to tell me something he doesn't want to mention on facebook. His exwife was diagnosed with cancer. Although neither came out a couple of yrs ago and said it, I think the divorce came as a result of both of them filing for disability at the same time. They are still very close. She's asked he come be with her as the cancer progresses as it is stage 4 and terminal. He lives on his SS check month to month and doesn't have a lot to spare. He's been known to drop everything for myself and others and while at this moment I don't have $1000 to spare to give him gas and hotel money on his way to Phoenix. Is there some way to help him? I don't think there's any veterans agencies that would help in this case but I'm not sure. I would love to be pointed in a direction. Howard will never ask for charity, but he will accept whatever I arrange because he knows I'm that stubborn! He doesn't yet have a timetable of when he needs to be in Phoenix, but I would like something in place in case he needs to pick up and go on short notice. Thanks!

I appreciate all the assistance for finding a carbtune we can borrow. I'm grateful we have choices in case someone has plans changed. We are grateful for all the help. TY Tricia

I wish Sat was free for us, Mike's finishing up those end of the semester projects and helping one of his profs with one of her master's lvl courses she's taking (ever try teaching a network admin how to program?) FYI, it doesn't work very well sometimes. If I thought I could afford the gas Sat, I'd meet you, oh well.

Mike needs to sync the carb on the bike. If someone can either mail one to me and I return ship it as soon as it's done I'd be ever thankful! Failing that, we plan to be at the B2s meet and eat if someone would kindly bring theirs along. Thanks guys!

I understand what you mean about the inseam problems! I'm 5'6" but I have a 30 inch inseam. My husband also has a 30 inch inseam....he enjoys when I get on the bike in the driver's seat and attempt to flat foot the bike...it ain't happenin! both feet dangle about 4 inches from the ground. One day...I'll ride a 1st gen and keep all the wheels on the ground and no damage to the bike...

I'll see if I can get him to take pics wed after work, if not, then Sat, I'll double check abt pulling fairing pocket and checking the back side of it too. I'll also check the audio control box. Mike's about ready to yank out everything and add his own audio system and music heh...almost ready to agree with him!
-
Can I kill a husband of mine? After all the discussion about the audio cables on the 1st gen here on the forums I FINALLY got him to pull the panel on the bike and let me see what was back there...during our discussion of what was there and what MIGHT be missing he then informs me the audio cable for the driver is under the seat tucked up neatly. We did clean up the connections to the cb and intercom, including the buttons, however the cb still scans without stopping. we both think it has to do with the driver's audio control box...it's definitely not waterproof and has been smashed prior to us getting the bike but I'd like thoughts on this? Thanks!
