  1. Thanks. Got it going again. The switch was bad apparantly. Took the switch off, straight wired it, and it started right up, so I guess i'll be looking for a new starter button. Thanks again.
  2. Ok, I have a problem. I go out today to go for a ride. Turn the ignition on, press the starter button, and nothing happens. The starter won't even click. When I rode last week, it was fine. I ended up working 70 hours this week and today was the first time i've been able to take it out. So, can someone tell me how to determine what the problem is. If it's the starter button itself or something between there and the starter. I thought the battery so I charged it up and still nothing. Thanks guys for the help.
  3. Thanks Earl! It has one mounting tab broken off. I think i'm gonna go ahead and get it though, just wanted to make sure it would fit properly since it's off a 93. Thanks again!

  5. Thanks guys. Yeah, I plan on repainting them. The problem with the ones I have now is whoever had the bike before used sheet metal and bondo and put all the pieces together. Problem is they didn't do a very good job and the bondo looks like crap. I have already bought the 2 side covers. I know it's gonna be hard to get good "unbroken" pieces, but anything right now. I can fix the mounting brackets (hopefully), and get them to stay on. So thanks for the help guys. Clint
  6. Hey guys. I'm looking for the 2 front upper fairings and the 2 front lower farings. I've been looking on ebay alot, haven't been able to find anything. If you guys have any spares laying around you'd be willing to sale, i'd really appreciate it. Thanks guys!
  7. Hey guys. Curious as to how I remove the front and rear fender. On the front it looks ok. Have to remove the bracket between the forks and then there are two bolts on each side that bolt into the forks. Is that all I need to remove to get the front fender off? As for the rear fender, I havent even taken a look yet. I'm painting the bike right now. I've already done the saddlebags, trunk, and the left side of the body. I had to buy a replacement piece for the right side so i'm waiting on it to get here. thanks guys!

  10. Well, i'm not sure if I need to bleed it or not. I have to press the pedal way down, way beyond where it should be, but I have brakes. Can I adjust the brakes using the threaded rod there behind the pedal? Thanks
  11. Hey guys. I'm curious as to wether or not this back rest will fit my bike. It's an 83 Venture. I know this ad says 86 to 93 but I know a lot of these parts are interchangable.   12. Thanks guys. Got the screw out with the drill. Filled up the resevior. Now all warning lights are out for the time being I don't actually think I need to bleed the brake lines. I have brakes, but I have to push the pedal waaayyyy down past where it should be. I noticied the threaded bolt at the back of the pedal. Can I adjust this to raise the brake pedal up? I hope this makes sense. thanks guys!

  14. Thanks to everyone for the help. All the problems I was having before are fixed for the time being and the bike is starting easily and running good. So here I go with the next problem. I have no pressure on the foot brake. I plan on bleeding the brakes tomorrow sometime to try to fix it. So if I have researched correctly, I need to bleed the rear brake caliper first, and then the left front caliper, correct? Then the right front. The only other thing I need some info about is the master cylinder lid on the front brake master cylinder. There are 2 phillips head screws holding the lid on. One of the screws is completely stripped and I can't get it out. What do you all think is the best way to get this thing out? Thanks everyone!
  15. Ok, so I saw the thread in the library about the battery bypass. I found what I think is the right wire. It's right behind the battery bow, and is white with a red stripe. Problem is the actual sensor is not there, it's been unplugged from the wire. The plastic connector is on the wire, but the sensor wire is missing. So am I looking at the right wire? And if so, how do I bypass it from there with the sensor wire missing? Thanks for the help guys.

  17. Well, shes starting good now. The starter is slow turning so I'm prolly gonna need a new starter soon. Question about the oil filter housing. I replaced the rubber o ring around the housing, and on the bolt. Now i'm leaking oil from the bottom of the housing. So what did I do wrong? Thanks guys!
  18. Ok, thanks guys. That makes sense then about the battery. I let it sit and idle for about 45 minutes. The temp gauge never moved from the very bottom way below the reading area. And i'm not sure it was running hot. The fan kicked on once that I know of, but I came inside. When I went out the fan was not running. When I turned the bike off, I could hear the water boiling. So, I don't know. Thanks again for all the help!
  19. Ok. So i cut the bike off, and it wont start back. It's like the battery is too weak, turning over slow. Now i don't know much about how a motorcycle runs. If it's like a car and has an alternator to keep the battery charged. If so, could this be the problem? Also, I think it may have ran hot. The temp gauge is broken apparantly so I really don't know if it was actually running hot. It was'nt smoking or anything like a car usually does. Maybe the thermostat needs replacement? Also, about the battery. The guy I got it from said it had to have a gel battery? I've got a regular ol' battery. Could this be the problem? I appreciate all the help given so far, and look forward to your responses!! Also, I may not be on for a few days. I work in Law Enforcement and go back to work this evening (Sat). I have to pull a double shift Sat and Sun, so i'll be on in before I go to work some, but then it may be Mon or Tues before i'm back on. thanks for the help again!!
  20. Ok, so I had the thread earlier about the fuel petcock. Got the fixed, the bikes running, so moving on to the next thing. I have an 83 venture. I paid $400 for the bike. The only other thing I tell is wrong with it so far is the foot brake. I know it also controls one of the front calipers. The problem is that when you press the pedal down, it stays, and you have to pull it back up. So any suggestions, tips, advice, etc., would be greatly appreciated. thanks for all the help earlier. Look forward to getting my bike on the road!!
  21. Cool, thanks. Guess What?? I GOT HER RUNNIN!!!! I drained all the fuel today, put in a new fuel filter, rigged the fuel petcock, put in new spark plugs, and put 2 gallons of premium gas in, charged the battery for the second time, and just went outside a few minutes ago, and got her to crank. It's sittin out there runnin now. Love that sound lol. thanks for all the help guys. looks like i'll be paying for regular membership and stickin around!

  23. Dang, my wife just went to bed. Well, gonna go shock myself now lol.
  24. Well, heres where i'm at now. Took the petcock off, not too bad. I just removed the right side muffler to get it out of my way, and used a long screwdriver to take it off. The thing was closed, so here's what I did. I took a drill to it and drilled out the closing insdie the petcock. Ran a new fuel line over to the filter. Put in a shut off valve right behind the fuel filter just in case I ever need too cut it off. Put in a new fuel filter, and hooked her up. I went ahead and checked the fuel pump, and when I turn the switch on, gas will shoot out of the pump, so it's working. SOOOOO, the thing will turn over, but still won't start. I already changed the spark plugs too. The battery is ticking me off though. It's a new battery. I charged it yesterday cause it seemed week. Went out this morning and put it in and the bike started easily till the fuel ran out, but that problem is fixed now I think. But now the battery acts like it's weak again. So I don't know if I bought a dud battery or if the bike is draining the battery somehow. i'm thinking that maybe the battery was just too weak to turn the engine and spark the plugs. I hope.... Anyway, how can I tell if i'm getting spark? Or if it's something else? Thanks again guys for all the help!
