  1. Ya know, I have to admit, the newer Spyders are a lot better than the first ones!! I was not comfortable on the first ones, but the new ones are better...
  2. I agree with you Steamer!! Whatever we agree on is OK with me, as long as we do not have to make a U turn to avoid the toll way again...
  3. Sorry my good friend!! Due to a miscommunication by the owner, it will be a week later. You could come up that week and catch an Elvis imitator perform on the stage...
  4. Woo Hoooooo!!!!
  5. There is a lot of this going around, I just found out about an hour ago the WNY NE Regional Rally dates are changing to one week later!
  6. Just so you know, all year 2nd Gen Venture will fit, '99 thru '13...
  7. I have two of those square relays mounted on that plastic pan in the rear area next to the frame with room to spare. Yup, I have additional lights on my trunk. and a 5 wire to 4 wire system converter, I drilled a hole just big enough to force the wires through and sealed it up with RTV. I used a 5 wire flat trailer connector with the connectors external to the trunk so that I can unplug and remove the trunk...
  8. The silver tape does not work as good as white paint. Silver is sort of a derivative of grey which is a weak black. Use the same paint they use on rubber auto bumpers, or plastic furniture...
  9. Odessey batteries have priced themselves waaaaay out of the market, so go with the Deka...
  10. OK normally they hammer out with a drift pin affair, but in extreme cases you can use a dremel tool with a metal cutting disc, and cut two slots in the race close together to remove a small arc out of the race and the rest will come out real easy! Do not be concerned if you accidentally cut into the frame piece a little, it will have no consequence to the new race...
  11. OK the very ext thing you want to do is buy yourself some white paint that sticks to rubber, and paint that black rubber bezel around the headlight white!! You will be amazed at the difference it makes!!! White reflects light, black absorbs it...
  12. With the fuses out, start looking for zero ohms to ground everywhere, and start unplugging things until the zero ohms goes away. Sorry, there is no stock common problem for what you are describing...
  13. Yah!! That Prairehammer is a biker's biker fer sure!!
  14. Yup, front tires on a trike wear out very quickly unless you ALWAYS travel in a straight line! Because a trike does not lean, every time you turn the front tire skids sideways long with turning the bike's direction, so they cup very easily! Also, oscillation is a common inherent issue with any trike! Ideally, if you could find a car tire to fit on the front it would cure a lot of the handling issues as what you need is a flat profile tire rather than a round profile when looking at it from the front. Unfortunately, finding the right size is impossible! You cold check into sidecar tires but once again finding the right size is very difficult without changing to a different rim size. Now, what we usually do is find a REAR tire in the appropriate size and mount them backwards (because of the thrust characteristics on the cords of a front tire vs a rear) so that the tire will wear a longer time, but even then the cupping becomes an issue. On my trike, a front tire lasted about one season before it was worn out, and with a rear tire I got 2 seasons out of it, and it still had plenty of tread but it had to be replaced because of cupping. Right now I am considering finding an 18" Stratoliner rim which is a direct bolt on and try to find an appropriate flat profile tire...
  15. Hmmmm, no English, and a Mexican cook as well! So, the downside of this is???
  16. Darn, Chuck, you beat me to it!! I'm looking to replace my 4 gauge setup with a Morgan...

  24. Welcome aboard!!! OK, this has been mentioned time and time again, the 1st gen MK1 ('83 - '85) brakes are anemic at best! There is a reason why they were redesigned in '86 with 4 piston calipers and electric anti-dive solenoids instead of the hydraulic ones. What you want to do is find yourself a set of front fork lowers from a MK2 and replace them, along with rebuilding the forks with new springs made by Progressive. That way you can bolt on a set of more efficient calipers from a Yamha R1 or R6 from the early 2000's. Replace those old rubber brake lines with a set of Stainless Steel jacketed lines that won't expand when you apply the brakes. You will want to replace your master cylinder with a MK2 as well as you will need the extra volume of hydraulic fluid delivered to the front caliper. Also, you do know that one of your front calipers is hydraulically linked to your rear brake I hope?? Some have de-linked them. The 1st generation Venture is a touring bike with the heart of a sport bike, as you are discovering they handle quite well!! The headlight could be anything from as simple as the bulb being bad, corrosion on the headlight connector, or a defective reserve lighting unit which is a black box on the front frame piece behind all the relays. The RLU detects if one of your headlight filaments, or one or two tail lights as well, are burned out, and it automatically switches on the headlight to the high beam and lights up a white "headlight" light on the dash. Other issues could be a problem with the cmu. Three is a detailed wiring diagram in the First Generation Tech Library, and there is a downloadable factory service there as well! There is also an owner's manual so you can familiarize yourself with all the features of your bike and how things are supposed to work!! Your issue with poor wet running is most likely water inside the case of your Transistor Controlled Ignition (TCI) unit. They are troublesome and impossible to buy new, but there ARE aftermarket units out there! The tach receives it's electrical information from the trigger pulse for the #2 coil primary, specifically the gray line. So, if it runs like it is missing and the tach quits, that is why! The issue could also be corroded connectors from the TCI. The TCI is located under the coil pack, many of us have relocated it to the top of the airbox to better protect it. The leads are long enough to allow for this relocation. You can take the cover off and bake it in an oven for a few hours at around 250 to 275 degrees to try to dry it out, then put a bead of dielectric grease or vasoline on the cover to help waterproof it. The problem being, there are 8 diodes on the PC board that physically deteriorate, a burn the whole circuitry out, and if they are not replaced can burn out the entire circuitry. Good luck, we ARE here to help!!
  25. OK, here we are in Tampa patiently waiting for tomorrow morning! Our friends who were supposed to meet up with us tonite both got sick, so we will stop over to their house on the way home on the 31st. So, it's down to the final checklist! I won't be able to post much over the next 21 days but will when I can! On I95 today heading into FL the count of bikes being trailer'ed vs bikes being rode was pretty even. The GPS sent us west before Jacksonville so we didn't get to see Datona this time around.
