  1. Hmmm, don't know Don. Bought 4" longer throttle cables from Buckeye. Went with 4" because I'm using Baron's risers along with Flanders bar and wanted to make sure I had long enough cables...
  2. Yup!! My first guess would be TCI, but you may have a problem with your pickup coils or the connections to/from them. There IS a downloadable factory service manual in the 1st gen read only technical forum... http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/firstgenmanual.pdf
  3. Can't view page without creating an account...
  4. This reminds me of waaaaay back in the day at the Buffalo Small Boat Harbor. I just about always saw this van, or was it a pickup, with a trailer hitch mounted on the FRONT bumper. Thought it, and the owner was just plain stupid!!! That is, until I saw it in action one day retrieving his boat and trailer from the launch site!! He had NO problem seeing where he was going to hook up the trailer, and absolutely NO problem with traction pulling it out!! Everybody else, me included, had problems getting traction on the wet concrete...
  5. Yes, pretty much all the stuff will fit!! The only issue is the difference in the TCI, and where the TCI gets it's vacuum advance information from. Regardless of the year there is a difference in the wiring harness between the Venture Standard and the Venture Royale. The dash is different which makes the wiring harness different between the '83 and the '84. The engine covers attach differently but can be made to work. There might be another minor difference or two but can't think of any at the moment..
  6. Hmmmm, Hannigan DID do a "Custom" job for me with the black on the body. I didn't spend the extra $1000 for the floorboards though, a decision that sometimes I'm glad I did, and sometimes I'm regret I didn't...
  7. Yah! You're right Carl, I was thinking about the master cylinder! My old one is a MK1 with the removable bags anyway. Haven't looked at that on mine since '09! Was sort of relying on memory, something at my age don't work no more...
  8. Until the NEXT Farkle comes along...
  9. Yeah, WHY!!!
  10. Ummmm, she comes up just a little higher than my neck...
  11. If you read his profile, it is an '89 Royale. The master cylinder reservoir is on the right side bolted to the frame a ways behind the brake pedal. You have to remove the saddlebag to access it properly. the reservoir sets above the actual master cylinder and is connected by a rubber hose. The Fill plug sets at an angle. Be VERY careful unscrewing the plug, many have broken the neck right off of the body. It should be filled about a 1/2 to 1" from the top. If you go to the 1st gen read only technical forum, there IS a factory service manual you can download..,. http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/firstgenmanual.pdf
  12. Hmmmmm, I seem to remember that green Monte Carlo with the waaaay oversized rims on them. Where was that taken??
  13. The usual fix for that on the MK1 is the Barnett Heavy Duty clutch springs...
  14. Yah!! Throttle cables are a slight PITA...
  15. There ya go!! That Heather is right on the ball!! The last set I bought was about 5 years ago so it looks like the prices haven't risen much...
  16. OK, OK!! You finally talked me into trying them!! just booked a room for Fri and Sat...
  17. Hmmmm, my bike is still in storage so I can't quick run out and check, but there should be a return spring in the body of the master cylinder that pushes the lever out, maybe yours is broken, or the pivot bushing for the lever may be worn...
  18. OK first, that "dampening" adjuster on the side of the bike is for the REAR shock only. Also, 21 lbs in the rear is pretty low, I used to run around 40psi or more. 400 ml sounds like too much oil, if I recall right I was using somewhere around 360ml. 14psi in the front shocks is on the high side, the Maximum air pressure for the FRONT shocks is 17psi. The REAR Max pressure is 72psi I think. OK when you replaced the seals did you use authentic Yamaha seals or aftermarket?? Aftermarket are KNOWN to leak! Another thing to consider is how smooth or how pitted are the tubes? The most common reason front forks bottom out is the springs are just plain worn out! Spring rate can change just from age being somewhat compressed at all times with the bike just setting there. I can't remember the exact price, but a new set of "Progressive" brand springs goes for less than $100, around $75 or so. Of course that's US funds, in Canadian dollars that's probably a half a bizillion give or take...
  19. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of float level adjustment myself. Hmmm, maybe I should go out to the garage and stare at my spare set of carbs...
  20. Hnnnn, according to the member list (found in "Community") and sorted by "State/Providence" there are only 11 of you... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/memberlist.php?page=5&pp=100&order=desc&sort=field19
  21. Uhhh, something in the audio system?? Seriously, not sure, maybe one of the schematics in the Tech library may give the answer, but why not accept the fact that it is fixed and working??
  22. Yes, hopefully you did NOT connect the sensor wire directly to 12 volts, but put a resistor in series with the probe line. If you DID connect directly to 12 volts without a resistor chances are the sensor chip is now fried!! This will NOT affect performance however, it is just a monitor! The resistor value should be between 2,000 ohms and 5000 ohms and it's wattage can be 1/4 to 1/8 watt. Yes, you may have had some bad gas or something. I would HIGHLY recommend you add a can of "Seafoam" to a full tank of gas and then drive it like you stole it!! The resistor can be installed between the accessory fuse and the probe... I see you are sort of north of Kitchener, there are a few members in southern Ontario that are VERY knowledgeable on 1st generation Ventures, hopefully one or two of them will introduce themselves!
  23. Yup!! No law against owning more than one bike...
  24. Good thing to know! Luckily, though, the 1st Gen pumps do not fail as often as the 2nd gen ones do...
