  1. I have used the old seal on top of the new one. I have a small brass punch that I tap the seal and bushing together into the tube. Be careful to not hit the inner tube where you tap the end of punch.
  2. I have used SOS pads for years. It will clean the chrome and the soap helps clean the dirt around it. I will try the aluminum foil to see which takes less work. Getting old and lazy.
  3. Hello folks, I can't find the float height in the archives here. I am pretty sure I have seen the information on here in the past. I need to know where to measure from and the height. I think the height is 25mm but would like to confirm. Thanks.
  4. Me too. As far as I know there are no restriction on motorcycles going either way. From the US or from Canada. Enjoy the new bike.
  5. A well played hard fought exciting game. It's too bad there has to be a 2nd place. Tomorrows game between our 2 great countries promises to be a great one. It's not whether:fingers-crossed-emo you win or loose it's who gets the gold.
  6. When I did my swing arm I drilled and tapped holes for a grease nipple where the bushings ride so that now I can grease the swing arm with a gun.
  7. Nicolas Cage movie Ghost Rider #2 he rides a slightly modified V-Max.
  8. My 84 was the same, faded into a grey colour. The old clears did not have UV protection so the paint under it would fade. The only cure is to repaint every thing so it all looks the same. As far as using lacquer it would depend on where you live. GM used lacquer paint for a long time and the lacquer painted vehicles around here would crack. I haven't been in the paint shop as a professional in 20 years so I am really out of the loop when it comes to the new materials out there nowadays. All the body shops around here are changing to water based paints for obvious health and environmental reasons.
  9. There is 1 locally with over 800,000 KM's on it. The engine was replaced with a V-Max at 300,000 KM. The owner has 2 other Ventures and a couple of new Triumphs that he also puts a ton of KM's on every riding season. The bikes he owns all look as good as show room.
  10. With the seat off you can remove the float from the gas tank and with a flash light get a good look inside. My tank was solid rust from 17 years of sitting in a barn drained dry. That was my first job and 2 years later I took my first ride on the bike to Yellowstone. WOW! Keep people on here informed and you will have all the help you need for all the work you are probably be doing in the near future. When we can't ride we maintain.
  11. North Manitoba already has over a foot. So far we in the south have had some flurries. Now I have the time to finish my bike which I didn't have time for since last winter. My brother and I re-stored a 1962 Honda 50, hence the reason my bike is still in parts.
  12. A friend of mine has ordered a set for his 79 Gold Wing. I will post information on how they perform as soon as it is available.
  13. I have had some success using some axle grease in the back side of the seal. I try to pack it full and this seems to help tighten the seal against the tube. It has worked for me on several fork sets that I have had some trouble with. Hope you find a solution soon.
  14. I had to change all my high voltage wires and spark plug caps on my 84 when I first got it. The crac:fingers-crossed-emoking sound my be a leak right through the insulation on the wire. That was my problem.
  15. If you have the parts on the bottom of the inner sliders in the wrong way especially the little top hat bit, the front end will bottom out. I hope you will be able to fix whatever the problem is with out too much trouble.
  16. The hole in the lever that the bolt goes through over time becomes more of an oval. It might be time for a new one. I have seen the bushing type used but I can't remember the models. I used to work on a bunch of XS/XJ 1100's back a few years, it could be one of those.
  17. I think your idea about talking to the sales manager is a good one. I have worked in a few different bike dealerships and the sales people did not give a darn about anything except their pay day. I sincerely hope they listen and learn. The sales team will get a share of the smaller machine they should be selling for beginners. Good luck and let us know how things go.
  18. Has anyone tried bicycle shorts under your jeans? I have a friend that swears it's best way to ride. Haven't tried it myself since talking with my buddy but if, or when, I get back on the road I will try it.
  19. Ignorance is not stupid. Thanks for sharing information with us.
  20. I just looked at a pair on e=bay for $15.00 I used the link on the bottom of the home page:fingers-crossed-emo
  21. What plastic parts do you have? Would you have the plastic faring parts that hold the speakers? I also need left side main fairing and the piece that sits under the headlight.
  22. You do have a metric wrench for job? I think it is an 8 or 10 mm.
  23. The first time I did the bikes rear end I installed 5 grease fittings. Now I can lube the parts in about 10 minutes depending on beer consumed.
