  1. Officially Aberdeen SD got down to -37 last night with a wind chill making it -59...…..
  2. Bill When I bought my RSTD in 08, I came over to Larson's Cycle in Cambridge and picked it up. Nice area to live. I liked it over there, and Larson's is a good dealer. There a a few guys from my area that went over there. You are almost straight East of me.
  3. It's not so much the heat, it's the humidity...
  4. I think that on average the Black Hills are about 15 degrees warmer than where I am. Usually cooler in summer as well.
  5. Neighbors vehicle temp showed -40 this morning. I could stay warm enough fishing in my shack. Won't go out like this though. Truck might not want to start when I'm done. Glad I don't have livestock to take care of. I can just stay in the house and wait it out. Heading into town for church. Not looking forward to 20 mile drive....
  6. Got up to go to church this morning. -29 with wind chill making it -55. Should be able to put ice shack out for fishing next week after this cold front goes through. Definitely should have decent ice now. I guess that is à plus...
  7. I should proof read my posts a little closer.... While piece and quiet would be nice, I'm sure peace and quiet would be much more relaxing. I guess it shows that I liked history/government and biology more than I liked english and math in high school. I apologize to my high school teachers if I make them look bad.
  8. My plans are to look at it sitting in my garage as I get in my truck on my way out to the ice shack. After the hectic fall that I had, piece and quiet is welcome. If I catch a fish or two it's a bonus....
  9. Take care of yourself and let them doctors get ya all better. If you are needing a lift in your spirits, may I suggest you stop at a local Diner and have a piece of pie. It will get you through until next year at Sturgis when you can do it properly at the Blue Line in Newell. Will keep you in our thoughts!
  10. My personal preference is having a totally enclosed hauler. Mine is a car trailer type with a forest river conversion up front. I think the open front would be great for atv's as far as not tracking in mud/gravel/sand inside. but here are a few things I've noticed with my toy hauler in the last 3 years. 1. IF the bike is inside when you aren't riding it, you don't have to take soft bag off or worry about locking it at night. If a storm comes up you can get the bike inside. 2. Never enough storage in a hauler, you can throw a few extra bags of clothes etc. in the back as well. Better than the back of my truck. 3. I want a separate area with walk through door for the bike, I don't worry about gas fumes etc. in living space. Also when you run bike inside at night it doesn't interfere with living space. 4. my fridge went out before Sturgis, I threw a mini fridge in back on one side and strapped it in. Plenty of room beside bike and it sits by my clothes duffel bags. I'm in no hurry to fix fridge now. 5. I need more room in garage this winter, going to put 2 bikes inside it over the winter to store them. 6. Just thought of this as well. 1st year I took it to Sturgis, my boys came out for a few days. I bought 2 nice cots and the boys slept back in the bike bay. I just left the bike out, and left the walk through door open later in the day so the AC could cool the back down before evening. 7. My hauler sits low. full width ramp door is very low angle. Easy peasy, no worries going in with bike at all. Rear frame of trailer has rollers welded underneath so nothing gets ripped out from underside when entering gas stations etc. This is a must have in my opinion (my trailer is 26 foot) My ideal hauler would also have a slide. I am a big guy and the living quarters get tight. Bathroom is very small as well. If I used it more often I would probably upgrade in some fashion, but as of now it works for what I need.
  11. The deal would be a whole lot better if you would post a couple of pics....... WELCOME!
  12. I farm for a living. My shop is 30 x 40, if it was 60 x 120 it would look the same. If it is bigger, you just put more stuff in it. If it makes you feel any better, I just did my spring cleaning yesterday (let that sink in for a minute and it will paint a horrible picture in your mind)......now to clean the work bench, tool chest, and welding table. There goes another day. At least now I can get to the fridge and have a pop while I'm doing the bench and table. Wont be as much dust in the air. I get lazy and use the air hose instead of the broom.
  13. check out Bersa Thunder in .380 (think Walther/ James Bond). Wont break the bank and dependable. A little on the heavy side for a .380 but not bad. I like mine....
  14. The bar that burned down was the Full Throttle. He had a tent there selling beer so you could look at the mess that was left. He bought The Broken Spoke campground north east of Sturgis. It is 7 miles north of Buffalo Chip. I believe it is called The new Full Throttle on the Pappy Hoel Campground or something like that. It is quite a ways north. I heard that when he bought the Broken Spoke which is about 160 acres, he also bought 600 adjoining acres. So it could be really big in the future. He already added another big building along with a huge permanent stage.
  15. True story....back in 09 on our way out to Sturgis coming from Pierre SD myself and another guy were going to meet up with a friend at a gas station about 80 miles from Sturgis. About 10 miles out of Pierre we met road construction and a pilot car. Bikes were backed up for 1/4 mile. After we get through the road construction everybody took off in one pack with the lead bike doing the speed limit. The guy riding with me timed the traffic and rolling hills to pass a bunch and dropped back in line. I hesitated pulling out and wasn't able to catch back up with him. Pretty soon he had passed almost all of the bikes and I was hung up in back unable to catch up. Finally we got to a straight section with no hills and since everybody was happy tooling along at 55 I hammered down on the RSTD and passed all of them at once doing about 90. We got to the gas station later and filled up and were waiting for our friend who was coming back from Sturgis to meet us. After about 10 minutes all the bikes we passed pulled in and were filling up. The guy who was leading the group came up to me and said "How fast were you going?" I said about 90 (I did slow down to about 75 after I caught my buddy). He said "You s.o.b's are crazy! Aint you worried about getting picked up?" I said no way. All the cops are at Sturgis, not out here in no mans land. Just slow down the last 50 miles or so. I then told him to hurry up and he can follow us in to Sturgis. He grinned and politely declined. I bet that RSTD sounded wild going by at 90 with fishtails on it. I'm sure they heard me coming and going......And for the record I don't normally ride that way, but the riders in front of me had some opportunities to pass and nobody did. They were going to stay all bunched up until they got to the gas station. I don't normally pass more than one vehicle at a time. I'm not a big fan of that many bikes in a bunch either.....
  16. Something you might find useful. Highway Patrol cars have been white with maroon trim. I have been seeing some that are black and maroon, as well as some black SUV's. Might help save you a speeding ticket......
  17. I guess us South Dakotans are a goofy bunch, we do it backwards. Neighbor and I took his camper and trailer and my toyhauler out to Sturgis yesterday. Left at 4:30 a.m. and got out to the campground and got everything set up in time or lunch. We met 2 other couples out there who are friends and camp beside us. After lunch we ran some errands and even had time for a quick nap. We went and had supper then we went to the Black Hills National Cemetery to pay respects to 2 of the wives (sisters) in our groups father. He was a veteran, and it was quite a moving experience. What a beautiful place, and it really hits home when you see all the markers. What a special evening standing there in the twilight. We got up early this morning and the 2 couples we met up with headed for a trip into Iowa, and my neighbor and I came home. And Puc, we even stopped at the Blue Line Diner in Newell and had breakfast. Most people ride out and back, us goofballs ride back and out.......wives are happy with a comfy place to stay, and we get our riding in. I got home at 1:30 today after 320 miles. Going to head back out either next Tuesday afternoon, or Wednesday morning.

  19. Good looking bike!!! If I may suggest, look around for the mid frame heat deflectors that mounts on the frame between the fuel tank and the bags. It is 2 plastic pieces that mount on both side and will help with the heat coming from the crossover pipe. I hope you get many miles out of it!
  20. I am going out on the 4th until I cant take it anymore.......
  21. I am planning on heading out the Thursday before the official start of the Rally. I believe it is the 4th of August. Anybody else going early?
  22. You can see the equalizer hitch in this photo. Its a good thing to have on a bumper pull....
  23. Doesn't get much better
  24. Just thought I'd mention, with the equalizer hitch, my toyhauler which is a Forest River conversion, pulls very nice. I pulled it home from getting the fridge worked on today. 20 miles over a stretch of rough highway. When I got home there was a windex bottle full of water which they put inside the fridge to see if it would cool. The bottle had no top on it and was still standing upright when I got home. In the past I have left change on the counter and pulled it home from Sturgis without having any fall on the floor. That is 300 miles. So if you are gonna go bumper pull. Add an equalizer hitch, its worth it....
