  1. Thanks for the insight. No doubt it has been laid down prior to my ownership. I rebuilt the forks with progressive springs and seals not long after I bought it several years ago and it hasn't been down since I have owned it. As I don't use air in the forks since the rebuild, should I just disconnect and plug that line? I will pull down the manual and run through the services too.
  2. Hello folks, While using the air compressor a while back I noticed oil running down the rear fender. Today I pulled the rear trunk off and it looks like the oil was coming from the compressor or whatever the thing with three cylinders attached is. Is there a way to repair this or do I have to delete it?
  3. Hi everyone! I found a great deal on a 83 Goldwing that looks and sounds amazing with a recent service. The problem is how do I convince the wife I need another motorcycle? She tells me how much I love my venture and how I brag about it's reliability and long life. I believe I may have gotten myself in a spot I can't debate my way out of. Any suggestions from multiple bike owners on realistic persuasion techniques would be helpful.
  4. Whew, now I know what it feels like to ride in the desert. I put a little over 300 miles on yesterday and had to quit from the heat here in Kansas. The air temp was 112 at my house when I got home and riding with full gear was a real challenge. One thing to do now is change the clutch fluid as I lost response a couple of miles from home. After everything cooled down (including me!) I checked the clutch lever and it was back to normal.
  5. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the shift shaft area. I will check the stator grommet and wiring. Thanks for the tips!
  6. It certainly looks like a good one! I don't think you should wait on me to sell it. I won't be back in the States until around Thanksgiving.
  7. I never heard from anyone and honestly I'm only a marginal seamstress! If there were plans I was willing to try it but not from scratch.
  8. Wow, that's a lot of advice. I will add one thing. In Kansas you can take a soil sample to the county extension office and they will send it to the lab for analysis. The report typically shows what's missing and how much fertilizer to add for different crops, including grass. I bet your county Ag extension office offers a similar service. Good Luck!
  9. Good for you! I'm under two years to go now and I can't wait!
  10. @cowpuc I always appreciate your feedback on these issues! So to answer some of the questions. I am out of the country right now and can't look directly at the bike but I believe I am at about 43000 miles. I replaced the fork springs with progressives right after I got it almost 6 years ago as the original seals were shot and I rebuilt the front. I've put about 4000 miles on it. The oil leak looks like it comes from the area of the shaft but I really haven't torn into it to be sure. It usually leaves me a spot on the garage floor about the size of a quarter after riding. As far as the carbs, I haven't had any issues. It runs like a top!
  11. No argument there. I really do like it. Its just some of the nit picky things like the finicky starter when it gets hot, a shifter shaft oil leak and not being sure when or if the stator might give up the ghost. Maybe I should just stay with it and see what happens.
  12. Hello all, I'm looking to move up from my 1989 Venture Royale to one of the newer Royal Star Ventures (2008-2013). No real issues with the '89 but I am getting closer to retirement and maybe having a bike that I am not so concerned about on long rides would be helpful. I'm still a fan of the V-4 so interested in sticking with the tried and true. Any significant differences in this year range I should be looking at as far as options or accessories?
  13. I'm still here! I'm currently visiting a sandy place so no riding this year, unless it's a 🐪
