Yep...I've run into several members over the years by chance. It's pretty cool when it happens. Well...I'm going to get in the shower and then on the road. Gotta get home and be back to work on Monday. hmmmm......think I'll stop by Gainsville Harley and get a T-Shirt. Had to be SOME reason for coming here.

Hey..I have even more odds for you. I don't think I lost a single part off the Harley. I'll do a closer inspection this morning though. It actually did very well. Tried to run 75 MPH and was about to get about 42 MPG. Stopped and filled up at about 220 miles per tank. I cut it close on the last one though. Thought I had enough gas to make it to Gainsville to fill up and document my final mileage. I made it but was sweating. It has a 6 gallon tank and I put 5.82 gallons of gas in it when I stopped.

Yea, what are the odds. I was just inside the FL line when I stopped at the rest stop to decide where to find a hotel for the night. At that point, I was 10 miles short of my 1000 miles. Was talking to those two guys and mentioned that I had a Venture at home. He told me that a good friend of his had a Venture and used to go to some guys house in Ohio for a get together every year. Yes, he tried to call you while we were talking.

First of all, I will ask that NONE of you ever again do a "no-rain" dance for me. You totally did it wrong. It rained HARD for 200 miles after I last checked in. I mean so hard that the cars had their emergency flashers on so that they wouldn't get rear-ended. Overall though, the day went well. It was about 50 degrees when I left my house this morning. It was close to 350 miles before it got up to 60. I didn't dress for that and was completely chilled. Once the sun came up, it was nice though and never got much above 80 the entire trip. Light rain off and on and then as I said, HEAVY rain for the last couple hundred miles. I checked into a hotel in Gainsville, FL around 9:00 pm. That was after about 18 1/2 hours and 1079 miles. I expected to do it a little quicker but traffic in Knoxville and then HEAVY traffic going through Atlanta slowed me down a bit. Anyway, it is done. Witnesses on both ends and receipts for the entire trip so I should have no problem getting the certificate. Of course if I do another 425 miles tomorrow by 2:30 pm, I can also get the bunburrner award. Don't know if I really care right this minute though. I also get to finally color in Florida on my ride map.

In Perry, GA now. 860 miles so far. Couple more hours to go. Didn't get too wet.
-
Left oberlin at 2:30 this morning. Somewhere just inside Georgia now. 640 miles so far. Planning to get somewhere into Florida later this afternoon and something over the 1,000 miles. Starting to get into some rain though.

Nope...the only way to adjust it is with an SWR meter. If you don't know anybody who has one, you can probably find a local truck stop with a CB shop nearby that could help you out with it. To be honest, I don't think that the SWR is ever set on these things from the factory and certainly not at the dealer. It was probably never correct to begin with so is as good as it was before it came out.

Folks, the Kentucky area was winning in the poll before I deleted it but I've heard nothing else about another suitable location or any talk about that one. So I'm leaning toward calling this one and going with Alabama for 2014. Sounds like the folks there are really wanting to work with us and Brake Pad has already done a lot of the initial footwork. Are there any MAJOR objections?

You might want to go ahead and install the VMAX rear and then see what you think. I think you will be amazed at the diffference and will no longer worry about any lack of power.

Most of the flags were put in the mail yesterday. The couple that I was waiting on addresses for will be mailed this morning. I still have plenty left if anybody needs one or more.

Anyone have "little known secrets" about 2nd Gen
Freebird replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
The earlier RSVs did not have the cable running to the saddlebags. The connection was in the fairing and if you bought a CD Changer, it came with the long cable that you had to connect in the fairing and run back to the saddlebags. At some point, I understand that Yamaha started running the cable back to the area of the bags but I'm not sure what year they started doing that. -
Actually, the Hardley is already sporting one....that's what I meant to type. It was on it at Galena and will remain on it. I think it was Eddie who had the large patches made up. I don't know if he has any more or not. If not, I can see about having some made up if there is enough interest.

HEY...the RSV is already sporting one. So THERE.
-
Bob, I just looked and you have already paid me once. If you want to pay again, that's up to you.

Flags finally arrived yesterday. Will be getting them in the mail today to those who have already ordered. Still have extras if anybody else needs one. Here is the thread with picture and price. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=73486

Not ignoring this folks. Will try to get it straightened out tonight.

You don't need anything else except for the gauges and a couple of screwdrivers. A long phillips head and a regular straight blade. You don't need any adapters nor a fan. It literally takes about 10 minutes to sync the carbs. The tank nor seat have to be removed. Very simple. Personally, I would either go with the carb tune or the vacuum gauges as shown in your first post. The Motion Pro are fine and will do the job as well as anything but have to be handled a bit more carefully and I have seen the mercury...or whatever they use now...get sucked out of the tubes if one of the carbs is off too badly.
-
Yea, Eileen was OK. She said it was very comfortable but on longer rides, she likes a bit more room to stretch out and change her position. I got very lucky, IronMike here had a KuryAkyn adjustable tour pack relocation kit that he traded me for some carb tuning and etc. It slides back and forth to 1" further forward and 3" further back. Very nice.

Folks, I'm not saying that it is solidified but it sure seems like the way to go at this point. Kentucky was leading in the poll that I had per-maturely posted but the original facility in Kentucky was going to be inadequate. I've not seen anything about an alternative location in Kentucky. So...right now...I'm thinking that Alabama may be the best choice but I'm still open to comments and suggestions.

I too went with the Heritage bars. I think I am going to like them but won't know for sure until I do a good trip on it. My initial feelings were that I wished they had even a bit more pullback but we'll see. They are certainly better than the stock bars. My bike came with the mid frame air deflector. It is standard on the '13 models. My dealer told me that they offer an exchange for the pipe with the CAT. I pull mine off and take it in and they exchange it for one without a CAT for $100.00. I will do that over the next couple of weeks. Otherwise, no other complaints right now. Eileen did complain a bit about not having quiet as much passenger room as she did on the RSV but I took care of that yesterday.

This sounds like a fantastic place to me.
-
Well...I mean...nothing was...well........... going back to my corner now.
-
My new Road Glide did come with a decent sized oil cooler. It is fairly effective as long as you are moving. It's when you get stuck in a traffic jam that the heat is noticeable. The new bikes have the CAT in what I think they call the "mid pipe". I took my bike in for the first service yesterday and learned that my dealer has an exchange program. I can remove the pipe and bring it in and they will exchange it for one with the cat for $100.00. I will be doing that within the next couple of weeks. Otherwise, so far, I have no complaints about the bike. There are some things that I like better about the RSV but there are things that I like better about the Road Glide. They are both great bikes.
