From looking at the damage and reading your report, I have to say that you are a lucky man my friend. Your injuries are certainly serious but we are so thankful that you are here to tell us about it. Take care of yourself and take the time to let the body heal.

Clutch knocking
Freebird replied to Msig's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just to clear things up for you. First Gen is '83 -'93, second gen is '99 - '13, third gen is what we hope is coming soon. I am moving this thread to the First Gen section for you. -
When you click on "Forum" in the menu bar, you get a list of all the different forums. The first one, which you apparently found, is the "Watering Hole". Don't click on that though. Scroll down and you'll come to another red header titled "Tech Talk". The fifth forum down under that header is "First Gen Tech Talk". Click on that and post just like you did in the watering hole.

Will try to do our usual run to Quaker Steak and Lube in Vermillion. I'll call them tomorrow. Probably around 6:00.

OK folks, Freebird's Maintenance Day is coming up in about 3 weeks. Eileen wants to get the food for Saturday's lunch ordered this week so PLEASE go to the calendar and add your name if you are coming. This does not mean that you aren't welcome if you decide at the last minute to come but we need to get a fairly close count on how much to order. As always, there will also be soft drinks, bottled water, and coffee. The count helps us figure that out also. Thanks

no sound for me in chat
Freebird replied to rbig1's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
Rodney, I don't know. I tried it and it worked fine. I then logged in as you and it still worked fine. I don't think it's anything on this end. When I say it worked fine, I mean I got the doorbell sign when I logged in. I didn't check the sounds that people send. There is a menu at the bottom of the chat window and one of the icons in a "wrench". Did you click on that and make sure that you have all the sound effects selected? -

Rodney, I'll take a look at it for you later today. -
Now that is a good question and one that has already crossed my mind. The only thing I'm lacking is an answer.

I don't understand either. Buying a mower was NOT something that I wanted to do. I've worked on the old Snapper for the last two or three weekends trying to extend its life. I even though seriously about buying a new motor for it but the Hydro drives and etc. are showing signs of weakness also and then the deck spindles and etc. would likely follow soon after. On another note, I also see that Yamaha is now making lawn vertical shaft mower engines. V Twins. That MAY be what the new motorcycle will have.

Congrats. I had wondered what ever happened to Straycat. He seems like a good guy. Glad that you are back in the fold.

I may have to if I want to use it. Just got a text from my wife letting me know that there is an 80% chance of rain at home tomorrow. My grass is getting out of hand.

Well, as much as I hate it, I pretty much agree with you that it will be a VTwin. I have nothing against VTwins and I'm sure that a water cooled VTwin can be made to work very well but it just doesn't distinguish it from all the others out there. Harley, Indian, etc. If somebody wants a VTwin, there are a lot of options. A 1700 V4 from the VMax would make Yamaha stand out from the crowd. In short, I don't think that we are going to see a new Venture. We are going to see some type of VTwin cruiser with updated technologies and I doubt it will be called or reference to the Venture at all.

Well, it depends upon what you call HUGE. I mow between 3 1/2 and 4 acres. My old Snapper was a zero turn with a 48" deck. It took me about 3 1/2 hours to mow and then all the trimming and etc. My hope is that the front deck will cut down on some of my trimming because it can get under the low hanging pine trees and etc. much easier and also with the front deck (also wider deck), better stability of the front drive system, etc., I can HOPEFULLY mow around the pond where the Snapper ended up IN the pond if I tried to mow to close to the edge. Whether you go with the zero turn or a traditional tractor type mower depends upon the type of yard it is. If it has a lot of hills and slopes, you may be better off with a traditional tractor type. If it is mostly flat, zero turns are the only way to go. Will offer more opinions if you end up being in the market.

HA...it's a TRICK. Not a Kawasaki motorcycle. My old Snapper zero turn mower finally bit the dust. I nursed it through last season and hoped to nurse it through this season but it's just not going to happen. Not sure what is wrong with it but the Briggs & Stratton Vanguard 21 HP engine is blowing oil out everywhere. At first I thought it was just a back o-ring gasket on the crankcase breather but when I repaired that, it started blowing oil out in other places. Crankcase vent seems to be functioning properly but it is blowing oil out the valve cover gaskets, into the air breather, everywhere. I suspect that the rings are shot. I can't complain. I've had the mower for 11 or 12 years and it has over 2,000 hours on it. That's a lot for a non-commercial mower. I may try to rebuild the engine or look for a good used one to put on the mower and keep it for a backup because it certainly won't bring anything if I try to sell it. Considered a new motor but with that many hours on the unit, how long before hyrdo pumps, wheel motors, deck spindles and everything else starts going. So, I went shopping. I decided a few years ago that for my next mower, I wanted to try a front deck model. The problem is, about the only thing you can find with front decks are commercial models and they are expensive. Grasshopper, Snapper Pro, Ferris and a few others but they all start around $13,000.00. That's a lot of money for a home mower. I was about to settle for another mid-mount zero turn when I found what i HOPE was a good deal. It is a Woods F222K. 61" front deck with power tilt, Kawasaki commercial engine, etc. It was at a dealer about 1 1/2 hours from my house. It is a NEW 2015 model. Used for a demo so has 18 hours on it. It came with the full factory warranty which is 2 years. I got it for about half what a new Ferris or one of the others would have cost me. Was it a great deal? Time will tell. I've researched the heck out of it but there aren't a lot of reviews. The few that I've found have been mixed with most being very positive but a few not so good. The problem is that in the early years, Woods had other companies make their mowers and some were better than others. For several years now, they have made their own mowers and most people say that they are built like tanks and last a long time. So I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Sometimes what seems like a good deal turns out to be a nightmare. I demoed it at the dealer but it won't be delivered until tomorrow morning so it will get a good test when I get home. I was unable to mow last weekend due to a broken mower and a very wet yard from days of rain so it will get a test on some pretty high grass. I don't have a picture of the one that I bought but this is what it looks like.

Hate to move it to the very top. Where do you suggest? What do the rest of you think?

I'm not sure then. First, check your trash and spam folders. You may need to add Venturerider.org to your email services whitelist. The other thing you might try is to turn off the notifications. Save your preferences and then turn it back on again and save your preferences again. Maybe that will reset something.

I've heard of nobody else having an issue. I just sent you two emails. One from my zoominternet account and one from my venturerider account. Let me know if you got either or both of them.

Maybe, Just Maybe!
Freebird replied to grubsie's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Well, I think it is obvious that something new is coming in a Yamaha touring bike. The fact that their videos are highlighting the Star style of motorcycles tells me that it is going to be a cruiser style. The talk about what people would like to see and calling those things a "game changer" tells me that it is going to have a lot of the features that many of us have been wanting. What we don't yet know is what engine it will have. The 1700 V4 makes the most sense to most of us but the VTwin out of the Stratocaster line of bikes is a possibility but I sure hope that they don't do that. I hope that they stand strong and continue to dare to be different with some iteration of our V4. The other thing I wonder is whether or not they will continue calling it a Venture? I hope so but I just don't know. At least it is not all rumor this time. We will know something in about a month. I just hope that I don't like it. I've got my '05 pretty much all decked out the way that I like it. -
As most of you hopefully know by now, Freebird's Maintenance Day is coming up on June 10th. If you haven't signed up for it, please go to the calendar and do so as we need to start planning how much food, soft drinks, etc. to get. In addition to that, I want to mention that if you have parts and/or accessories, riding gear, etc. that you wish to sell or trade, people do bring things to Maintenance Day. There is always a table or other places to put such items. If you have things that you plan to bring, feel free to list them ONLY in this thread so that people can bring their bags of money.

Thanks for the tip. I will have to check mine.

That's a nice bag Gary. I like it.

I think the white letters is all that they offer in that tire. Everybody I've seen use it just runs it that way. Letters on one side and black on the other. The good news is that you can only see one side at a time. I will mention ONE thing. It doesn't bother most people but it bothered me a lot. It will lower the rear of your bike about an inch, depending upon which tire you are coming from. For example, the specs state that it is 24.8" outside diameter where the Dunlop Elite 3 is 25.5". Some brands are even a bit taller so you are going to lose approximately an inch. If you would like the rear lowered then that's good. In my case though, I actually liked the rear RAISED so I had installed the leveling links on my bike to raise the rear an inch. Then when I tried the BF Goodrich, I lost what I had gained so off it came. I never really gave the tire a good test because I road it one time that way and went back to the motorcycle tire mainly for the height.
