  1. I guess I started with tractors on my grandparent's farms. They were manual but of course you didn't shift once you got moving. They had clutches but you put them in the gear that you wanted before you started moving. They were not synchronized, at least their old tractors weren't. First true manual that I had to shift once I got moving was my first motorcycle. A Honda S90. I think it was a 1965 model. I bought it from the grandfather of a friend and my mom dropped me off to pick it up. I figured it out and learned to shift it on the way home. I had never ridden a motorcycle before, maybe a mini bike or two owned by various friends. My first car was an old 1959 Chevy Belaire that my dad gave me. It had been his work car. Wish I had it back now. It was a two door with a six cylinder, probably a 235, and three on the column. Drove the wheels off that thing. Have owned many manual models over the years. Cars and trucks. I still enjoy driving them but it's been quite a few years since we owned one. The last I remember was a Honda Prelude with a 5 speed that I had bought for my wife just before moving to Ohio about 17 years ago. She actually loved that little car and drove it to Ohio when we moved.
  2. No, sorry, I bought it from a member who had purchased it and then sold his bike before installing it. I probably got the papers with it but just don't remember.
  3. I can't tell you too much about the YSS except that I put one on the '99 that I sold Yammer Dan a few years ago. I sold it to him shortly after doing so though so really didn't have much experience with it. I will say that it was a nice looking shock and seemed to be very well built.
  4. I've seen the 34 MPG number in several articles but not sure where it came from. Here is one example that claims 34 MPG. We have seen from our own experience with the current bike that gas mileage varies widely from member to member. I won't surprise me to see claims between 30 and 45 MPG. https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2017/06/05/2018-yamaha-star-venture-preview-14-fast-facts/
  5. Is it possible that it is set for the CB volume and not the stereo? They are separate. If you push the CB button and then adjust the volume, that adjusts only the CB. Push the stereo button and then the volume to adjust the stereo. Otherwise, something is definitely defective.
  6. A couple of cool things but nothing I would drive to California for.
  7. Should do a good job. Nice work. I can remember when I was a kid, before A/C became popular, we had the swamp coolers in our houses in Texas. I was born and raised in NE Texas and it was always pretty humid. Those things put so much more humidity in the air that there was no way to raise a window in the house.
  8. There is actually one specifically for the first gen. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?56723-First-Gen-Carb-Sync-With-Carbtune-Including-Pics!
  9. Unless the battery is very old and nearing end of life anyway, you should be able to charge it and it will do fine.
  10. Yes it is. Go to your ad, in the upper right corner click on "product options". Then click "edit ad" from the dropdown menu.
  11. Let her know that we are all wishing her, and you, the best and you are both in our prayers. Scary stuff.
  12. Very common. Some tires worse than others. Often you can run your open palm lightly along the edge of the tire and feel scalloping but not always. I've even had some brand new tires do it, depending upon the tread design. The original Michelin Commander was sing like crazy in a sweeping curve. They have upgraded that tire and it's now called the Commander II but I haven't tried one and don't know if it still makes the noise or not. It was a great tire otherwise.
  13. Beautiful bike. I actually like the front fender better than their old-time swoopy fender. I know that old style is part of their heritage but I'm just not a fan.
  14. No, it does not. That fuse is actually associated with the audio system, backup power for audio presets, etc.
  15. I've done it. It works fine if you have a long bed truck. The hard part is finding a place to load and unload it. It's a heavy bike to handle on a steep ramp. I found a low place, ditch or something, to back into so that the tailgate was close to the ground.
  16. OK...I THINK I have increased the notice to two weeks. Some people mail checks and/or money orders so hopefully two weeks bill be a better setting. We'll have to see if it works. There is no setting for changing it. You have to dig through a lot of programming code to find where it all happens and then they don't make it obvious. We'll see. Just to show you what I mean, once you find the general area of the setting in thousands and thousand of lines of code, this is what it looks like: "(TIMENOW + (86400 * 13)) So it's based on the number of seconds in a day x the number of days. Also, you should get a notification in your "notification" tab at the top of the forum, same one where you are notified about PMs and etc. Is that not working? You should have been getting that at 14 days ahead of time also.
  17. Yes, it's on the website. I added it for you and also for Grez.
  18. I'm sure it's not a problem. He probably thought about it over night and knew that people would want to know.
  19. I got a call about this yesterday. First asking me to help look for somebody to help and then another message telling me that they had found help. Sorry I didn't post about it but I was also told that Mike didn't want it posted publicly for some reason. Sad news and Mike you are in our thoughts and prayers. Hope you heal soon.
  20. Sorry to hear about your hardships. Got messages yesterday but by the time I got it, you had already sent the second one. Will honor your wishes and not go into detail here but please let me know if you need anything. You can fill everybody in at the right time. I wish you the best on the rest of your journey.
  21. He was last on here in February and never did become a supporting member so his trial period is over and he won't be able to respond. Too bad, there was a lot of interest in his project.
  22. I really like those scooters. Have, in the past, thought about getting rid of the big bikes and buying a couple of those. I think Eileen would really enjoy it also. Just can't seriously consider getting rid of a big bike though. Maybe someday.
  23. It's not difficult to add the vent to most any windshield. I have put the Goldwing vent in a couple and there is also a round vent that can be installed one on each side.
