  1. Wasn't too bad for me since he did exactly what I expected him to do, but my wife commented afterwords that her heart rate was way up. She didn't see the deer until I pointed him out just before he cut back across in front of us.
  2. My wife and I were out riding the RSV on a county road this morning when I saw a young buck cross the road about 50 yards in front of us. Knowing that there are often more than one I started slowing down with my head on a swivel. As we got closer to where he crossed I noticed that he was running parallel to the road because he could not get over a fence. I thought to myself "I bet he is going to come back across the road". Sure enough, just when we had nearly pulled even with him he shot back across right in front of us and I had to nail the brakes to keep from hitting him. Luckily I was expecting him to do that and was ready for him so no harm done, just a little added excitement to the morning ride.
  3. Either it expired or it was not a nationwide deal. I checked today and no dice. Wound up going to Autozone for my usual deal: 5 qts of STP synthetic with oil filter and air filter for $32.99
  4. Some IT personnel are tech guys......the ones responsible for the forum massacres I have been through were definitely tech weanies. The president of a company that I used to work for would refer to the IT department as "Larry, Moe and Curly"
  5. Thanks! I have two vehicles I need to change the oil on.
  6. At least you warned us. I have been through updates on other sites where even the moderators were blindsided. The tech weanies gave them no warning whatsoever. It wasn't pretty.....
  7. Many, many years ago we took California from Mexico. Is it too late to admit we were wrong and give it back?
  8. That sounds like exactly what I am looking for. I will investigate that brand, thanks. If you follow the link I posted above for the jackets and select the Hi Viz option, that is what we have. I also have no desire to channel my inner Ninja while riding, I want to be visible.
  9. I would take a look at Frogg Toggs but I hear they are not warrantied against shotguns.
  10. Yeah, today it started raining but we were not really getting wet so we held off putting on the rain gear.....until I saw that we were about to enter a wall of water about 1/4 mile down the road. Stopped to put on the gear and by the time we got it all on the wall of water was gone. Stopped at a gas station and took off the rain gear, went down the block to the J&P Cycles store and it started raining again after we went about 100 yards. Took advantage of the cover and benches outside the store to put the gear back on....and by the time we got it on the rain had stopped again. Left the gear on and got rained on pretty good a couple of miles down the road. When the sun came back out we stopped and took the jackets off but left the rain pants on. And didn't see any more rain all the way home. Typical summer weather pattern here in Florida. If it is not raining hard you will get wetter with sweat under the gear than you would in the rain without any rain gear so using the rain gear is kinda like gambling.
  11. Went for a nearly 200 mile ride today and got rained on. My wife and I have these rain jackets: https://www.cyclegear.com/gear/tour-master-sentinel-le-rain-jacket We are happy with the jackets, but struggling to get into the rain pants on the side of the road made us wonder if anybody makes rain pants that have zippers that go up the leg at least as far as the knee. That would greatly simplify and speed up the process, especially with boots on. Does anybody know if such unobtainium is made by anybody? You know how it goes (at least here in Florida) you see rain up ahead so you pull over to get geared up....by the time you get stuffed into the rain gear the rain has disappeared and the sun is back out baking you alive. Then you have to decide whether to take the rain gear back off....if you do, it will probably start raining again.
  12. Mentions shotguns but no mention of rifles or handguns.....or hand grenades.
  13. Main issue with the auto train is you can only get on and off in two places: Sanford, FL and Lorton, VA. Lorton is on the edge of the Washington DC metro area so be prepared for heavy traffic getting out of there and escaping to the mountains.
  14. Got a nearly 100 mile ride in today. Rode over to the closest Rural King to test drive a tractor. Got home about 10 minutes before it started raining.
  15. Back when I had my Vulcan I had an office to go to every day. With my current job I work out of my house and travel across the country 5 days a week......or at least I did until March. Right now my daily commute involves walking from my bedroom at one end of the house to my office at the other end of the house. Looks like we will be back to limited travel soon, then my commute will involve driving to and from the airport. So, my RSV only gets ridden for fun and when it is as hot and rainy as it has been lately....well, that limits the fun.
  16. How do you like it compared to the Tom Tom Rider 550 you reviewed?
  17. I bought mine a year ago next month with 26,000 on the clock. My previous bike was a Vulcan 2000 that I bought new in '06 and put 40,000 miles on it in the two years I had it. Difference is, the Vulcan was my primary transportation to and from work (100 miles a day round trip, 5 days a week) in addition to riding for pleasure on the weekends. My RSV was bought purely as a toy. My wife and I took a 1,000 mile 5 day trip on it soon after purchasing it. Will likely do another one when the weather cools off. My bike is much better equipped now than it was last year......even has a trailer hitch and trailer now. That means my wife will pack a lot more.....
  18. Are the weights even needed? Previous owner removed them from my bike when installing Kuryakyn grips. I have no complaints.....
  19. I only have 30,000 on my '08. Sounds like I have some serious riding to do to catch up to you guys.
  20. I make use of the saddle bags and carry rider and passenger rain gear at all times. Rain tends to pop up suddenly here in Florida.
  21. Actually rode it for the first time in a couple of weeks. I was reminded of why I had not ridden it in a couple of weeks....it's too hot!
  22. Agreed! I have been very pleased with mine. They were even willing to customize the location of the vent to accommodate my storage pouches.
  23. I just figured out where I got the storage pouches from. I ordered them from leatherup.com
  24. I don't have any experience welding......yet....but as a former HVAC/R technician I do have experience brazing. Yes indeed brazing, like welding, is all about good prep and making the puddle of silver solder go where you want it. I am planning to purchase some acreage in about a year and a half. If I don't buy something with a workshop already on it I will build one. That should be all the excuse I need to buy a welding rig and learn. Still have my oxy/acetylene rig (with cutting torch) from my technician days.
