I have always gone by the belief that a bike can not have to many lights. With that said, You do not want to confuse the driver behind you. To many blinking lights in an unknown pattern may make that driver hesitate for a split second to long trying to figure out what the lights mean.

That’s a very good point @Flyinfool. Maybe just having the trunk light flash and then go solid is good enough.  I have an XKGLOW Pro Chrome led package on my bike @ trailer so that no matter what color I’m running the whole bike goes RED. Very hard to miss. This would just be an added. Probably tie one into the spoiler light on the trailer too.

I do not believe the SVTC has actual CANBUS, when I was designing my trailer harness set up I talked with the local Yamaha dealer's service manager about that and we looked at the wiring diagrams together and found no evidence of an actual CANBUS controller or computer.  There may be something in the ECU that senses voltage anomalies and sends some sort of alert, but that is not really CANBUS.  Where Electrical Connections and I plug into the rear lighting for the trigger source for the trailer isolator is a 12 volt line that goes direct to the bulb, so you should be able to interrupt the brake circuit there for that  LSC-100 modulator and not cause a problem. That modulator is $5.00 if it does not work,  take it out and put the wiring back as it was. Someone will buy the modulator off you.

Thanks @M61A1MECH.  Having a modulator that is only hooked to the trunk brake light is not a big deal. I was really asking  more about a “wig wag” module.  It causes all the lights to flash in a zig zag pattern before all going solid. I’ve seen them mostly on wings. Do you know what I’m referring to?

Thanks for that @revpat. Not sure what bike you’re using that on.

Remember the “wig-wag” modules seen on a lot of wings?  Wish I could find a way to adapt that for my SVTC. The electrical system is CANBUS so I’m not certain it would t cause an issue.

True on that one, will put that caveat in when I do that torque spec. Thanks for the reminder on that one. Haven’t done the drain bolts yet either and have done at least 4 oil changes, did add the magnetic dimple plugs and magnetic sleeve(s) for the oil filter.

Have done 12 oil changes on mine.  I keep a flange style automotive plug on hand in case the CC OEM plug breaks.

You are right.  This is the first time I noticed this.  The owner's  manual on page 9-15 states 3.2 qts in the engine and 2 qts in the crankcase with no mention if the oil filter is replaced....there has to be 2.4 qts instead of just 2 qts.  The engine is the same.  I have the bike with me here at work and I will ad 0.4 qts of oil to the crankcase as soon as I get back home.  I hope I didn't do any damage being 0.4 qts lower in the crankcase.  Thank You very much for the heads up.

Glad you visited and saw this. I was worried about you running around low oil!

Remember doing exactly what you were talking about with the green book in the Navy. That’s a blast from the past. 😁

On a side note, the torque spec for the  crankcase full plug is not accurate. If you tighten it to the specs listed it will break off by the second time you do it.   Basically lightly snug by hand. I use my fingers until it sears and then the Allen wrench I gently “tap” it once using 3 fingers.  Never had any leaks and have been doing that since the first one broke during my second oil change.

    Meant crankcase FILL plug.

    Also meant until it SEALS.

I have absolutely zero idea if this is even remotely related to what you are experiencing but can tell you for a fact, I have seen very similar things happen in the back room of my shop a few different times.  One example I can think of is having one of my employees working on a scoot, doing wheel bearings so the caliper is hanging from bungee cords. Another employee comes up and starts yapping and while he is yapping the brake lever gets activated enough (why someone would play with squeezing a brake while chatting I have no idea) to force the pads out and empty the master putting air in the system.. The mechanic doing the job thought it was odd that the pads were out when he went to put the wheel back on but didnt think past just forcing the pads back in and putting the caliper back on,, problem solved,, right?? Wrong.. Ended up having to bleed the system to get the air out of it AND,, this was on a system that liked to capture air at the high point (IMHO,, this is common but many really good mechanics do not agree with me on that) which required some tedious bleeding from banjo fittings and leaning the bike just right..  I know,, getting long winded here but I  really did want to let you know/answer your question concerning whether or not any of us clubbers have ever heard of such a thing. Bottom line,,, it happens IMHO. Maybe take it back in and let the dealership deal with it? Puc

I would agree with @cowpuc on this.

You didn’t have the “mushy” brake before you took it in and did after they did the job.

i replaced my pads at about 43k miles, but I probably didn’t need to. Still had half the pad thickness left, but I did go with EBC and not OEM. Reason for that was 4-6 weeks waiting for OEM pads! Not in stock?? I guess they don’t plan on anyone needing a common item.

Point I’m making is that I had no problems when done and didn’t have to bleed anything.

They messed it up, have them fix it.

Just what I was going to say. Here is the page from the service manual. He is .4 qts low on yer engine.2977E164-A424-423D-9CBD-A7EE895940B5.thumb.jpeg.480a28ab7bfc541938ed3e6a3a6ccbf0.jpeg

Yes Eric @ecbaatz    Many are under a false assumption that the oil will “level itself out” to what is needed in the crankcase and that is NOT the case. The scavenger pump cycles the oil but  the flow rate just keeps it at the level you filled it to. You can’t overfill the tank and under full the crankcase and think it’ll be ok. It won’t.

...so I was able to change the oil on the SVTC. It took me longer than expected, but I was able to get it done with no hiccups. At 4046 miles, the old oil sure did look pretty dirty and it was time. I managed to find an old gray pan in the garage that is low enough to place under the bike to collect oil. I’m good for another 4K miles. Also, I was able to use a Toyota filter remover on the SVTC and this made it easy to remove the oil filter. 2 qts in the crankcase and 3.2 qts in the oil pan as instructed. Here are some photo ops. Ride safe.

Hey @N3FOLI noticed you said you added 2qts to the crankcase. The manual states that with filter change to add 2.4qts to the crankcase and 3.2qts to the oil tank.  If you only added 2qts you’re actually running low in the CC. The system is not “self leveling”. The scavenger pump flows at a rate to keep the CC at the level that was put in there.  In other words, if you start out low, you stay low. That’s why it’s important to fill correctly and one of the reasons it says not to overfill it either.

Just thought I needed to share that, although everything I said is in the maintenance manual.

That worked awesome!! Are your video's on youtube?? If so, if you go to the video on youtube you want to post up,, scroll down and look under the video,, near the "like or not like" icons.. You see the "share" icon? Click on that.. Now copy/paste that URL into your post here.. Make sense?

    I’ll try again here @cowpuc

Found out what I did wrong. 😳

That does not surprise me Chief as I know the site is strickly primitive right now,, not sure vid links will work right now,, I will try one in this post and see what happens.. I know Don is taking a much deserved break but will be continuing the upgrade to our webpage as soon as possible when he returns.. I am pretty sure pictures still work though as I see a "choose files" icon at the bottom left of this page.. Tell you what,, in this post I will include a video of how I resize my pics when posting on the site. We have always been under the 1000x750 rule for pic size and usually to large of a pic is the number 1 cause for now being able to post pics.. I will also include a pic here to see if it works.. I am sure there are others as well as myself interested in seeing your ride stories!! Puc

Thanks @cowpuc, I tried that and it doesn’t want to accept it. I have a YouTube channel with videos I’ve shared often, but for some reason it doesn’t like it. 🤔

Cant wait to hear some of those stories!! Hope ya go endless pictures and videos cause,, even though Don is making some awesome changes around this joint, I highly suspect that the club code of "no pictures, it didnt happen" hasn't changed LOL!

In answer @cowpuc to how my summer riding has been, it’s been great right up until I had the motor replaced last month. Yea, you heard right. Thank God it was done under warranty!

Been still doing some stuff to the bike.

cant post a video but I’ll try a picture.

Hey there @cowpuc, yes I’ve got lots of stories, pics and videos. Speaking of videos, I just tried to start a new thread posting fall riding pics & videos but it won’t let me post the video. Not here or in the video section. I already reached out to Don about it.

The video is riding in stunning fall leaves on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the viaduct area.

  17. A lot of changes since I was last here!

Site looks a lot cleaner for sure, but before I try to comment on what I don’t see maybe I should give Don some time to get a rope around this here wild bronco called a “website”.

Appreciate what you’re doing Don to make it better👍

And yes @cowpuc this varmint has returned from the netherworld. 😁

Have lots of stories to share about my SVTC. Have I had some problems YUP, has Yamaha stepped up for each issue... another big YUP!

  18. WOW....great work. You are turning it into a show bike. :). I know you ride it though so there's nothing wrong with that. Love what you are doing.

Thanks Don! I do ride the heck out of it. You can see in the dash I’ve got over 22k miles on it! Yea, I see what you mean by “show bike”. My wife has always said I’m a “peacock”, so I guess I can’t argue with her. Lol!

Thats the great thing about bikes... we make them uniquely OURS. I do get a lot of the “holy cow!” remarks regarding the rig when the trailer is hooked up too. Every time I stop for gas, invariably someone comes up and comments or asks questions.

I have a dear military friend.. he & I served together, who is friends with the founder and another guy who is the current President of Rolling Thunder. Anyways, we’ve been invited to ride UP FRONT with them this year in THE LAST Washington DC Rally. It’s a great honor, so the bike is gonna get some HIGH visibility for sure. Should be a great time!
