  1. I wish we could be there. School is back in session in early August and that's the time frame when my prop business is hammered and it's all hands on deck to get the last shows out for the fall season. She is set on the Spring break trip in April as the youngest is going on a school trip so we're without kids for a week. I'm trying to put 2-3 routes together for that week so we can choose last minute depending on weather. Thanks for the invite, it's on my list for retirement in a couple years. We're gonna try to make Don's MD in June, and maybe one more before school starts this year.
  2. Hope all is well with your niece. I'd love to retire without ever seeing another one of these things.
  3. I'm hoping that the slow speeds there will distract her from the speeds we run the rest of the trip. This is sort of a test trip for her to see how much traveling we can do on the bike after retirement, we're both on the countdown. I think I've had about enough fires and wrecks and hope she's about done with the 3rd graders.
  4. That's my underhanded tricky plan to make her like the ride. I hope to spend a lot of time on the bike out west after we retire. I have to get her hooked on the bike and then figure out how to get her out of the classroom, teachers have a tendency to get addicted to the school and stay forever. I'm glad she enjoys her career but 30 years should be enough by my thinking. (then again I never was the star pupil)
  5. Yeah those high elevation temps are what I was wondering about. She loves the natural sights but not the cold.
  6. Boss wants to take a trip the 1st of April. I've heard a bit about the BRP and thinking of riding from somewhere around Asheville south and meandering over around Fall Creek Falls before heading home. Having never been there I'm wondering if it's an April Fools trip that early in the year. Are the temps usually warm enough by April to be playing up on the mountain or will she be smacking the back of my helmet all week to head south? The original plan was Florida but I don't want the whole time riding to get there in time to turn around and head home. This will be her first ride longer than a few hours so I need to make it good. No heated seats or gear.
  7. I've got it too. I just ordered the Skydoc kit. I installed it in my MKII with good results so going that route again. Ordered Mic-Mutes and Amplirider to make it a day of upgrades. :mo money:
  8. I have used cutoff wheels on a grinder to cut cast pipe cleanly and easily in the past. There are also abrasive reciprocating saw blades that do a decent job to cut it without breaking it.
  9. A lot of these bikes run way up the temp gauge before the fan kicks in. I would check for voltage and cross out the plug at the temp switch to test the fan before pulling it out. Might save some headache.
  10. Whaddya mean by that? I don't ever remember forgetting anything.:banana:
  11. 34 and rain today. Had a one afternoon riding season.
  12. We usually don't have enough cold weather to keep us parked more than a week or two at a time, not so this year. Hoping it gets a little better soon. We're planning a trip south the 1st week of April, and trying to free up time to make Freebird's MD. Getting a little stir crazy right now.
  13. This pic is at Kenlake State Park. We're about an hour east of the Mississippi River. (45 minutes on the 1st gen)
  14. One warm and dry afternoon finally. 25-30 mph winds but still a good afternoon. Wet and cold coming back tomorrow.

    great rendition

Cool you found this from our southern state. Very talented high school choirs came together for this.
  16. All good info so far, check the exhaust pipes to see if its running on all four cylinders.
  17. At about the same height as you I find the feet forward ride on my RSV is a lot more comfortable than my 86. I have a blast on the 1st gen for short rides around a couple of hours, then I have to park a while. I took the RSV 830 miles to Daytona only stopping long enough for fuel. My old knees and back enjoy the comfort.
  18. Congrats. I know what it's like juggling 2 jobs when you're running one of them. I've got 2 more years of that before I can take early retirement from the fire service. I can only imagine the stress level you've dealt with doing what you've done for your brother in law. Kudos to you. Now enjoy the benefits of being self employed while dealing with the headaches of self employment. Once that balance is reached there's nothing Better.
  19. I'd go this route because I'm sure riding a motorcycle in California or with California tags could cause cancer. I bet it's even in the owners manual.
  20. Experiment with volume settings to cut wind noise through the mics. I've tried the balloon trick that didn't really work for me, has helped some people. I'm getting ready to order the mic mutes for that and an Amplirider to adjust phone volume. The tech library has write ups I used to link a GPS, phone, and a Bluetooth receiver to the factory setup so I can use the phone, stream music, and get directions through the headsets along with the intercom. I'll probably use the mic mutes to turn off the back seat directions too.
  21. 10+ years on a battery? Don't know if I've ever got 10 years out of two.
  22. 2 students have died, 14 injured. Pray for families.
  23. Please keep Marshall County Ky students in your prayers. 20 years ago this school shooting trend started at Heath HS. One county over from Marshall. Now it's come back to our area. It's not the time for gun control debates or placing blame, just prayers and support.
  24. A Hardley without a tool kit? Never heard of such a thing. Sorta like a skydiver without a parachute. :rotfl:Now I gotta admit I carry a saddlebag full on my Yam.
  25. Air Force museum near Fort Walton Beach after we got chased out of Daytona by the weather. The only long ride I got in this year, but it was a great 1900 miles. Wind so strong the ocean was sideways.
