Duplicate Paint
Flyinfool replied to Donvito's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The Toyota color was just to get close, they then added some of this and some of that till it was just right. there is no recipe for the color it was custom. You just need to find the paint store that supplies local body shops, they will be able to match it. I brought in a saddle bag cover and they matched it while I waited. -
Electronically Challenged..............

There is a way to test parts of the RR. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=81297 -
Rev it up,,..Voltage Drops,..

If you are going to attempt the trip, make sure you pack a set of jumper cables and a battery charger for the bike, and a battery charger for your phone, and the VR assistance list. If it goes out all together, you could be stranded in the middle of nowhere with a dead battery. I would also rig up a volt meter to keep an eye on things. If it is the RR that is going, They can fail either short or open, While failing open is the most common failure mode and will only result in a discharged battery, IF it fails short, it can fry out most of the electronics on the bike fairly quickly. Bottom line, I would not head out on a trip with a known issue that has the potential of leaving me stranded and ruining the trip. -
Charging question for the electrical folks
Flyinfool replied to Squidley's topic in General Tech Talk
Yes a bad RR can take out a stator. A bad stator can take out a RR. You need to run thru the whole test procedure. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=81297 -

Here is a step by step to test the charging system. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=81297 -
It is also a big coincidence that they have the same street address and phone number as HID country did. and exactly the same product line. The Lifetime warranty did not say whose lifetime.... It must have meant HID Countries Lifetime. I have 7 HID lights that I bought from HID Country, I am very happy with all of them. When I bought the last set, the person I spoke with on the phone, told me that the lifetime warranty is not worth the money. But now I need to buy another 6 HIDs, 4 for the truck and 2 for the bike.....

None of these things would burn out 4 bulbs on 2 different circuits, and cook the radio and fuel pump also on separate circuits, all at the same time. A short could toast the battery but not everything else. That is the easiest test that can be performed on the bike, If it takes them more than 1 minute, they are milking it. Just hook up a voltmeter across the battery and read the voltage with the bike running at over 2,000 RPM, it is either right around 14 Volts DC (+/- 0.5V) AND 0 Volts AC or not. It almost sounds like they are just fixing the symptoms and not looking for the real problem. High voltage and/or an AC component getting thru is the only thing I can think of that would impact so many unrelated things all at once. If it is a blown regulator that is letting the full stator voltage thru, or if the rectifier is letting AC power thru, it WILL very quickly fry everything electrical on the bike $$$. You need to verify this BEFORE you pay to fix or replace anything else.

reverse available? aftermarket
Flyinfool replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I was looking at building a reverse for my 88 a while back. But It would require loosing the passenger seat so I never pursued it. -
:sign yeah that: You put a 15 year old rubber gasket back in that was already leaking???? Might as well get two gaskets, if the rear one dried out enough to leak, the front is not far behind it. I would also agree with Marcarl, replace the rubber seals on all of the valve cover bolts. Hey it should go easier this time, you now experienced.....
-
With all of those unrelated things blowing, I would start with a voltage check to see if the RR is no longer regulating. Without the RR working the stator can put out 20 to 100 volts, this can cook a lot of things.
-
Noise dont bother me. I live next to a RR crossing, in the landing pattern near an international airport with a loud bar across the street.
-
You obviously have never camped near me and my personal black cloud I bring everywhere.....
-
I'll have to go and get me some more. It is getting close to that time of year that any ride now could be the last one of the year.
-
How about just plain "CAMPING". It would be a good place to discuss not only trip plans but equipment also.

One of them was known as Sister Mathematical (SM), And the other one was known as Sister Logical (SL) . It is getting dark and they are still far away from the convent. SM: Have you noticed that a man has been following us for The past thirty-eight and a half minutes? I wonder what he wants. SL: It's logical. He wants to rape us. SM: Oh, no! At this rate he will reach us in 15 minutes At the most! What can we do? SL: The only logical thing to do of course is to walk faster. SM: It's not working. SL: Of course it's not working. The man did the only Logical thing. He started to walk faster, too. SM: So, what shall we do? At this rate he will reach us in one minute. SL: The only logical thing we can do is split. You go that way and I'll go this way. He cannot follow us both. So the man decided to follow Sister Logical. Sister Mathematical arrives at the convent and is Worried about what has happened to Sister Logical. Then Sister Logical arrives. SM: Sister Logical! Thank God you are here! Tell me what happened! SL: The only logical thing happened. The man couldn't follow us both, so he followed me SM: Yes, yes! But what happened then? SL: The only logical thing happened. I started to run As fast as I could and he started to run as fast as he could. SM: And? SL : The only logical thing happened. He reached me. SM : Oh, dear! What did you do? SL : The only logical thing to do. I lifted my dress up. SM : Oh, Sister! What did the man do? SL: The only logical thing to do. He pulled down his pants. http://f1638.mail.vip.gq1.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=2%5f0%5f0%5f1%5f2386824%5fAEBmw0MAAA1DUlGmNQAAAGOWi2o&pid=2.3&fid=Inbox&inline=1&appid=yahoomail SM: Oh, no! What happened then? SL : Isn't it logical, Sister? A nun with her dress up can run faster than a man with his pants down. And for those of you who thought it would be dirty, Say two Hail Marys! http://f1638.mail.vip.gq1.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=2%5f0%5f0%5f1%5f2386824%5fAEBmw0MAAA1DUlGmNQAAAGOWi2o&pid=2.4&fid=Inbox&inline=1&appid=yahoomail

Yes stepping voltage up or down is pretty simple and inexpensive until you throw high amperage into the equation. Current handling costs money. I have never had a lithium battery last more than a couple years. Starter current and high rate charging is whats hard on them. On the other hand, Lithium technology is advancing in leaps and bounds, I will certainly not claim to be up on all of the latest and greatest developments. But I do have trouble believing manufacturer claims of things that can not be tested. The only way to test for a 7 year life will take 7 years to test. In 7 years this will be old technology. Lithium batteries when burning can provide their own oxygen for the fire, once started they are hard to put out and burn very aggressively. Lead and battery acid are not easily burned. Reading the info on the Shorai website is interesting and even confirms some of what we have been saying. Over charge or discharge is "Dangerous". If you accidentally leave something on the bike turned on and kill the battery, It is junk and not covered under warranty. As well as "Dangerous" (Possible fire?) Never let the battery sit for more than 2 weeks in the bike without being driven or on their charger. Non warranty damage can occur. If you put it in storage mode it can sit for a year IF you keep it in your refrigerator at 34*F. The battery does not like a real winter, below 40°F you have to go through a "Wake up" (warm up) procedure before cranking. The charger has a "Storage Mode" this is a mode where the battery is held at 50% charge for storage. So you then have to charge the battery before you can jump on and ride. The battery does not like to be stored fully charged and ready to go. The battery will never be fully charged by the bikes electrical system, only their charger will get the battery up to 100% charge. On the other hand, with what I know about cell resistance and discharge curves. There are some distinct advantages to the LIPO batteries. A battery of similar performance will be a lot smaller and lighter than its equivalent Pb battery. I just do not know if the current technology is quite ready for prime time YET. And at $276 or $350, plus a required $85 charger. I can keep the bike in lead acid batteries for the next 20+ years.

I would be pro active. Call the local police to see if a report was filed, if it was, then get a copy for your records. The Police report would be proof that you had the package delivered and he lost it after it was in his possession. That and the delivery conformation from UPS should get you off the hook with PP. The catch that you have to watch for is if he paid PP using a CC. , they can pull the money regardless of what PP thinks. If the CC pulls the money from PP, PP will pass that loss on to you. If he files a complaint with his CC company the CC companies are even more generous with your money than PP. The other question, Is this guy a member of this forum? Good luck.

I used to have an antenna, but since that new BIG building went up across the street I can not get any channels over the air.
-
That is one of the reasons that I keep a near $0 PP balance and have it tied to a checking account that is also maintained near $0. There is nothing for PP to tie up if someone tries to scam me.

But then on the other hand, with my Direct TV, I am now staring at a blank screen because it is raining out.
-
Yup, Garage door opener and a regulated power supply. Just pull it out and toss it, odds are it will not work with your door.
-
I just switched from cable to Direct TV. I called the cable co to see about getting my bill lowered and they said there is nothing they can do to lower my bill. I said I was going to switch to U-verse and the cable co already knew it was not available in my area, and even told me so. So I canceled and went with DSL and Direct TV. the bill is about half of what cable was. Once the "new customer" rates expire and the bill goes up. I will switch back to cable as a new customer. Both the cable and Direct TV seem to have reception issues during big storms. They both get their feed from a satellite.

Go ahead and sent that on east when you are done with it. I'm itching to go play in some snow with my new 4x4 truck.

A lot depends on the neighborhood. UPS has no problem leaving a package on my front porch in plain sight of anyone walking by. I live 3 blocks from the high school. At least 50% of packages delivered are gone by the time I get home from work. I had to sign a paper with UPS that all deliveries to my house require an adult signature. When the delivery fails because I am at work, they leave a yellow sticky on the door. I then go down to the UPS office to pick it up in person after showing my photo ID with address. Some neighborhoods are the opposite, they will not leave anything without a signature. As far as responsibility, if it comes down to a PP or CC dispute, you have the documentation that UPS did in fact deliver it, If the buyer then lost it that is not leagally your problem. But then the what feels like the right thing for you to do beyond what is legal will vary by the individual and their beliefs. FWIW, I once dealt with a buyer that claimed his package was damaged in shipping. I filed a claim with FedEX because the shipper is the only one that can. FedEX then sent someone out to his house to look at the damage and the buyer refused to show it to the FedEX agent, FedEX then notified me that they were refusing the claim and also told me that this individual has filed a claim for $125 on each of the last 6 packages delivered to that address. In other words the buyer was scamming $125 off the price of every big item he bought and now got busted. Since you have the UPS documentation to show that you did your part and had it delivered, Only you are left to make the determination as to; 1st, Do you believe him about it being stolen? 2nd Do you feel like absorbing part of HIS loss? The banks will/should side with you if he files a claim. I would print out copies of the UPS delivery notice to save for future reference. AS far as insurance, I usually buy insurance on expensive items. I've seen to many things not make it in one piece or even just never make it.
