  1. Oh Man! I'm really sorry! Good Luck with the surgery and heal quickly!
  2. When I owned an 83 750 Yamaha Virago, I decided that I didn't like vibrating underpowered V-twins. Make mine a smooth, powerful, high revving 4 or 6. I too like that rush of power when it is winding out. I was an avid hot rodder back in my day and still have the need for speed!
  3. I took a boxing PE course in college. It gave me new appreciation for the conditioning of those professional boxers. We boxed two one minute rounds and we were exhausted because we went all out. I could not imagine going 12 3 minute rounds!
  4. $300 is just over 1% of the cost of the bike, pocket change for those who can afford to buy a new Stratoliner bagger.

    Eclipse

It just happened here. Supposed to have been 96% eclipse. The sunshine wasn't quite as bright as normal but not that much difference. Seemed just a little eerie.
  6. I would like it better if they had installed a temperature controlled fan on the oil cooler. That would give it some hope of not overheating the oil when stuck in traffic on a hot day.
  7. When I bought my 89 after trailering it home, the ignition switch wouldn't turn. I sprayed WD40 into the keyhole and it worked fine since then. WD40 displaces water but some don't like it because they say it builds up a gummy deposit.
  8. I bought one off ebay from Pinwall for about $50. It was used on a 96 RSTD with 30 something thousand miles on the bike they were parting out. The really neat thing about Pinwall is that they video the bike on a dyno before disassembling it.
  9. Are the leaner peaks at 55mph and 72 when the gears were shifted? I assume he let up on the throttle when shifting and the mixture might go leaner at that point. The initial lean readings were when he first opened the throttle? Right? It might take a short time to go rich. I'm not sure you need to do anything to the carbs but I'm no expert for sure.
  10. They talk about the cams and carbs up top causing the engine to be taller on the Vmax. True, but the stroke of the V4 is much less reducing that height too. If they tuned the Vmax engine for more low end and made it in a dry sump model it would sit low too. Lots of excuses for making a cheaper engine and blaming the reason on technology. I can understand the Vtwin design selection much better than I can understand the air cooled decision. I think the reason they went with air cooling is because it "looks" better. When it comes to motorcycles, I suppose Harley has proved that looks and sound mean more than engineering.
  11. From watching the promotional films, I got the impression that they rode air cooled Vtwin Yamahas, Road Stars or something like that. That is what the films showed anyway.
  12. I suppose sturgis is where they got all their advice on what to offer with a new "Venture".
  13. Facebook, Google, Twitter, all communist left controlled.
  14. Going on past memory, you need about a 12 to 1 A/F ratio for full throttle operation and that appears to be what you have or richer in the upper ranges. Those diaphragms should have the metering rods completely pulled out on full throttle runs. As I remember, you need almost 18 to 1 A/F ratio for best part throttle fuel economy. Engines with O2 sensors and computer controls control the A/F ratio at 14.7 to 1 because that is the ratio where the O2 sensors start detecting O2. And that is a good ratio for low CO and low NO. NO goes up with lean ratios.
  15. I've put a whole bottle of Gumout for high mileage engines in one 3 1/2 gallon tank and run it through my Kawasaki and it didn't hurt the carbs. It didn't completely clean them either so I did have to clean the jets and emulsion tubes mechanically. I had let it sit for over a year without draining the carbs.
  16. My favorite gas additive fuel injector cleaner which I also use in my bikes is Gumout for high mileage engines with PEA. I've used enough of it to be convinced it does not harm bike carbs. I just saw this test report on a F150 site. https://www.f150online.com/forums/other-powertrain/515021-win-gumout-prize-package.html
  17. Congratulations! You gotta love it when a plan comes together.
  18. Puc, did you remember to ask the tech what the maximum allowable oil temperature is? Evidently, it is 410 degrees F for a Harley.
  19. Love those blond 1st Gens!
  20. First Gens 91, 92, and 93 have 4 brush starters from what I've read. And all of the RSTDs and 2nd Gens have 4 brush starters.
  21. I would buy the Fury brand half helmet that Walmart sells but it only comes in black and I would prefer a lighter color. They are inexpensive. Ideally, I want a wine color to match my Kawa and it's close to matching my Yama. Wearing a half helmet is almost like not wearing a helmet.
  22. So happy you survived with no injurys! I hope you have some help from the insurance co. on the repairs. I ran over a retread with my Dodge Magnum and it cracked the rubber nose. Ended up costing me over $600 to repair the damage. I was lucky I suppose no radiator hoses or radiator was damaged. The Magnum does have a belly pan that may have helped.
  23. Well, he did have the chance when Jon left to join the Night Watch but didn't for some reason.
