  1. May not help but I would put a bottle of Seafoam or my favorite, Gumout for high mileage engines with PEA, in a tank of gas and run it through. I suspect (just wild guessing here) though that your bike may be experiencing weak spark after it gets hot. Could you test the spark when it starts running rough? It's hard to check on all of the exhaust pipes on a Gen 2, but if you could check the exhaust pipes temperatures, it may tell you what cylinders are not firing. I have one of those infrared thermometers and it is a big help with this. I think they are as cheap as about $20 on line or at harbor freight. I paid a bit more for mine at Autozone.
  2. What model are we talking about?
  3. For some reason I thought that if the clutch was disengaged, dropping the side stand should not kill the engine. Either way is okay I suppose. Thanks
  4. As a follow-up to this thread, I did bleed the clutch line and the clutch disengages without pulling the lever in all the way now. I have not replaced the slave cylinder but it is on my list. However, if the bike is in gear with the clutch lever pulled in all the way, the bike still shuts off when I put the side stand down. Is that normal?
  5. Yeah, we all know the RSV has a very powerful rear brake that is easily locked up. The rear tire is a Dunlop Elite 3 and it appeared to have good grip on the dry road.
  6. Wow! That was unusual. Would have made a great video if it could have been filmed.
  7. Today I rode the RSV to the monthly Brunswick Nuclear Plant retiree luncheon which was about 38 miles away. Leaving Wilmington I was going around a left hand curve that was sort of blind by the trees on the inside in a 55 mph zone behind a Ford Escape when a road worker ran out in the road to retrieve a cap. He saw he was going to be run over so he turned and ran back. The Ford Escape driver slammed on his brakes and I got on my brakes very hard with the rear tire singing. I feel fortunate I didn't lock up the rear tire. I avoided hitting the Escape but I definitely had visions of stopping and punching out that highway worker! Be vigilant guys! Idiots abound!
  8. You may be correct but I have a set of those T-handle allen wrenches and they seem to do the job.
  9. will these work? https://www.harborfreight.com/hand-tools/hex-wrenches/10-pc-metric-t-handle-hex-key-set-69370.html
  10. My first bike was a new 71 CB350. Actually it was a 70 model that was titled 71. It was a great starter bike. The drive chain on that thing needed adjustment really often. I sold it after 6 months because I considered it too small and about a year later, I bought a 73 CB750. I loved that bike. I've got a photo somewhere . If I can find it, I'll post it.
  11. What! No power seats? No dual zone climate control? Congratulations! That 6 cyl engine is one of Ford's best ever engines. Hope you have lots of fun with her! I keep my old 2002 F150 4x4 mainly because we like to drive out on the 4 mile stretch of beach close by to enjoy the water and fish during the summer.
  12. Lifting the front wheel at 193mph with a top speed of 217mph. Nah, I'll call BS on that one.
  13. I still wonder if the denniskirk pump is the same?
  14. Well Darn! No American Graffitti for you! You woulda looked cool crusing around CA in that car!
  15. I suppose I have to wonder if this pump is any different from the one on ebay for half as much?
  16. I've learned a lot too about RSV fuel pumps. I searched and read most if not all of the threads on RSV fuel pumps. I haven't ridden the RSV much yet and I'm not that familiar with it. Last year I was hindered by Shingles that caused a numb weak left knee. I hope to remedy that situation this year but my lower back is giving me fits lately. Sucks to be 75 sometimes. Hope to ride a little every non-rainy day from here on. Onwards and Upwards!
  17. I'm embarassed to admit that you are correct and for the first time, sometime before this incident, I had turned the fuel valve to the off position. I turned the fuel on a few minutes ago an the pump clicked normally and it fired right up! I'm a big dummy! If the fuel pump clicks at high speed again, I suppose I might be able to remember the cause? I usually ride my smaller Kawasaki around town and it has one of those vacuum operated fuel valves that shut off when the vacuum goes away so I never think about the fuel valve. Oh well, humbled again!
  18. So sad. People don't realize how they are endangering lives when they blow grass clippings on the highway. I went down one time because of a muddy driveway. The person who lived there left lots of mud on the road and it contributed to me going down. I broke my ankle and damaged the bike a bit but nothing non-recoverable. I fought the skid and that allowed the bike to slow down quite a bit before hitting the pavement.
  19. I just took the side cover off exposing the fuel pump. When I went to re-install the bolts so I wouldn't lose them, I had to chuckle when I realized that one of the bolts is just for looks and is only bolted into the side cover. I ordered those points from ebay so I hope they fix the issue. So I have a question for the electrical experts. Would a capacitor wired across the points keep the points from burning up while allowing them to power the pump? Flyinfool?????? If I remember correctly, that is why the old cars with point type ignition had a "condenser" wired across the points.
  20. Update. I just started the bike a couple of times. The fuel pump is no longer clicking at all and the bike will start and run for a second or two. The tank is not rusty and I opened the tank and there was no vacuum on it and it's almost full. Sooo, I'm fairly certain the fuel pump points are the problem? Famous last words!
  21. Thanks Mike G, So the #18-4615 point set will fit an RSV? The RSV is not listed as one of the bikes that it will fit.
  22. Thanks for the responses. Maybe I do need to do a little more checking. But, has anyone tried one of these pumps? They are advertised to fit the Venture. https://www.ebay.com/itm/FUEL-PUMP-FITS-YAMAHA-ROYAL-STAR-MIDNIGHT-VENTURE-1300-XVZ1300-2002-2007/271850120121?epid=561039002&hash=item3f4b87a3b9:g:EaoAAOSweW5VO8Wa:sc:USPSPriority!28409!US!-1
  23. I finally got around to bleeding my 07 RSV's clutch. That went well and it appears the clutch engages with less lever throw now. However, my plan to go for a ride was stopped when I had the bike running while warming up and it cut off and wouldn't start. I let it sit for a few minutes thinking maybe the engine is flooded because it was idling on full choke. After a few, when I hit start, the fuel pump slow clicking was a very fast clicking and it would start and run for a few seconds and cut off again. I assume this is a failure of the fuel pump points? Sound right? Dang it! The bike has 23k miles on it. Do the points fail that quickly usually? I just looked at partzilla and I assume the points are inside the pump. Where can you buy the points separately? ebay?
  24. You'd look cool riding around it that Condor. You'd feel like you were in the movie American Graffitti!
  25. Sounds like a great idea IF it doesn't get heated too much by the exhaust pipe.
