  1. Mine looked perfect before they put it on. If you use it just keep an eye on it.
  2. The Avon rep told me not buy anything over 2 years old.
  3. I know this has been talked about many times but I'm going to bring it up again. I think it's important. The 2nd day out on our 3 week vacation this summer I picked 2 nails in the rear tire on a Sunday. The only shop open was 150 miles away, so we plugged it and took off. When I finally got there I had two choices a Metzler or an Avon, I choose the Avon. I heard all the stories about the Metzler. The Yamaha dealer in Redding, Ca. was great, they got me in and out and took good care of me. Now the rest of the story. I am a Michelin Commander guy and the combination with the Avon never felt right. This past weekend I finally got a new Commander and pulled the rear wheel off to change the tires. Well to my suprise the Avon had cracks in the center of the tire and some small ones on the sidewall. Turns out the tire was 5 years old when I bought it. I was just lucky I took it off when I did. I never saw the cracks with the tire on the bike. Emailed Avon and they agreed it was dry rot, but they won't warranty any over 5 years old. Emailed the dealer I bought the tire from, Redding Yamaha Seadoo, and they are going to take care of me. Long story short, check those DOT codes before you put the tire on the bike.
  4. My wife and I in the California Redwoods on our way home from Vancouver Island this summer.
  5. I bought a Samsung Series 6 1080p at Best Buy about a month ago. With DirecTV HD it is amazing. When I was researching tv's, the Panasonic Plasmas where highly rated as well and I just saw a Sears add today that had a 50" Panasonic 80U for $899. Definitely do not buy the HDMI cables at the retail store. Buy them online for a fraction of the cost. Popular Mechanics did a test and couldn't find a deference between the $10 cable and the $100 cable.
  6. Just use a ratchet and a 17mm socket. The socket fits the end of the spark plug wrench that came with the bike. That's how I do mine.
  7. I just did my clutch a couple of weeks ago and I didn't use anything on the new gasket. Gone about 500 miles since and no leaks.
  8. Did the upgrade today and I just got back from a good test ride. I really like the way the bike shifts now, smoother than before. I hardly notice the stronger pull, but there is a little. I won't even notice next time I ride, it's all good. The change out was as easy as everyone said. It took about 2 hours because I just wanted to be sure of everything. I won't take that long if I ever do it again. I had my laptop in the garage and just followed the instructions on the tech page. Another satisfied customer.
  9. UPS delivered my parts from PCW today and I just went through it. I ordered the clutch spring kit and new friction plates. The clutch spring kit was a new spring and the extra friction plate wrapped together, but in separate packaging, along with a new gasket. The friction plate had the Yamaha stock number on it and it was on top, so I can see how one might think it all was stock Yamaha parts. The spring had no number on it. The number on the single friction plate matched all the others. The package, with shipping to California was $165. The Barnett, with everything, was around $240 plus tax around here. I called the dealer and they wanted $187 labor to do the job. So this was the way to go I think. I don't think I will have any trouble with the installation, the instructions included and the post in the tech section cover things pretty good. I should get to it this weekend, so I will post the results after a test ride. Thanks again for the help.
  10. Ordered parts from PCW today. They were great to talk to and were very helpful. I will let you know how the install goes. Thanks
  11. Thanks, sounds like PCW is the way to go. I'll give them a call. I have an inch pound torque wrench so that will be no problem.
  12. I am planning to replace my clutch, but after reading all the threads on the subject I am a little confused. I am planning on using the Barnett clutch spring and plates. The service manual calls for a new o-ring, ball and retaining wire. Do you use these parts with the Barnett clutch upgrade? The thread in the tech section said not to use a few parts but I'm not sure if it was for the Barnett or not. After 61k of riding 2 up and towing a trailer it has begun to slip and I don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon, so I am going to replace every thing. I should of had the dealer do this when they changed the clutch basket a couple of years ago. I live a long way from anywhere I can get parts so I need to have everything before I start. Thanks for your help.
  13. I just moved mine to the grab bars with a couple of cable ties. It's out of the way and my wife has no problem hooking up.
  14. Mine is an 01 with 57k. Two rear shocks and the clutch basket replaced under warranty. Just do the regular maintenance and ride.
