IIRC you can move the trunk back an inch on the 2nd gen. Don't recall how, just that there are two sets of allen head bolts on each side of the inside of the trunk with three holes each... and yes, the ABS will crack if you torque it too much.

a little embarrassing to drop it in the parking lot with the wife on the back and hear cheering and clapping. Looking up I realized the local bike club was having a meeting on a hill overlooking the store parking lot and had seen the whole thing... try to live that one down...

Dingy, I recently saw that another OH QSL has banned colors (even "soft colors" as in ABATE, Legion, etc. patches). Might check and see if the Vermillion location has the same rule and let everyone know.

ok, where to start. Been there done that. tip: work very slow. I used water to cool the bit at I drilled. I've made or modified quite a few shields over the years and that is the best advice I can give you.... Had a Clearview, it was OK. didn't like the vent. after time it started to open on it's own. and forget about riding in rain with the vent. Bugs must think it's a target... Tried a Baggershield. nice concept except I like to be able to see the road in front of me. the dark (almost black) lower part is a real bugger to see through. even with the clear upper part on I got a lot of buffeting. Passenger hated it. F4 Custom. Like it pretty well. Would like it even more if it was about 2" shorter and re-curved lip. have talked to them about trying one and they won't budge right now (i guess unless there is enough demand for it.) Really like the rain shedding of the shield, so having to look through isn't to much of an issue. Little or no buffeting for me or passenger. Cut down stock 3". like it except it scratches easily. definitely not an F4 Custom but I like being able to see over. I use this one primarily in late summer. 0.02

From the "For what it's worth department" I installed a HD rack on my RSV without any issues. It does sit at a slight angle (in line with the trunk profile) but is perfectly suited for the intended purpose and having found an NOS one purchased at a greatly reduced price.

I too would agree with the headsets. We actually talk more on the bike than we do when at home or in the car. Once she asked me why and stupid me said something dumb like "cause I don't have to look at ya" and immediately got smashed upside the head. 'course we had a good laugh and cruised on. Like Puc said, being relaxed is part of the journey. I told her to let me worry about the road; you take pictures, talk, sing, talk to your mum on the phone if'n ya want, do what ever and have a good time. Me, I'll crank up my tunes and ride...

1st-LED headlight, passing lamps and driving lights (boy, they can see me comin' for a mile!) 2nd- Satellite radio. beats the crap out of trying to find a decent FM radio station or fiddlin' with the iThingy on those long days on the road.

I built one out of expanded steel and angle iron. I still need to add some lights but it works great. Does help to have the under trunk lights...

How about working with Aerostich or such to offer a full set of gear (helmet, armored jacket, armored pants, gloves, boots and rain gear). Everyone could use a replacement set at one point or another...

Kydex is not pliable enough to sew. Typically used to heat mold for pistol holster and knife sheaths. Thought about thin ABS? like 1/32"

I can listen and talk. if there is music playing it cuts it out as long as it is running through the SM10. I generally don't do that though as it isn't stereo, I'll cut the music down if I'm on the CB.

I use the SMR10R on both our helmets. Hers is FF and mine 3/4" we hear each other fine (too well at times, LOL). I like the 10R because it is a lot lower profile and the separate battery can be replaced easily if it goes bad. Mics are crisp and clear. Sound quality from the speakers they come with is good even at 80mph. Have it paired with the SM10 that is wired to the 5 pin so I can use the CB.

I have tried the SM10 but get an echo which is rather distracting. Where did you get the 5 pin conector from? When I talked to Sena they said they didn't offer for Yamaha so I had to wire up mine DIY.

If you go with the Sena, give some thought to the SMH10R. They are low profile and have a separate battery that can be replaced if it goes bad. The low profile has kept me from getting hung up on my jacket. Fairly easy to learn to use.

I have the Sena headsets also and have been trying to wire up the SR10 to the 5 pin. I get an echo, but can listen to and talk on the CB as well as BT to the phone and intercom. If I ever get the echo to go away I'd be really happy.

Hey Puc, Mine was a '73 XLCH right hand shift. got it in '86 from a fellow AF rider for a song and a dance. Over the years it went through several incarnations, rebuilt and bored out to 1200. In '88 I rode to Texas via Sturgis. Blew the entire electrical system just outside of Spearfish. Rebuilt the whole thing right there in the campground and went on to Texas, 2 up mind you. Hail storm/Tornado in Colorado, dust storm in west Texas. Couple of trips out west to Washington state and down the PCH to San Diego to visit family then across to TX and MS. Never changed oil, leaked enough all I did was keep adding. Sometimes would get a little worried when I couldn't find any place with a couple quarts open at 2 in the morning LOL. That sporty was a lot of fun, got me in trouble a few times LOL. Had to sell it back in '01 due to financial difficulties (hard to pay 2 alimonies and child support)... Got to PA after I retired from the AF in '03. picked up a little 250 Rebel to get me through the itch to ride. Even road it to FL and TX a couple of times. Life is good on the road. Never really was too much into the 'biker' movies. was having too much fun making my own adventures. sure do miss that. I cherish those times now a days when I do get to stretch out and let the wind carry me whichever way. Lucky I have a partner now that understands and is even getting more and more into riding (sometimes it takes some people a lot of time to fully understand the passion...) Puc, man do I enjoy reading your posts. reminds me of when I had time to ride straight through 30 days of leave without a care of which way the wind took me. Always was a sad day to have to get back to base. Had a little sporty back then that did every state west o the Mississippi. Great fun, great memories. Hopin for the day when I can call this work-a-day mundane life done with and start livin again. keep on adventurin and writin.

In think one of the best rides I ever had was the day my spousal unit decided that she wanted to go for a ride with me. Before, she vowed never to get on a bike again, something to do with a close friend getting hurt bad when she was younger. I never questioned it nor forced the issue. I just know that I love to ride and have for over 40 years and she could see this. (We've only been married for 14 years) The day I brought the Venture home and parked it in the drive she came out to look at it. She stood there for a long time eyeballin' that big ol back seat. Something to the effect of 'that looks pretty comfortable' and that was the last of it. For about 2 months... One nice spring Saturday morning she says to me "wanna go for breakfast?". Sure, why not, grabbing the car keys. "wanna take the bike?". Say huh? You wanna go on the bike? "Yes". Quick, let me get a helmet and jacket and set up the intercom before she changes her mind... So off to breakfast we scoot. 40 miles. Never a complaint, rode fine, chatty the whole way. Funny, She commented that we never talked that much when in a car, or really even at home. I quipped that it was because I didn't have to look at her. Smack! on the helmet! Laugh... Great breakfast. Then she says "let's take the long way back". So I took her up through some twisty hill country that had lots of scenery. 150 miles more til we get home. Didn't want to push it too much, first time in a very long time on the back of a bike... She gets off and I don't think I have ever seen her grin like that. Made me glad I never forced the issue with her. And the rest, as they say, has been and will be miles of smiles...
