  1. Raggy,, just noticed this,, is this what you are talking about? https://www.ebay.com/itm/00-Yamaha-XVZ-1300-XVZ1300-Royal-Star-Venture-intercom-radio-control-switch/312267727801?hash=item48b49b63b9:g:xZkAAOSwT0pbxdLb

  3. Our friend Patch asked for this one to be played!!! Dedicated to Patch wayyyyyy up there in Kanuckian Land!! Here ya go brother,, Johnny Cash at his finest!!!
  4. :sign yeah that: MY NEW MANTRA = "TRUTH MATTERS"!! Living here in the land of the free and living thru these recent attacks by globalist and socialist who have the intent of forcing our great republic (speaking of the U.S.A.) onto a sinking ship they call a better way of life, has taught me something - that being that they will stop at nothing to bring down and erase from existence any remaining knowledge of this great land of freedom = freedoms last chance.. With that said and totally believing the above to be the case,, anytime I set out to read an article that has the potential for being politically charged and/or have political motivation, I ALWAYS investigate where it came from, who is writing it and what type of organization backs it.. Having done so with this article, I discovered that it's basic foundation is born right out of Frisco, an area of the U.S. that is very well known for its extreme socialist, Anti-America stands and firm leanings to turn our country into a Socialistic society.. I also found that "Wired",, the Website which hosted the interview, is also of the same denomination of which I completely find repulsive from a political standpoint.. Being one to believe in fairness though and in a bold attempt to remain open minded concerning the article itself,,, I did actually read the complete interview.. While there were some interesting points made indeed that may hold some truths,, there were also some political swipes made against my country and her POTUS that I must take issue with. Lets start here: direct copy/paste from interview: Because we pulled out of the World Health Organization? We haven’t pulled out of the World Health Organization. [laughs] It’s not even clear how you pull out of the World Health Organization. Distancing ourselves is probably a better word. It just makes us look like clowns. WHO is stronger than ever. The rest of the world has rallied to its side. The Trump Administration was not in the meetings where WHO was raising $8 to $12 billion just to help plan for the vaccination program. America’s money has been replaced by other countries donating it. And with it will come the inevitable soft power that comes with funding. The readers of the interview were never told about WHY our President and his Admin chose to not attend the meetings.. In fair play and in helping those here in the club who did take the time to read the article understand why he made that choice for America, I now implore you to do the same with the video I post below and view it with an open mind.. In it, our President explains why he made that decision.. I believe that anyone who has read the article now owes it to themselves to also give our President a chance to explain.. I could attempt to explain it all but truly believe it best to hear this from the horses mouth:
  5. ,,, MAMA!!!!! Way to go Moped!!
  6. As a precursor to this wildly debated opinion that I have lived my motorcycling career by,, most untrained/self taught backyard mechanic/bike builders-restorers-olxd school riders (my self included) have referred to motorcycles with clutches and trannies that share the same oil with their engines crank/valve train have always been referred to as "Unit" constructed,, bikes that have seperate clutch/trannie oil baths from that of the crank/valve train have always been referred to as "Pre-Unit".. At a price in $$$'s, Synthetic Oils have always been promoted as lubes that easily double,, often triple and even x4 the distance in miles between oil changes while maintaining viscosity in the process of doing so.. My hybrid mini-motorhome (we sleep in our Hyundia Ioniq hybrid) was actually spected from Hyundai to use Quaker State 0-20 Full Syn which I have maintained since Trooper was brand new.. Trooper (what we named our mini-motorhome cause he looks like a miniature Michigan State Trooper squad car) is a Pre-Unit, actually a dry clutch DCT with trannie lubed by engine crank lube so not a true Pre-Unit but because the clutch is not sharing lube so the point I am about to make still applies, that always amazes me with how clean/full viscosity the oil is even when doing a 7500 mile CTFW's adventure and swapping oil at end of it.. I would only ever consider swapping in more expensive Full Syn oil into a Pre-Unit bike as, IMHO, the clutch fibers and other clutch contaminents in a Unit bike demand early and regular oil swaps compared to that of a Pre-Unit as the oil soils sooner. Combine that with any form of off-roading or dirty environment operation and/or riding in extreme high tempts and oil swaps can even be needed as early as 1500 miles.. Personally, I monitor my oil condition thru the sight glass (I still think the sight glass idea was actually born out of the need to SEE the oil condition and not so much as an easier way of checking level) for color and have always swapped when dirty.. 3k miles and toss in another round of cheap Walmart or Dollar Store dino 20/50 when riding tempts above 80 degrees has kept all my Unit bikes, including my MK1's very happy thru the years.. I am also one of the few lop eared varmints out there who also generally notice the difference in shifting smoothness and engine quiteness when making the swap too.. Matter of fact,, on my Unit bikes,, another way to know it's oil swap time is when shifting becomes notchy but,, I have often been told I am a tenderfoot wannabe when it comes to biking so consider the source in this advice.. 7. INDEED!! 1st rule of thumb,, don't be shy - extend the hand cause you never ever know who you may meet!! Lots of great folks out there I tell ya and absolutely positively the best way to assure you don't miss even one of them is by being quick draw McGraw with the hand of howdy!! IMHO,, with this covid thing going on,, in these trying times it is even more important to remember what my brother VentureFar is preachin,, social distance if we must but don't let life rob you of the joys of knowing others. We still really do need each other, and now maybe more than ever.. @VentureFar,, as mentioned, you are indeed one blessed person to get to test all this stuff (and I know you know that and are thankful) but you are also a gifted person with abilities to not only know good stuff from bad stuff but also to know how to present your findings in an accurate truthful way but also fair.. I have ALWAYS appreciated this about your "style" of writing/reporting!!! What a treasure for us to have you here in our club!! THANK YOU for being you and for always being there for your readers!! Love you my brother!! Puc
  8. My son-in-laws out in California are always giving me the business about Tip and I living in Michigan.. A few years ago they came to visit over Christmas time and @Flyinfool and his little WWW man (show em jeff) managed to send enough WW that the airports all shut down and those boys and my daughters had to rent cars and drive back to Sacramento. According to my daughter, one of those varmints,, the one who I am most competitive with (should of been there the day I out shot him with his own hand gun LOL), asked her on the way back to Sac "why would anyone ever want to live in such a place" :crackup:as he had never encountered such large amounts of WW.. Present day that same chap,, and his partner in crime - my other son in law,, have been really giving me the business in comparing our Govna to that of there own.. Razing me about now knowing how they feel since our Govna outlawed having fireworks displays over the 4th in the state of Michigan due to the virus.. I made this little vid just for them to show them that while ya,, we are in similar corners in that way BUT,, unlike them,, we Michiganders in our peaceful neighborhood (listen carefully in the background and you can hear my neighbors cheering) are not as accustomed to others making our decisions for us
  9. Of course,, my mama didnt raise no WWW Fool who studied simple engineering,, I studied Business Law in College and learned there about statutes of limitations :rasberry:
  10. See ya bunch of lop eared haven't joined the club yet varmints,, this is exactly what I was referring to in my post above.. Good friends who met in the VR club depending on each other... Joe gets to read and put up with my long essays and then rescues Tip/Tweeks and I when our trajectory was off a little down in Bama at another club Rally and also,, oh,, wait a minute,, I might be getting long winded for some again,, just watch this cartoon and you will get the jist of the point Jpe and I are trying to make..
  11. My kids say I type just like I talk
  12. Your findings 100% matched those of my own @zagger,, bar none, the best high mileage, mid range dollar tire stock size, high load bearing tires I found throughout the many many tire brands I tested thru the years (like you, I love to experiment and find out for my self what is and isnt truth) has been Metzler.. Thing is though,, I discovered something thru my own testing about them that I just could not live with for long distance, hot temp riding.. Here's what happened.. Back in 14, Tip and I decided to take the long way around out to the west coast to see the kids and do the "Dalles" rally in Oregon (I spell that right @Condor? LOL).. We decided to take the long way around,, zoom down to Big Bend NP in Texas, then up thru Roswell, then over to the South and North Rims of the Canyon, than northward to Glacier and up into Saskatuan Canada then down to Sacramento before we headed to the VR Rally where we would meet up with a great big rowdy bunch of west coast VR members.. We got part way across the great state of Texas,, went to pull off to hook up with now one of my Texas Hero VR member brothers who wanted to meet us before we camped with him in Oregon,, that would be @bikerjohn.. Went to pull off in Round Rock,, noticed the blinkers were acting slow,, leaned back and told Tip that I thought Tweeks had dropped a stator.. She had... John got there,, was wide eyed about my suggestion to just point me in the direction of an Auto Parts store so I could grab a car battery to run on and head to my kids in Cali where I would repair the stator.. John said,, hold on,, as he dialed his phone... Guy answered,, it was Squidly.. Squidly said NO WAY you aint going no farther,, head to my house, I'll leave the keys for ya and you/I can fix Tweeks here.. We did,, he did (should link this story over to Mama's thread about why we love our VR family).. In the middle of repairing Tweeks, Squid noticed the brand new Metz I had spooned on and balanced out (ran smooth like glass) just before we left and mentioned something a tad disconserting.. He said - Puc,, just an FYI,, Sweet Nothing and I almost died because of a rear Metz on our Venture,, he said the tire "chunked"/tossed some of its tread/delaminated and we lost it.. He said he would NEVER run Metz again especially after Metz refused to step up to the plate and honor their warranty claim of defective stuff.. I heard him,, made a mental note,, knowing Squids extreme love for maintenance and absolute carefullness in maintaining proper air pressures and the like,, I listened.. I watched the Metz carefully over the trip,, did great and as you mention,, the thing did AMAZING about mileage.. l normally would do one tire out and one tire in when going coast to coast with not much room for xtra travel. I had read the Metz was an exceptional high mileager so that was why I went there knowing we would be well beyond our normal range per tire by the time we headed home.. We arrived at the rally in The Dalles Oregon with just under 8k on the tire.. Still looked decent.. Sargent Coffey on his bike and Tip and I on Tweeks made the trip up into Northern Washington to CTFW around Mt St Helens,, went back to camp in Oregon.. Just before we all left, Coff and I went over the bikes carefully, checking air pressures and all that.. I actually pointed out the Metz and Tweeks to Coff and told him how impressed I was with it,, still had plenty of tread on it to easily make it back to Sacramento where my return tire off Ebay was waiting for me - a "Full Bore" (which I also ended up being majorly impressed with = $52 dollar tire made it 6500k miles.. We headed for Sacramento.. When arriving in a place called Roseville in California I noticed a strange vibration.. Stopped an checked and found delamination happening just as Squid had mentioned he and Lonna had experienced.. I noticed the seperation of the tread from the carcass in multiple areas,, it did have one small chunk missing at that time.. We rode side roads down to my daughters in Wilton and below is what was left of the Metz.. Could never trust em again.. Side note - the tire was a recent build less than 6 months old, I also take monitoring air pressures seriously because of the precious cargo I carry.. I checked the air pressure on the tire before I broke it down to replace it and it was spot on.. All IMHO of course but I thought best to let others know of my experience that matches that of Squids.. Puc
  13. @sldunker,, Dunk,, sorry I missed this so late response.. Keep in mind this is another IMHO deals so consider the source .. I mistyped Horizontal when I meant vertical,, actually - trying to keep oil inside a horizontal filter while screwing it on would be a fools errand.. When ever I have a vertical mount oil filter that I am replacing I always fill the new one with fresh oil before remounting in an effort to mitigate any galling potential that may occur from momentary lube loss.. I never ever really cared for that momentary "oil light" on condition or "0" oil pressure noted on a gauge at an oil swap.. One of the reasons for this has to do with a discovery I made many many years ago while spinning wrenches at a Honda dealership. I was doing most of their small, kids bike, repairs.. I noticed an influx of cam issues coming in resulting in head/cam replacements.. Hondas later cure for what I,, and obviously others, were noticing was to place a small bolt directly above the spark plug area into the oil gallery of the head.. The instructions clearly written in the later year small bikes manuals were to, when changing oil or upon a tip over where an air pocket in the oil pump system could result to remove the small bolt and roll the engine over with the kick starter until oil began to drain from the oil hole so air in the system did not cause a momentary oil loss resulting in galling of betharing services.. Many many people did not read their owners manuals though (IMHO) as later in life, in my own dealership,, we continued to have an occasional galled bearing head/cam show up and when asked, the owners always responded with - "well thats stupid - I never heard of such a thing" in response to being asked if they knew about the oil change process.. I am also aware of and have seen pics of the new air cooled motors cam/lifter wear and,, going all the way back to the release/demo's of bikes at Sturgis I had inquired about the choice of using non-roller lifters in the new design.. I spoke with the factory guys at sturgis about this as I had noticed this in the cutaway engine they had on display.. Having been somewhat familiar with HD's discovery of protecting their engines from the issues that many SVTC/Eluder owners are facing concerning valve train issues via utilizing roller lifters where contacting the cam face, I asked the factory guys if the designers had found it unneccessary to use rollers on those surfaces and if they were providing oil system air release/priming bolts like Honda had done with those little bikes of yesteryear.. They looked at me like I was nuts (I get that a lot) and replied "with todays oils and modern machining methods, the non-roller lifters will do fine".. Seeing the result of this though makes me go right back to my experiences of the past and, if I were an owner of one of the new Ventures,, I would mitigate the probabilities of have an issue of the type I am speaking of simply by only putting my bikes engine thru a temporary/momentary oil pressure loss one time per oil change cause I know what can/will likely result from even the smallest smudging of a bearing area..
  14. Who da thunk a tiny little nail hiding on the trail thru Chicago could end up causing so much VR MD fun Vaz?
  15. Cause everyone needs more friends that you can count on, and they can count on you thru thick and thin.. Puc
  16. I am talking hot tarmac, desert roads above 100 degrees ambient temps.. You know the type well I am sure,, the kind that leave the tire on the back of the saddlebags after going cross country,, all two up and fully loaded = 6000 miles on the Shinko's
  17. rock solid vaz!!
  18. Back in my MX'n and Hare Scramblin years I would,, what I called "tune for track" and kept a detailed log of what track got what tune.. A big part of the tuning process had to do with suspention.. I found on my track bikes, and this is just my opinion, that raising the forks in the clamps would make them steer quicker - really nice in the berms,, and lower them in them clamps made the bike much more stable at speeds over 70ish,, easier to control "in flight" off jump for landings and so on.. IMHO,, doing so is doing something you will probably notice in steering gyometry,, besides the lower of the bike height.. I also would mention that one of the things I always loved about riding Chops was the stability the longer forks also added to the bike for highway play.. Absolutely positively,, again IMHO, a good chop with a soft ride back side and at least 16 over on the forks,, raked properly so the trail is inside traditional standards and BINGO - best riding long distance HIGHWAY bike possible... As far as possibilty on a MK1 1st Gen (only ones I know anything about and even them,, only a little) I believe you would find the collar manifolds that the air line hooks to to provide air for the forks will be an issue.. Just thinking out loud and going by memory,, I think pulling the tubes,, plugging the air line holes by either tigging em or brazing them shut (I would tig em for heat control), dropping in a set of progressive springs (if you havent gotten rid of Mom Yams Ink Pen springs you should do this anyway) with an inch or so of preload, and getting the fish oil out of the tubes and refilled with good fork oil of your liking and you will not need air any longer and can now maybe adjust till the cows come home.. Puc
  19. Knowing what I know now about E-4's and how difficult they are for a varmint who loves being able to spoon on and off his own tires I would DEFINITELY jump right on Ebay and grab a brand new set of Shinko's in the correct size and load rating as spec for my bike.. I have ran a plethora of tires, Dunnies - Michilins - Avon's - Perelli's - Metezlers and all the lower end stuff thru the years and bar none,, cost per mile - best handling and ease of swapping em out in the stranges of places using minimal tools - SHINKO's RULE!! THANK YOU @videoarizona for turning your old brother Puc onto Shinks!! They ROCK!!
  20. IMHO and neither way is right or wrong but I think there is a big difference between a form over function and a function over form lop eared varmint.. Maybe,, possibly being more like my friend/brother @luvmy40,, I tend to be more of a function over form varmint.. When I picked up Tweeksis from @Carbon_One, @ragtop69gs commented to Larry asking how long Larry thought it would be before I made Tweeksis "mine" by removing all the bling and putting the stickers on her that her prior sisters had earned thru the ages.. As I recall,, Larry (who knows me well) said something like 1 week.. He was close.. When I got home I proceeded to rip Tweeksis apart, removing her carb (it was iffy) and replacing with Tweeks carbs (which would be the 3rd 1st Gen that carb bank had been on) and then on to removing her gorgeous, but totally in the way Chrome rear bumper, Chrome front spoiler, Chrome front rotor covers, fancy seat (nothing in the world like a bone stock, OEM 1st Gen seat) and a bunch of other always in the way at the wrong time bling.. IMHO,, when Murph strikes with a flat tire in the middle of the Mojave desert and its 110 degrees the last thing I want to do is turn a 20 minute rear wheel removal job into a 2 hour job just because of some dorky Chrome Markland trailer hitch or a set of front rotor covers.. My HD riding neighbor thought I was nuts but,, air go,, thats the way I roll being a function over form varmint...
  21. Yep,, those rascals can be pugnacious if they haven't apart for a bit.. The pins can get rusty and stuck in the wheel and/or even the hub can corrode up a bit.. I have found a few occasions that after removing the clip sometimes a few smack with a mallet helps and maybe even some lube sprayed down the hub cant hurt.. Pasta,, here are a couple of short vids of mine that may or may not assist you.. Just knowing what it looks like once apart may help..
  22. :sign yeah that: right there with Corporal Newkirk!! How long since you last had it running Mill? Also,, maybe turn the key on with kill switch off,, now flip the kill switch on to run while standing on the left side of the bike (clutch side) while bending down near the passenger foot peg listening for the fuel pump to cycle.. It should run for a couple seconds.. Making sure the pump is working.. Now flip the switch back off and on again.. Keep doing this until you hear the pump slowly stop cycling so you know your bowls are full and try starting it..
  23. First off Pastor!! Hope you enjoy your visit here in the club!! Next off,, THANK YOU for your service in maintaining our way of life!! There is nothing free about true freedom, thank you for doing your part in paying the cost of it - thanks.. Should you decide to take the plunge for full membership in the club, please note the "Honor Badge" that is available for you that recognizes your service and lets all the members know you served,, you earned it and we clubbers who did not serve LOVE to honor those of you who did!! Concerning the scoot,, I would probably paint it to match what ever boat you served on.. I really like the thought of replacing the Yamaha emblems,, especially the tank emblems, with NAVY badging,, wayyy cool.. I think I would also do small American flags on either side of the front fender with a small navy symbol on the fender tip and,, especially being a Pastor,, I would do matching in size Christian flags on either side of the rear fender with a small cross on the rear tip.. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW brother,, you got yourself some decisions to make but,, being a U.S. Navy Man having chosen to serve our mighty God in your retirement,, we KNOW you will make the right decision on what ever you decide to paint your bike!! Welcome to the club.. Puc
  24. The Boss and his Bride back to rockin it on their motorcycle ,,, best club news I have heard in a long time!!! CONGRATS YOU TWO LOVE BIRDS:thumbsup:!!
  25. Dunk with the issue's that a few have had concerning lifter/cam failure on the new one and the thought being by some that it is due to momentary lack of lubrication,, is there any concern on your part of momentary lube loss by running an empty filter momentarily.. I have no clue whether or not the filter sits horizonally on the new one but if it did and I had one,, I think I would fill the filter prior to screwing it on just to prevent an air gap in the oil system.. Just thinking out loud brother..
