From articles the rider : 60 years old (another story says 59) "He took his helmet off and his hair was singed," adding the inside of the helmet showed obvious signs of being hit by lightning. For the FIRST time in the nearly 30 years of riding my Venture, I am glad I dont have ANY installed Audio / Communications on the bike or in the helmet! I ride my bike daily as a commuter and have been on plenty of cross country trips that I get 'stuck' riding through some nasty storms. While I do prefer to ride in the ideal conditions sometimes storms sneak up on you or sometimes there is just no place to pull off and be safe (which I am sure we all recognize and/or have seen before). Whether any of this applies to this particular case or not, I have no idea, but I know that I do not usually look outside see an approaching storm and then decide "hey, now is a great time to go for a ride"... GAWildKat Posted September 6, 2013 Share #17 Posted September 6, 2013 Update: I read on the FB6 forums that Miles was released from the hospital this morning. He has little to no hearing in his right ear and slightly more in his left. Apparently lightening hit the antenna on the bike and travelled the entire electrical system and went through the cb/intercom cable that went to his helmet. Time will tell how badly he was hurt yesterday from the strike but the ppl who have talked to him have said he doesn't remember the strike or stopping the bike. I hope he gets well soon.
