Hi All

Hope all of you are haveing a good Christmas. Have any of you used colorite paint in the rattel can? Ive heard you have to put the clear on before the color drys all the way. I would like some input on this and any pics would be great.

Thanks

Well my personal results with it were not very good. Regardless of how long I shook that can, I could not get it to spray without splattering. Now I need to mention that the can set around here for close to a year before I finally got around to using it so that may have had something to do with it. The instructions are pretty clear in regards to how long to wait before spraying the clear. I don't remember right off hand how long it was but not very long. I know that some others here have used it with better result than what I got. I will say though that the color match was very good.

Yep,,, follow the instructions or the clear will run, and if it don't run it will peel.

Temp, time and humidity are all part of the process. Contrary to thoughts, the higher the humidity the faster it dries.

I bought and used their rattle cans mostly successfully - however the finish color is not as smooth as original. Appears somewhat grainy (is that a good word?). But the color match was good.

I'm also looking to do some painting. Are there any recommended alternatives to Colorite that are less expensive? I'm looking for the rattle cans.

I don't know much about painting or this product but I understand that if you get the paint code from the colorrite site, any decent body shop can should be able to make the paint and match it with this number.

I just took a body panel for my 85 to the paint shop and had them match it. Didnt need any colour codes or anything else. Most better paint shops will put in in a rattle can if you want, but youll get a better job using a sprayer.

I find it dificult to believe that you would spray the clear on before the color coat is dry. Normally you would want to wet sand the base coat with something like 6,000 grit sand paper to remove any imperfections before spraying on the clear coat, if you want a nice final finish.

As far as the colour code goes I found it very dificult to find a paint supplier that even listed the codes. It may differ in the US or for the 2nd gens but in my case for my 89 I could find a paint supplier that could.

The trick is to use there base color , but have a professional do the clear coat over the top of there colors. This is how SteveW ( http://www.wagnercustomproducts.com/) (radiator covers) did mine. As I have the MM Color It's been 3 years and still holding strong.

I also have tried and tried with the base and clear and never did get good results.

otherwise I take my stuff to the body shop. even if it is a small part. I had Hannigan

to my plate for my gages, and my trunk light bar.

Here is a picture of the color match from color rite

My '07 was done with color rite almost 2 years ago and still looks great. I bought the paint and took it to my friends body shop and voila....looks like the factory finish. He even cleared over the pin striping. It is expensive paint but a perfect match. I would not use a rattle can on my bike though, nor would I do this job myself even with good instructions. Leave it to the professionals! Just my humble opinion though. :080402gudl_prv:
