george0fthejungle Posted March 21, 2010 #1 Posted March 21, 2010 I came across this First Gen while surfing ebay this morning. I thought I would pass the info along because frankly, if I cant buy it, I'd rather see someone who loves and appreciates Ventures pick it up before someone buys it just because the price is low for a "like New" cruiser. The pics are amazing, the listing says the bike has under 3k original miles on it. Check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290415067710&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Hope someone from here gets it! george
Squidley Posted March 21, 2010 #2 Posted March 21, 2010 Thanks for posting it up. It definitely is in good shape ande looking at the cases I might believe that it only has 3k as far as miles. A $4200 start price is too much, hate to say it, but that bike isn't worth it. ALL the fluids need to be changed, needs new tires, and who knows what else. It's a great example of a near mint MKI but setting the start price so high is probably going to damper bidding on it
george0fthejungle Posted March 21, 2010 Author #3 Posted March 21, 2010 And you notice...0 bids.....I've been sitting here wondering if its worth facing the wife's ire at the possibility of having 2 First Gens sitting in our garage and emailing the guy with a lower offer....starting at $2,500 and being willing to go up to $3k or so. Part of it to is my irrational love affair with the First Gens. Saw my first one the year they were unveiled when I was learning to ride on a little 250 cc Yamaha Exciter. Seeing one in that kind of amazing condition makes me relive the moment... Older and not always wiser!
Squidley Posted March 21, 2010 #4 Posted March 21, 2010 I could see $3500 for that bike, it is in VERY nice shape, probably the best MKI I have ever seen. It is spring and some guys think their stuff is gold when really it's not. I think he'll have it for a awhile at that price....but I have been wrong before
CMIKE Posted March 21, 2010 #5 Posted March 21, 2010 For a 27 year old bike...dang it looks good. I would like to have that old girl. What years had the 2nd gear problem? What years had the frame breaking problem? I was thinking I need something else to work on...so "Buy a 1st Gen". I think this would be the perfect one to work on. Looks like nobody has screwed it up yet so it would be a good one for me.
elmicko Posted March 21, 2010 #6 Posted March 21, 2010 It's by no means a bargain, but if you're a die hard first gen guy and pick up a bike like this, it may be smart. You'll have a first gen that'll easily give you another 10 years. Might not be a bad thought. Most of us even with really nice 1st gens are putting some cash into them every year to keep them on the road. Something to think about.
Squidley Posted March 21, 2010 #7 Posted March 21, 2010 What years had the 2nd gear problem? '83 to mid '85 What years had the frame breaking problem? '83 like that one If that bike could be had for $3500 that would be a good deal
Freebird Posted March 21, 2010 #8 Posted March 21, 2010 I agree...that is a rare find. As for the second gear issue and the frame problem though...yep...they WOULD apply to that bike. It would probably be a long time before you had to worry about it but I'm not sure that I wouldn't just address both issues right off the bat and never have to worry about them again.
DragonRider Posted March 21, 2010 #9 Posted March 21, 2010 Beautiful bike, Muffinman would love having that one, Blondie II.
Yammer Dan Posted March 21, 2010 #10 Posted March 21, 2010 :crying: I don't have a blonde:crying::crying:
Squeeze Posted March 21, 2010 #11 Posted March 21, 2010 :crying: I don't have a blonde:crying::crying: You don't need a Blonde, you already have the Warden ...
bongobobny Posted March 21, 2010 #14 Posted March 21, 2010 Absolutely gorgeous but as stated to much needs to be done to it before it's ready to go, and being an '83 we know what is going to break. $3500 would be more realistic...
Guest Swifty Posted March 21, 2010 #16 Posted March 21, 2010 A $4200 start price is too much, hate to say it, but that bike isn't worth it. It is spring n some guys think their stuff is gold when really it's not. YOU'RE NUTS...THE TEXAS SUN HAS ALREADY GOTTEN TO THAT BIG NOGGIN OF YOUR'S. That bike is easily worth $4K. easily give you another 10 years. SEE?! IF THAT is the case why would anybody (who isn't suffering sunstroke) not think that this bike IS worth the $4K? Where else can you get a NEW fully outfitted touring bike for $4,000 dollars? This is like buying a classic 60s muscle car with practically no miles at a fraction of it's original sticker price.
Mariner Fan Posted March 22, 2010 #17 Posted March 22, 2010 I was actually thinking that this bike is worth 4k as well. How many Mark 1's are out there in this condition?
Squidley Posted March 22, 2010 #18 Posted March 22, 2010 YOU'RE NUTS...THE TEXAS SUN HAS ALREADY GOTTEN TO THAT BIG NOGGIN OF YOUR'S. That bike is easily worth $4K. Excuse me David, this bike is in the USA, NOT Canada But hey, your looking for a lower mileage 1st gen, and this is a 1200cc so it's more of a Hotrod....why dont you bid on it
JerryK Posted March 22, 2010 #19 Posted March 22, 2010 When can any of us,that love Yamaha's, get a real nice bike for under $5000 .......I wouldn't be ashamed to have that in it. Just my opinion..............JerryK:Venture:
