  1. Hey ALL: I added the K&N filters with the Chrome Covers this past weekend....Just took them out of the plastic...attached the new gasket to the inside of the cover....installed the new Chrome covers and put back on the bike... First thing I noticed...It did not idle as smooth...and the "exhaust note" from the right side sounded like my old 68 Ford from way back with a big cam in it... Second when I drove it, occassonally when I let of throttle I get a mild "backfire"....If I really down shift and put pressure on the the system, I MIGHT get a LOUD BANG/POP...Took it to a service tech I know and he has thirty two years in the business....As soon as mentioned the problem in said.."To much oil in the filters...take them out and let them set a while.." He said he had noticed that other K&N Filters were coming in to him with more than normal oil in filter... ANY THOUGHTS? HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM....ANY INPUT WOULD BE WELCOMED... time for wires

Hey everyone new to the Venture's, site and really motorcycles altogether. I've had smaller bikes like shadows ext., but never anything this big and now I don't ride anything but this bike. I still have two Vtwins but this is the bike I ride. Anyway, I think I have about 18,000 miles on my 06 RSV and it seems to run ok but I had a used 99 RSV before this (my first and the start of a new love) anyway that bike seemed to have a lot more power maybe it was just me. This 06 is bone stock other than chrome. Is it time to change the wires, how often and how many miles? ALso, on my 99 I cut the D in the air box and put hot plugs, wires, K&N and cleaned the Carbs like crazy. And that bike just seemed to be a horse compaired to this one. So should I do the cut out, K&N ext. the dealer said it's not worth it? :bobby:Thanks Scott
  3. My audio system started to on it's own cycle through all functions at will especially when vibration was present. engine idle, going down hwy etc. It would work perfectly normal with bike setting and engine off. The Mechanic suggested as has been suggested here to check all connections behind the fairing behind the dash . I did that and I also applied dialectic grease as suggested on posts here. To no avail. I took it to my mechanic @ the dealership & helped him troubleshoot the problem. We noticed that even with the main control pod turned off the sound of the cycling through the speakers was still present. To make a long story short it was deduced that the main brain located behind the top fairing just behind the cassette deck tape slot was the culprit. They ordered it directly from Clarion and it came in in about 1wk. Thank God it is still under warranty because the brain is 1,000 dollars if I had to replace it. I also had the main switch replaced 2 wks ago when they trouble shot the Audio. That is another 3 to 4 hundred expense that I would of had to endure. The Yamaha warranty is awesome. My bike is an 03 as you can tell top of page Duh! No other bike in the world would be under warranty 4 yrs out would cover these problems. I also have about 62,000 miles on my bike. The K&N yamaha dealership service manager just called me ironically as I am doing this post to see if everything is functioning properly. That's service. I have bought all my new bikes from them for these reasons. K&N is the oldest yamaha dealer in the U.S. established 1957. The Head mechanic has been there for 20yrs + and can work on anything. The junior mechanic age 21 just won the top Yamaha mechanic competition for North America by Yamaha Corp. and went to Japan to compete for top mechanic worldwide. Guess where K&N got there name. Norm Mcdonald owner was partner with the k ( I can't recall his name) but they designed the K&N filters many of us use and love. Norm sold out his portion of the company some time back. K&N is in Tulsa, Ok. I apologize for going on and on but with all the bad press some dealerships receive on this sight and the nightmare reports that a positive report might be due.
  4. When I purchased my '86 VR it had a K&N filter in it. I have no clue if the carbs were adjusted after it was installed. I've complained about it before, but for those that aren't up to speed on my problems, I can't get over 95 MPH regardless of gear and THAT has to be going downhill with a good tailwind. generally my top end is around 85 mph. My gas mileage is crappy, generally around 31 miles per gallon. All other possible problems with the bike aside, do ya'll think that there's a remote possibility that replacing this K&N with a stock air filter would fix my performance problems? If so, I can pick up a filter on my way home today and see what happens.. I just want the opinion of ya'll first 'cause I'm grasping at straws at this point.
  5. :confused24:I was just wondering if those who have a dyna 3000 on their rsv have used the number 4 or 5 advance setting? I just installed it this weekend on the third setting and didn't want to take it all apart again to get to the dip switches if I didn't need to. I am currently running K&N filterrs with drilled out exhaust with 125 mains and 17.5 pilots. Or is setting 4 or 5 too much advance?
  6. Found a set of K&N air filters YA1399 on Ebay. Is 85.00 a good price for 2? Thanks for assistance. Mike
