  1. Thanks to all the guys my daughter and I had a fantastic day. She came back home ready for the next adventure. We covered 210 miles with 168 of it on the ride. I hope I got the bucket link correct. Great weather and company. We are getting ready for the next run on the 29th of March. Julia says the old guy on the big green machine has to make it if he can. Photobucket link to ride pictures ---- http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/hh269/lonestarmedic/ Lonestar Medic Pink Dragonfly (Tom-you know how she picked this handle!!!)
  2. Hi again ! Well since I bought some black hard Venture saddlebags for my Tour Classic then I need to paint them to match the color of my bike. Can any of you tell me where I can get the color code for my bike? I have a complete service manual but I can not find any information there that would guide me to a code stamped on the frame or on a plate on the bike. The color of the bike is kind of a bottle green (vintage green) and creame white in color. The paint shops here in iceland tell me they always have a problem finding the right color code for motorcycles and usually they scan the color on the bike and try to match it. I would prefer to get it right the first time and do this by the code if it is available. Here below is a picture of the bike that shows the colors. Any advice greatly apreciated.
  3. I did not get to go for my Sunday ride this week......so today it was more than I could stand.......beautiful day.....warm......sun out.....so I tucked my shoe laces inside my work boots and picked up a helmet in the garage and off I went on Crickett to go in person to see about a bid on some water meters, heck with this phone stuff.....lets go for a ride. On 378 a Green Chevy Blazer at the stop light by I-20 overshot the stop light and ended up halfway through the intersection. He backed up to the painted line......I was right behind him, another white Ford pickup right behind me......I noticed the right rear backup light still on.....the left was burned out.......so I put both feet on the ground.....and slowly backed my bike up as far as I could almost up against the pickup....this gave me about a 10 foot escape area........I saw it setting up......I knew it was going to happen!! The guy in the Blazer was still in reverse gear....he had forgotten to shift back to drive. Sure enough....when the light turned green........three things happened, I saw the rear tires on the Green Blazer start to come my way....so I instantly zipped around him on the left side into the middle median.....he hit the gas to go forward....the pickup behind me hit the gas to go forward.....yep.....busted plastic and headlights all over the place......the fellows face in the pickup.....it was classic.....I am still tickled over that. I called the cops for them......stayed.....county sheriff asked me what happened....got my name and number .....told me I could go.....I think he was giving both of them a ticket for something. You simply have to stay alert.....if I had not seen the backup light on. Could have been serious............Ride defensive guys...it can happen at any second......sure can.
  4. A little history: As most of you know, I have been trying to track down an electrical charging glitch which rears its ugly head at the worst times. I have replaced the side stand relay (not the sidestand switch), the rectifier/regulator, performed voltage drop tests and all was well. I then installed a "Heads-Up L.E.D. Voltage Monitor from Signal Dynamics Corp, which is micropressor controlled. It flashes red, green or yellow to tell you just what your charging system is doing, 50,000 times per second. This thing is so sensitive that the charging light goes from full green to yellow when any light is applied such as brakes or turn signals. It seems to have the worst draw when I turn on my driving lights, which run through a relay. Tonight we rode to a restaurant where the red light came on and stayed on for several minutes, indicating a failing charge condition. We never shut the bike down and rode home. A few minutes later the bike showed normal charging again, so the problem seems very intermittent. When I got home the bike fired up perfectly several times. it also started right up after 2 hours of sitting. Now to my question(s): Has anyone here ever installed this gauge on their bike? Im thinking that this gauge is really super sensitive and the variations that I have experienced are normal. SO, if you have installed this item on your bike, how has it responded? Was the green steady, or did it fluctuate whenever brakes or signals were used? Driving lights? etc?
  5. Well, it lasted a week- Went for about a 20 mile ride today- had to stop about 5 miles from the house and let the bike cool for an hour. The warmer the thing got, the more it slipped- Didnt matter what gear. It got so bad that just before I got off the road I nearly got run over pulling away at a green light. To refresh y'all- It's got new plates, boss, slave, rebuilt master and barnett kit. Anybody got any ideas? Or does anybody wanna buy an 89VR?- I've had about enough.
  6. I was traveling on 377 north out of Granberry Texas today 6/23/07. A nice gentlemen pulled up beside me on a 99 venture and he spoke to me. I had ear plugs in , but I acknowledge, the light turned green, we rode of and got on 20 east and kind of rode together a while. I was late for an appointment and could not stop. If you see this post, let me know. Very nice bike you were riding.
  7. Ya'll may recall my brand new 07 RSV was not holding a charge. I got to the dealer on SAT where they installed a new batt -- and I followed the sageful advice of this forum -- had a Kury voltmeter installed. Here are the results: SAT 10 FEB - Rode from dealer to home, 25 miles - Voltmeter had 1 solid green light - No Heated gear, no passing lamps - Hooked up batt tender -- went to 80% immediately - Took 2.5 hrs to go to 100% SUN 11 FEB - Rode 50 miles - With Heated jacket & gloves - No passing lamps - 1 Solid green light on voltmeter - STOPPED & FUELED - Turned on Passing lamps & ran heated gear - Voltmeter went into FLASHING green then into AMBER - Turned off heated gear - Voltmeter went back to 1 solid green - Turned on hi beam (passing lamps on too) - Voltmeter maintained 1 solid green - Turned off lamps & hi beam - Turned heated gear back on - Voltmeter stayed solid green for last 47 miles Hooled up to battery tender -- went solid green in just under 20 minutes So....darn it....it's true you cannot run jacket, gloves & passing lamps. Thnx to all who helped me. So I can add one more thing to what I miss about the Gold Wing -- power. DREBBIN
  8. You may recall my posts eralier this week regarding my battery on my RSV going dead after only a 160 mile ride, using heated gear & passing lamps. I decided to run 2 tests this weekend -- looks to me like my new RSV is not charging the batt -- TEST ONE - SAT 3 FEB (fully charged batt) TEMP = 30 degrees DISTANCE = 100 miles AVG SPEED = 50mph PASSING LAMPS = YES GERBING GEAR = YES, Jacket & gloves (@50%) Upon return I hooked up the battery tender -- it took 5.5 hrs to get to solid green light, full charge. (( Jacket = 6.4 amps, 77 watts; Gloves = 2.2 amps, 27 watts)) TEST TWO - SUN 4 FEB (fully charged batt) TEMP = 30 degrees DISTANCE = 100 miles AVG SPEED = 52 mph PASSING LAMPS = YES GERBING GEAR = None Upon return I hooked up the battery tender -- it went to flashing green in 30 seconds (80% charge) -- it took 2.5 hrs to get to solid green light, full charge. For certain, there is a bigger drain using heated gear. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY -- this system is not charging the battery. This is my 6th bike and with the exception of the evil HD from hell, none of them came back in the garage from a ride with an un-charged battery. So, I guess it's time to have the dealer put in that new battery? Your opinions appreciated, DREBBIN
  9. After I got the 07 RSV home yesterday from the dealer checking my dead batt, I immediately hooked up the new Battery Tender -- it went SOLID RED right away which of course means it is hooked up OK and has at least 3 volts. It took 5.5 hours to get to GREEN FLASHING = at least 80% charge. Then at 7 hrs it was SOLID GREEN. Whaddya think? Ok battery?
